Harold Mosley Not really, Sherlock Holmes, who's recently been released in Fate GO, is a Ruler and a damn cool one too. But every other Ruler has been a sort of holy icon.

Santa Alter is just Saber Alter dressed up. An actual Santa Claus servant could be possible, I'd rather see him as a Rider than a Ruler though. His Noble Phantasm could be a magic bag that can produce anything.

This boy did so much for only being 17 years old. After reading up on the guy and the history of persecution of Christians in Japan, I found out about the Martin Scorsese film Silence and it was and amazing film. Really makes it hard for me to take a side when both Rulers are literally good people.

Shirou Amakusa only looks young, he's really over 70 years old but I think the power in his arms kept him looking young as well as kept his body in the strong physical condition of youth. Shirou is pretty unique in that he's been a servant and a master and even though he's the main antagonist in Fate Ap, he's not really evil; Shirou had suffered a lot in life and only did what he thought was best for humanity even though that belief differed from Jeanne, the other ruler.
Miss Elly I think he meant when he was alive. in Apocrypha he's over 70 but when he died and became a heroic spirit he was 17
we're roughly the same age but while he was leading a rebellion I was studying for a math final. kinda weird when you think about it

Curiously, Kotomine Shirou's eyes and hair are similar to Emiya Shirou's eyes and Archer EMIYA's hair, but are also similar to Kirei's daughter in Hollow Ataraxia(having yellow eyes and white hair).
From what i've heard, he changed his name to "Kotomine Shiro" after the previous Holy Grail War in f/ap so he is not related to KOTOMINE Kirie and Emiya SHIRO

The Shirou of Fate/Stay Night is not trying to save all of humanity. He wanted it at first, but realized its impossible. He is not naive like this Shirou. He acceptee that he cant save all of humanity. What he didnt and will never accept is not trying to help those that suffer in front of him. Shirou Emiya wants to be a superhero. Shirou Kotomine wants to be a savior/Messiah.

Except Amakusa isn't really naive either. His wish can indeed be fulfilled and humanity can find salvation, but it comes at a cost of the species losing that freedom to do so on its own, and he understands this.
From what I understand, Emiya wanted to help every single individual he came across. Whereas Amakusa looked at the greater picture and valued humanity as a whole compared to the individual
Wow. I’m a Japanese history enthusiast so I know who is Amakusa Shiro (even wrote an essay on him), yet I never knew this guy is actually him!
I always thought that he’s just Emiya Shiro in an alternate universe because he looks like Archer, and Archer is future Emiya....

They share the same first name because they both are Shirou, however, which was a figment that the Grail created after hearing the original Shirou’s wish of not wanting to die, this Shirou that we see here was not adopted by Emiya, but rather was adopted by Kotomine which would explain why his viewpoint is so similar to Kirei Kotomine’s.
As we know the archer class from Unlimited Blade Works is Shirou from the future. Keeping this in mind, that heroic spirit is essentially Shirou Kotomine, but instead followed down a righteous path instead of taking on Kirei Kotomine’s ideology, and due to the Grail’s instability caused by Emiya, was supposedly slammed into a past and future time-line where he slowly transformed into said heroic spirit. And it makes perfect sense in terms of sheer appearance and the bliss attitude both the heroic spirit and Shirou Kotomine share.
So all in all the Grail itself really created 2 more Shirou’s, one of which became a heroic spirit, the Counter Guardian, and another which was taken in by Kirei where simultaneously, the original Shirou was taken in by Kiritsuga Emiya.
It’s a lot to read and take in, but how I see it and have seen it explained is basically like so
hearing him saying “kotomine shirou” in the anime felt like the biggest twist nonreveal since he’s not actually an alternate version emiya shirou
I just finished watching Fate/Ap and I really liked it. I thought Shirou Amakusa was a rather tragic character; he's not really evil, maybe just a bit misguided in his beliefs and way about achieving his goals. He's not a ruthless killer and is unique among the Fate characters in that he's been a servant and a master.
One of they only reasons to watch fate/apocrypha cool design and character makes you really question who's really the good and bad in this series
Few of the servants in the Fate series are actually evil. A lot of them have tragic pasts and are often misguided in their beliefs.

Oh god thanks for this I was so confused and thought it was Emiya Shirou in some shape or form for the longest time. Thinking of this story it reminds me of Gintoki or Kaneki those that are caught up in Gintama and Tokyo Ghoul:re should understand

Nope, as Jeanne says at the end of episode 12, this Shirou is named Shirou Amakusa Tokisada. Having the same name as Shirou Emiya is a total coincidence, and they designed him to look like Archer so the fans would think he was Emiya and they'd reveal the truth in a plot twist.

RrR 0111t0 the requirement for the archer class is to be skilled in projectile weapons, and because Chuck Norris is commonly shown to use guns he would qualify to be an archer

Murderous Orginization actually yeah, they both took up ideals from different people, emiya= kiritsugu and amakusa= god, although there means are different they both have the same impossible wish that can never be fulfilled
They are in different timelines, but if you want to......
they could have a relationship if you consider both timelines. Shirou was the servant in Einzbern during the 3rd war in his timeline ( in fsn, the servant be called in Einzbern's side during the 3rd war was Angra Mainyu, and the grail has been polluted by him).
Shirou helped Kotomine Risei ( the father of Kotomine Kirei) to save the family leader of Tohsaka (they are close friends). So Risei helped him to own a flesh (like what Gilgames did in fz) and adopted him as son (you know, for a legal identity in the world).
That is all. As you can see, Shirou has relationships with Tohsaka Rin's grandfather (anyway, he should be Rin's ancestor) and is the borther in law of Kirei (teacher of Rin) in his timeline.

I first heard of him after playing "Samurai Showdown." Oh, the historical version is nothing to scof at either.

He is a Master of Red, but a Ruler from the last war
Both named Shirou by coincidence and Emiya would probably want to kill Amakusa Shirou because unlike him Emiya understands that humans don't truly want peace. The only reason Servants haven't truly gone insane is because time is nonexistent in The Throne of Heroes. Imagine if you became immortal and forgot to eat one day and then forgot you wanted to eat at all after a certain amount of time then you eventually forget what eating felt like and stop caring about eating altogether. over the passage of time you forget what certain pleasures felt like and life becomes boring. Life becomes meaningless and you lose interest in moving altogether. Shirou Amakusa is intentionally naïve to what is the right thing to do out of blind faith in humanity and Emiya/Archer would kill him for it. Heaven's Feel is the wrong way to save humanity.
In the anime I thought his last name was emiya. How did he get the name kotomine? Are they two different shiro?
shirou isn't the shirou from fate stay nigth, but a guy (who also existed in reall ife) called amakusa shirou. He survived a grail war, and hid his identity by changing his name to "kotomine shirou".

I know it's old but I just had to post a comment about just how badass of a ruler class servant, from the fate/ series, Saint Celestine of the God Emporer of mankind (wh40k) would make.

Ohhh!!!!! Now I see why Amakusa Shirou couldn't use Projection Magic or great magic UBW. There was no way SIEG would've won if he was able to use it.
Amakusa can use projection, his creations are just not gonna be as good as Emiya's. Emiya's projection magecraft and his reality marble Unlimited Blade Works come from his origin, which is Sword.
