I found my amstaff in the middle of the road at 4am after closing up my bar. I walked the rest of the way home, and he followed me the whole way. Did my due diligence to try to return him to his owner, but no one came looking for him. He is the most wonderful dog ever, and if one day I get another one, it will absolutely be an amstaff. They're incredible dogs, and I can never see myself without one now.

Amazing how good this dog is both physically and mentally, house trained and now a loyal family member for last 8 weeks...People guess him now at 4-5 years of age and I must say he's looking fitter and stronger since we got him with daily walking and better diet. My AmStaff is so calm that he’s referred to as “Buddha” by my neighbors. I live in NYC so we encounter many dogs on our walks and in the dog park. When an aggressive dog growls or lunges at my boy he always remains calm - stands his ground, isn’t submissive, but doesn’t lose his cool and never returns the aggression.
It’s true what the guy says about the strong bond - I don’t know about staffies but AmStaffs are not independent dogs. They are velcro dogs who need to be with their person (or preferably on their person) to be happy, and they live to please.

@@jazzypoo7960 If that’s her in your thumbnail she’s a beauty! Was she ok? If it’s a stray it might not have had its shots - I hope your girl doesn’t have any serious consequences.
I was walking my boy the other day when a Westie (West Highland Terrier) came from nowhere, viciously trying to bite his face. He did his signature move: quickly turning and slamming his butt into the Westie. The owner came running over from a few feet away and grabbed her dog - she was attending to her baby in its carriage and didn’t realize her Westie was untethered. She was so grateful that my dog didn’t attack back - she said she’d understand if it did because her Westie was asking for it. I’m also very grateful that my boy is so calm - he’s been attacked by big dogs too and although he does defend himself as best he can, he never tries to bite and the situation is always over when the owner gets the other dog under control, so there’s never a situation where two angry dogs are going at each other. I thank and praise him for that whenever it happens (3 times in 5 years)
Long life and good health to you and your lovely girl!

Here is the interesting history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier...
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier originates from the old Bull and terrier dogs of the UK, which were a cross between the Old English Bulldog and various terriers such as the White Terrier and Black and Tan Terrier. There were also Irish versions of this dog that used Irish Terrier admixture. The English Bull and Terrier dogs did not have one standard, but had three main types: the Cradley Heath type (more bulldog characteristics than Terrier characteristics, shortest type), the Walsall type (similar to the Cradley Heath type, but with some Whippet bred in for speed and agility which made it the tallest type) and the Darlaston type (more Terrier characteristics than bulldog characteristics, medium height). Another type of Bull and terrier would also be created called the Hinks Bull and Terrier.
The Cradley Heath type would later be renamed the “Staffordshire Bull Terrier” and the Hinks Bull and Terrier would be renamed the “Bull Terrier” in which the word “and” was left out. The Walsall Bull and Terrier would make its way to the USA and there, it was developed into the American Pitbull Terrier by adding some Irish Bull and Terrier into the bloodline and the American Staffordshire Terrier was bred from this line. The rest is history.
Here is a family tree of SBT, AST and APBT: ibb.co/P1hTbZH

I remember you've told that Staffies are a good first-time dog especially for those who want a guard dog, so does that apply to Amstaffs as well? I never had a dog before but I've been involved with dogs and learning about them all my life, have a very good understanding and knowledge of obedience training, setting boundaries, rules and limitations and I do consider myself capable of being a calm and consistent leader, so would it be more challenging to go for the slightly larger version of the Staffy?

    • @lennycook206
      @lennycook206 3 роки тому +4

Staffies are famous at being a lousy guard dog. They will protect the person but wouldn't care about protecting property. They love people too much. Many many better breeds to train and have as a personal protection dog.

@@Cyhussle I hope that I can answer the question... Amstaffs are an absolute pleasure to have in your life & would make an awesome 1st time dog & best friend for life!! They all have individual personalities but are very loving, intelligent and eager to please. It would definitely depend on the living space you have & time for walks/runs etc, The Amstaff will require more space & exercise. They make fantastic guard dogs (NOT ATTACK DOGS) and just personally the Amstaffs "look" more intimidating to a potential foe... they will let you know if somebody's outside, and you can tell by their bark if it's a friend or a stranger (I love that!!) The Amstaff will definitely not be more of a challenge to own... just more to love💖

@@Cyhussle hi, I'm so glad that you found my info helpful & I appreciate that you have replied to me. This is only my opinion...but both male and female Amstaffs are an absolute pleasure to have in your life!! Personally (in my experience) I think males are more chilled or even keeled than females & easier to predict their mood... early on social interaction with other dogs, children & animals is a MUST!! In saying that my darling best friend Obie 17years old was femail, she was so lovely loyal and an absolute pleasure to have in my life (but she was VERY dog aggressive) so it limited walks on the beach etc.! Good luck with your search for your best friend 🤗💗🐶🇦🇺

Love your videos, they pretty educative. I am considering moving to the UK from somewhere in Africa and I have 3 dogs which I don't presume to be a mix of the Amstaf and the Staff, so the question is which one of these two breeds is illegal in the UK. How will my dogs be judged, either as legal or illegal, if I want to bring them to the UK. Thanks.

Both links I click do not work. I believe I have an AmStaff. She is 10 yrs old, 70 +\- #, loyal, extremely smart. I've given her commands she'd never done before - she'll look around, sniff a couple of times and do what I said. She can even spell ! Please send working links for training and if you have any - behavior modifications. She prefers to have access to the whole house. When young she was crated and was ok with it but later showed me she no longer needed or wanted that. If she cannot access a space in the house, she had torn the door frame or part of the near by wall to get to the space. She is highly tuned to everyone's emotional statis and she is a Registered ESA - for me. Thank for this channel. I just discovered it. I will be back. OH YA - and she is highly prone to Mass Cells Tumors. She's have 1 surgery where 3 were removed - 1 was Active, 1 burned off and is awaiting the removal of another Active. There are two other bumps I recently found which DOC has not seen yet. Her mom reportedly had several - with non active. How common is this and is there an solution ? Thank you again. !

Sure on her bloodline. When I inquired about my app. The volunteer told me that the puppies’s sister was adopted and she was 100% Staffordshire Bull Terrier. If and when I do her from the volunteer or foster mom i probs need to find out if she American or British. The fee is!$550. for dogs under

In the uk staffys don’t have those negative views still, there a regular occurrence and both drs, ambulance staff and police are very fond of them and love to play with them. I’ve only ever had an encounter with 3 aggressive staffys and they were from an owner well known for having aggressive dogs off the lead. For the most part they are loyal to a fault however, they can become aggressive if mistreated or bitten too many times, they are an extremely energetic breed and need a lot of exercise, mental and physical stimulation, there great at dog show tasks they can be dog aggressive again depending on there background. The maximum height for an English staffy should be 17” if it’s higher it will be deemed as a fault under the kennel club. They are small but muscular. Don’t just get one because there cute. There a lot of hard work, please be prepared.

An Amstaff is NOT called a Staffy.... Staffy = Staffordshire Bull Terrier AND Amstaff is American Staffordshire Terrier. And there has never been "Bull" in the name for Amstaff. This is VERY importend to get right.!! because in many countries, the Amstaff is banned.! So we who owns staffy's dont want to be misunderstood about our breed or even be reported to the police, just because people cant tell the difference in the name. Here in Denmark, 1000's of innocent dogs have been put down because of the stricts laws, misunderstadings and bad information.

I love and raise American Akitas and find them easy to train, chill, even to excellent temperament. They almost ended up with poor reputation like the pit bull terrier because of clueless humans in their pack. Our neighbor's blue Amstaff was a sweet, intelligent handsome boy who fell in love with one of our female Akitas. I've never met a Pitbull, Staffy, Mastiff or Akita who is not as sweet as sugar in nature. It's their humans that force them to become aggressive or fearful, which does not come naturally to them.
