    One of the cool things about a water level
    Is it doesn't have to have a line of sight ..
    It will work around buildings, corners...any where your hose will reach...

    I'm not sure how well those bolts seal your tube. When you are actually taking measurements you want both ends open to the air, otherwise pressure or vacuum in the ends of the tube can throw off your measurements. It is good to keep the ends sealed when moving the ends around to avoid losing water.

    • @ourselfreliantlife
      @ourselfreliantlife  4 роки тому

      No, they don't seal it really. They do allow air flow and they do help from keeping the water from spraying out when I move them.😆

      @@ourselfreliantlife well, you could just make your "empty" ends run longer, that'll help contain splashes. You'd want to avoid turning your yard sticks upside down, with or without bolts.

    In a quick pinch...no need to plug hose..just fill a garden hose with water support both ends (rebar) ....elevate one end to a certain level (see the water) and measure to the ground......go to the other end and do the same. Subtract difference.
    I did this as a surveyor back in the 70's.... :)

    Water levels are a great tool! One suggestion is to mount/screw the yardstick midway up on a 2x4 so the readings can be done standing up at your eye level. This would also require the stationary one to be mounted the same way or else your water will flow out of the tube.

As one side goes down, doesn't the water level go up on the other side?
