    I see a lot of folks throw shade at this and the August 1961 omnibus and it bums me out. This is an extremely handsome book that is a clear labor of love for the team who produce it. This and August 1961 are both unique and fun snapshots of Marvel’s history at a time when they were literally paving new ground with storytelling and characters that will outlive us all.
    That cover by Javier Rodriguez is stunning. I hope they continue to publish collections like this for years to come. Make Mine Marvel.

    I don't care for that cover at all but this Omnibus is so intriguing. So historic. I wonder where Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos fit in to all this. I guess they drop in later.

    For me, the Ditko cover is the one that I hold dear to my heart. That was the cover used for the portuguese reprint of AF 15 back in the early '80s.

      @@robd1329 For me it's kinda difficult to enjoy the commies stuff. You know, Thor, Ant-Man and Hulk fight commies more times than they save the planet from aliens. At least in 1962

      @George Rockwell what funny is...as a kid i hated Jack Kirbys funny art or golden/silver age comics. Now that im older...i realize how impressive the hand drawn is and a huge Kirby..Ditko fan! I still collect modern comics but the computer drawn pages dont do it for me for some odd reason. Same with early Todd McFarlane Spawn..page after page its amazing to look at but Spawn artwork today actually sucks!

      I can't imagine it is a super seller, personally I think it is a great idea and for any one that loves early Marvel, I would have thought this would be a winner. It is fascinating to see many issues such as Kathy etc that I would probably never buy (though I have one issue of Kathy and a number of the Patsy / Rawhides) but it is great to see them with this quality of reproduction as well as all the bonus items

      @@robd1329 I believe it was! If you love Marvel history, it's a great coffee table book. The stories are varied because none of them (except for "Fantastic Four #1") were superhero related. They were sci-fi, slice of life, western, monster B-movie styles of writing. It was pretty fun to see how this one book shook everything up.

    Nice to occasionally have an anthology style reprint book and this one captures a significant time in Marvel’s history. It’s a shame that paper shortages seem to be resulting in lower quality books, hope we can return to thicker paper stock eventually.

    Circus Of Crime ... bit before the Ringmaster then (with Kid Colt) and then the Circus of Crime with the Hulk ! Though we did get a hypnotist in the Rawhide Kid. Wonderful overview of this book, just bought it. They should have Ant-Man and Wasp or Iron Man etc costumes designed by the readers each and every month as well !! I would prefer a book for the first month I started collecting Marvel more than one on my birth date, March 1973 with FF 132, Cap America 159, Hulk 161, Sub Mariner 59 ... though as I have most of them, be still nice to get them all in an omni ! Would still love a Don Heck omni (I know he is not everyone's favourite)

    Huge Spider-Man fan so the Ditko variant appeals to me although the standard has grown on me. The inclusion of the other stories appeal to me for the completion factor. A Rawhide Kid omni would be cool. A January 1980 omnibus would be very cool as well since Star Wars could be included (and depending reprint licenses possibly Conan too...) among the Marvel Super-Heroes.

    This type of silver age anthology style book is not really my thing and I already own many of the superhero issues in the collection (including content reprinted in the Masters of Suspense omnis and Kirby's Love Romances issue!) so there would be a lot to double dip, but... I DO appreciate all the work that was put into restoring these for print and the willingness of Marvel to print omnibus content outside of the "same old, same old."
    That said, I always through Marvel would troll everyone and release an Epic Ant-Man/Giant-Man Vol. 3 before number 2. 😈
    Also... too many rock monsters...?!?!? I say, NOT ENOUGH! 😮

    A December 1993 is a terrible idea, wouldn't even be able to reprint all the comics bc there were Ren & Stimpy, two Barbies and some Conan. I have read a few since they made their way to me in collected editions, reprints and singles (crazy coincidance that Excalibur got to me). But who the hell wants to read Lawdog, Meter Man, Pinhead, Gene Dogs, Ecktoid and Biker Mice from Mars?? No one is holding their breath for those.

  • @colonelweird
    @colonelweird 2 роки тому

    Do you know what the restoration philosophy is for these old comics? The image quality is infinitely superior to anything in the original comics, so I assume they are not just new scans of old pages, but are fully recolored digitally. Yet they still keep the limited color palette, mostly primary colors, and flat style. I can't help wondering whether some subtle introduction of modern techniques and more muted shades would make the panels more interesting.
