He and Rizin came out great in this. Rizin got a lot of attention to their brand and Tenshin became a star... if he will continue to shine is to be seen but atleast for now, people know his name and there will be probably 1000 times the attention on his fight.
Floyd came out looking like bitch though.. which sucks, because I am a big fan of him as a boxer.

That is actually the kind of foolish thing that Tony Ferguson would say. I can totally hear him telling a reporter after a weigh-in, 'Yeah, I"m just going back up to the hotel room to lay in the tub and cut a couple of more pounds. It shows my opponent my mentality and prove that I am willing to die'. He would totally say something stupid like that in an effort to make himself seem tough. The guy can definitely fight...but he isn't playing w/ a full deck.

A lot of comments reflect complete ignorance concerning basic finance. Just because Floyd (or anyone else) has "billions" in real estate or "billions" in assets doesn't mean they are financially secure or ok. Real estate costs a LOT of $$ to maintain between maintenance, insurance, taxes and year round staff. It does not generate a nickel of income unless u rent it out or sell it. Floyd's exotic car collection and vast collection of high end jewelry similarly cost big $$ to maintain and insure while providing zero income. It's called negative cash flow. A lot of u people forget that after a lifetime of fighting, Floyd needed $$ from the McGregor fight to settle an 8 figure tax bill with the IRS. Chael is 100% correct. Floyd NEEDS the $$ to maintain his lifestyle. He cannot replicate $100 million paychecks without fighting period. Floyd's problem is that he has grown accustomed to the lifestyle of a billionaire (similar to Johnny Depp) without the continuing cash flow to sustain it. Floyd is going to have 3 choices (1) keep fighting as long as he can to keep the gravy train rolling, (2) reduce his lifestyle and sell 80% of his shit (which his ego won't allow) or (3) go into debt. It seems there is a chance Floyd could go bankrupt 5-10 years after fighting unless he changes course. He should. His "money" Mayweather image is shallow, narcissistic and played out. How many fucking cars, boats, houses, jewelry is enough to fill whatever void is there?

What Chael doesn’t get is this:
CHAEL IS PRINCIPLED AND FLOYD IS NOT.
A PRINCIPLED person does what they say. An unprincipled person DOES NOT do what they say.
Floyd may be one of the greatest to ever do it, but no one ever said he was a man of his word. In fact, history has shown that he’s of poor character and has not stuck by his word many times before. I won’t bring up Floyd’s penchant for hitting women (couldn’t resist =P).
Floyd has avoided many fighters before and this is a lot of the same. Floyd always backs out when Floyd knows he might lose.
I do not respect his 50-0 because he should be 49-0 (the Conor fight shouldn’t have counted against his record, it should have been an exhibition fight). Floyd cherry picked fighters with analytics and built a perfect record by fighting fighters who he and his team knew he could beat, not the best fighters of the time. It’s still amazing Floyd has a perfect record, not taking away from that, but it’s a spurious perfect record and the fact that Conor went 10 rounds with him only proves that.
Don’t expect these idiots to have your good character Chael, they don’t!

The main reasons that Floyd makes his fights happen quickly is firstly to give his opposition less time to prepare and also I believe that he uses USADA and they only test a fighter once a fight has been announced, so he could if he wanted, train using PED's and get all the benefits but be clean by the time he is being tested.
Also the idea of giving floyd any credit for the Mcgregor fight is laughable. The only reason that the fight went so long is because he said that he would give his fans a great fight, and the only way he would do that is if the skill level of his opposition was not high enough to put him in any danger. McGregor is a great MMA fighter but that boxing match was a circus and nothing else.

The Nevada State athletic commission, 7ish months after sanctioning the 49 - 0 Mayweather vs the 0 - 0 McGregor fight, wouldn't sanction GGG vs the then 28 - 0 Jaime Munguia, saying he wouldn't have the experience to fight Golovkin.

Chael - I have to disagree with you on the opinion that boxers had of the May/Mac fight. I don't know any boxer that came away respecting Conor more as any boxing fan saw 1.) Floyd carrying him for a few rounds, 2.) Floyd take the best shot that Conor can deliver, 3.) Floyd showing so little respect for Conor's punching power that he walked him down unlike any other legitimate opponent Floyd has faced, 4.) Floyd get his first finish is year - which is why he was known as pillow hands.
For the UFC, Dana got a bit of exposure, but he severely, severely damaged his product. As you correctly pointed out, Floyd inflates his PPV buys and fight winnings - but, I think Dana probably outdoes him in this regard. You were there, I am sure you know. Rampage Jackson has already lifted the veil so no need for you to comment and damage the business further. Yes, fighters are making much more than they did during the Dan Severn years, but they are not making anywhere near the dollars that Conor is claiming.
As a result of the May/Mac match, the UFC is now at modern age low in terms of interest. Woodley drew 150K? DC/Stipe 400K? My money on Khabib/Conor is that it did 1.6M even counting discounted purchases outside the US. What does Dana have to say the day? - JBJ? I don't think Dana realized how little interest there is in JBJ at this point. As some perspective - the first packed - and I mean packed - bar I went to for a UFC event was Sonnen vs. Silva. I have seen other packed houses since - Lesnar fights, Conor vs. Diaz (especially the rematch), and this latest Khabib/Conor fight. But, even with Khabib/Conor, I saw much less interest than I saw during Conor vs. Nate. Conor's allure is gone. He is like Goldberg after the 154-0 (or whatever the real numbers are) streak ended. His allure was being unbeatable - now he is trying to draw the crowd as a heel.
The more time goes on, the more you see that the WWE has a better product/business model. As another analogy - I would say to look at the old Phil Hendrie radio show. He realized the product was better when he did the voice for both himself and the person he was interviewing so he could drive the conversation where he wanted - which is what his audience wanted. With UFC - Dana can't control outcomes so marketing is a waste because it all the value goes away with a loss. Vince can control this - which is why he is much better at producing stars. He took a guy like Triple H - who had almost zero personality or appeal - and made him into a star.
To finish this post - I will clue you in on what killed the UFC (it has peaked and is declining now). The most effective fighters are wrestlers that learn enough BJJ to stay out of BJJ traps. This is exactly what Severn did and he was legit unbeatable for years. Now, the UFC was able to limit this recipe for success for a number of years because they know the audience will always prefer a striker over a grappler. In the PED age, if a guy was juiced enough he could use brute strength to overcome superior wrestling techique. Also, in an age where money was very little, Dana could incentivize wrestlers to strike to earn bonuses. Now that the money is a bit better and the fighters realize that there is more money in an undefeated streak than in a $50K fight bonus, the smart move is to grapple. Your chances of getting KO'ed as a wrestler is much, much lower once you take the fight off your feet or fight at a close distance (head kicks go away and not enough space to fully load up punches).
So, you see this with Stipe/Nganou, Khabib/Conor, GSP/Bisping, Colby/Everyone, and with Ben Askren. It is the much safer bet to get the W so you can't blame the fighters and Dana does not have enough cash to give them the incentive to change this style. Whether the audience likes this style remains to be seen - but, all signs point to no. My prediction - as long as USADA is around, the champions in the sport will be wrestlers that learn just enough BJJ. Unfortunately for the UFC, this type of event is not worth $4B.

James Kershek you just sounds like a big wwe fan, overlooked a lot of stuff that goes on in ufc and fighting in general. You can’t compare wwe promotion to boxing/MMA because wwe isn’t fighting, it’s a show. Wrestling is a dominant aspect of the sport but to say you just need a little bjj and you can dominate is not true. P4P best in DJ uses all aspect of the fight game, Holloway and Ortega are the top 2 in their division and neither are wrestlers, jacare just beat Weidman who’s a top level wrestler, Whittaker has just beaten Yoel Romero twice, Romero is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Creating stars and big events is not just about how entertaining the fight is it’s about how it’s sold as we’ve seen in floyd for years, UFC and MMA is going to keep growing it’s just looking for more big stars, I think they need a shake up of the weights and how they build fighters but that will come over time, the sport is only 20 years. To write it off like you did to me seems pretty stupid and as I said makes me think your a big wwe fan who’s shown his bias. I’ve not looked at the stats and figures but just based on what you see and hear id say wwe is on the decline as no one I know watches it or takes an interest whereas 10 years ago they did

@@MFDOOM4635 "You can’t compare wwe promotion to boxing/MMA because wwe isn’t fighting, it’s a show."
You can't in terms of competition but you can in terms of business model, and the WWE is superior as seen recently.
"Wrestling is a dominant aspect of the sport but to say you just need a little bjj and you can dominate is not true"
My bet is that we will see a lot more future champions follow the blueprint of Woodley, DC, Khabib, Colby, etc. and dominant by being a better wrestler. When the UFC first started, BJJ was a giant advantage - heck, half the reason for the UFC is so the Gracies could cash in on teaching it. However, as time progresses, superior BJJ skills simply don't mean as much as it only dominates under a very restrictive rule set. Now that fighters have figured that out, its usefulness is greatly diminished. Even Ortega - a great BJJ guy - basically was a nothing until he discovered striking. What made BJJ great is that it can overcome inherent strength advantages (in the PED age) by using superior technique. However, it just is not as great in this regard under the UFC rule set compared to wrestling. If you want to make it completely useless, bring back head kicks and stomps to downed opponents.
"I think they need a shake up of the weights and how they build fighters but that will come over time, the sport is only 20 years."
What you are not getting is that we are winding down the careers of some guys that will likely go down as the GOAT or at least top 10 that ever fought - DC, GSP, Khabib, and the drawing power is GOING DOWN. When your stars can't sell more than 400k PPV's without some sort of special stipulation involved, you have a real problem.
"I’ve not looked at the stats and figures but just based on what you see and hear id say wwe is on the decline as no one I know watches it or takes an interest whereas 10 years ago they did"
WWE has a market cap of just under $6B, has long term TV contracts, has established tour dates, has control over its stars, and have invested to own it own PPV (via OTT WWE network). For me, these are the signs of a successful business. Dana did not plan beyond trying to inflate the value of his business pre-sale to WME. Now the chickens are coming home to roust.

    • @MFDOOM4635
      @MFDOOM4635 5 років тому

James Kershek I’m not really interested in debating wwe vs MMA but again you can’t compare them in any way, MMA/UFC is a sport, wwe is a tv sitcom. You talk about ageing stars in ufc but one quick google search told me wwe highest PPV was an event that headlined the rock and John cena which didn’t even get 2 millions buys and if they’re not 2 ageing stars then I don’t know what is. Not only are they ageing stars they are wwe biggest ever stars and if they ever get surpassed I’d be very surprised.
WWE’s business model essentially follows that set out by the mob when it controlled boxing which was to determine the winner long before fight night and there only so long people enjoy seeing that especially when it’s out in the open that it’s going on. The wwe has a core fan base which doesn’t have much room to grow as it’s undebatable that majority of adults won’t by into an event where they can work out the winner prior to the event, that’s why wwe is marketed toward children.
The wrestlers you bring up are wrestler who are not only elite wrestlers but have also developed elite striking, for every top wrestler who’s been ufc champion there is a lot more who failed to compete. You bring up Ortega, saying he was nothing until he developed striking which again proves my point that you need to be an all rounder in the sport to get to the top. You’re talking about it as if it’s still one discipline vs the other when it’s not. As in boxing the longer the sport grows we’ll see style also grow with it.
The reality is as MMA continues to grow which it undoubtedly is, there will be more participation in MMA, the more the participation of the sports goes up the higher the standard of the fighters will be and more eyes will thus be brought to the sport.
All businesses and sports have peaks and troughs, maybe ufc is going through a tough period as it gets use to new ownership and changing of the guard in the top fighters but if I’m not mistaken they’ve just had their highest ever PPV event, one in which a new star in khabib has been made.
As I said I’m pretty sure your a big wwe fan which is fine but there’s no reason to compare the 2 as they’re completely different. I think a big problem between ufc, wwe and boxing is that they’re always at war with each other as if it’s a competition when it’s not.

It’s amazing how people want Floyd to have money troubles so bad when in reality the truth is far more simple,Rizin didn’t have the Money to pay Floyd for a real fight or an exhibition for that matter so all of this nonsense about him being broke is laughable. Shaquille O’Neal does car insurance commercials does that mean he’s role too? Use your head capitalist make money by any means

    • @rlsjunior797
      @rlsjunior797 5 років тому +2

Who knows, he may not have money troubles. What we do know is athletes have a history of going broke. We also know Floyd has some crazy spending habits, so don’t act like that’s not even a possibility. That’s just as short sighted as saying he definitely is having money problems. We don’t know, this is all pure speculation.

What crazy spending habits like a 4.6 million dollar car let’s see take 4.6 million from 200 million and we have roughly 196 million dollars left oh he made that like twice already so cut it out with him being broke he made 30 million just to walk to the ring against maidana he’s doing just fine

Not what he said. Floyd said that he didn't agree to fight under the CONDITIONS that they switched it to. It was supposed to be a closed fight ... 3 - nine minute rounds in an agreed upon fighting style. This was supposed to take place in a small setting for some very rich people. When they had the press conference, they promoted it as a huge worldwide phenomenon. Floyd played along in the press conference, then reprimanded them afterward, ultimately calling it off... citing that this is not what they agreed to.

Floyd has two more fights at a 100 million pay day. 2 more fights with Canelo Alvarez. Chances are their second fight will be a draw or a close loss for either fighter and then the 3rd fight. Floyd knows this. That’s why he threw shade at Canelo after he got that deal. But to be honest he will not fight Alvarez unless he has absolutely no choice. I think Floyd still has choices.

I agree with most of what you’re saying, especially about his money problems, but the truth about the fight with Connor is that Floyd carried him for 10 rounds. There were a lot of people around Floyd that made proposition bets for Connor to be stopped in the 10th. I’m a boxing trainer with 24 years of pro and amateur experience, and my opinion of the fight was that Mayweather walked him down, and buttered him up for an easy KO using his superior stamina. The only meaningful punch Connor landed was an uppercut that surprised Mayweather in the 3rd, but other than that it looked like a high level pro sparring with an amateur until he ended it.
