honestly same, just that age gap, and the cheating, and her being his sister in law, and them just having SUCH. a sibling like relationship in a couple ways. it was weird. should have just given five his own love interest, it would have been reasonable for him to meet someone at the CIA maybe, or just around.
But then it would have been a 58 yo man with a 20 yo girl 🤢
They could have been besties and bonded over their love for diego. This weird love triangle was such a riverdale bad level of writing move. Not EVERYTHING has to come from romantic betrayal im so mad bc there was so much potential. Like Five sometimes acts like a dad to his siblings, this was the most sibling coded relationship he actually had i can’t believe they robbed us from that
Yeah, but when people are in this type of situations. Loneliness gets the best of them. They were each other’s means for survival. They were each other’s only support emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually for 7 years. They didn’t know if they would ever come back to their timeline. They bonded in a special way, I mean they were being hunted, stabbed at, shot at in other timelines they were just happy to make it out of alive with fight/flight environment like this it breeds romantic entanglements. A constant environment of fight or flight gives you a heightened amount of dopamine and cortisol in your body. Top that all with the loneliness, being attractive and craving of physical touch will lead anyone not blood related to have a physical response to the other person’s touch. Not including the emotional, mental and spiritual bond they formed. It would be more unbelievable if they didn’t have a romantic feelings for one another at the end of it all. Riverdale is different they had other people around to date. Lila and Five were stranded for almost a decade by themselves with no hope of ever seeing another person that wasn’t from a crazy timeline that was trying to kill them.
@@britt3984 sure but afterwards Five as a character would have never chosen to hide the way back. 1) because he loves his family and would never leave them just to die. 2) Lila has kids. He knows how important family is. He would have never had depraved the kids of their mom. 3) he KNOWS how it feels to desperately look for a way back. He would have never hid it from anyone or Lila. 4) having him resent his brother over a girl is CRAZY. The fact that it happened suck but it wasn’t that unrealistic. The aftermath was and it killed the characters.

@@KIZZS_210 like i said the situation happening is not even all that unrealistic bc like 1) in those 45 years he did seek companionship. He just didnt have anyone. Thats the whole point of dolores. 2) as grown as he is mentally hormone wise he’s still young. Ultimately though 1) he would have never gotten on the train with lila alone with no backup plan when he didn’t know what the place was in the first place. And 2) the main issue more than that icky relationship happening, is that in the finale that was given more priority over HIS FAMILY. When his character has ALWAYS put his family first. Especially hiding it from her also was against their own narrative because if he loved her why would he hide the way back from her when he KNOWS how painful it feels better than anyone??? Just bad writing and it contradicts itself. Him and Diego not having a scene to makeup or talk about it before they died was the worst part too when the show has always been about the siblings’ bonds over any romance.
@valentinafangirling Right?! Diego and Five had a great relationship in season 2. And I hate they never made up before being wiped from existence. Lila and Five made a great dynamic duo, on a platonic base only. It is weird that Lila admits she is exhausted by this stay at home/wife life but will go and be the cottage bunny with Five in the greenhouse---that doesn't make sense to me. And Five has always been about family...but I felt like this last season he was just kinda done with everything, which I can understand why he didn't tell her about the way back (as selfish as that decision was) and why he blinked out after Diego found out about him and Lila.

Because they grew up and had different lives. Lila became a depressed resentful repressed housewife taking care of 3 children and a manchild, and Five became a mellowed out adult.
@@DarkEclipse23 i understand that. but it wasn't necessary to turn their dynamic into a romance while simultaneously ruining both their relationships with diego. literally, one of the reasons five initially disliked lila was because he thought she was cheating on diego and diego even expressed this exact concern to both of them and they still did it anyways. and i know he's actually an old man, but five was physically 13 when he and lila met, which is my biggest gripe. there is no way to make that not look like grooming. five also starts acting like an actual 26 year old guy, to the point that it was the first time in the series i genuinely forgot he's supposed to be an old man trapped in a young man's body and i just saw a jealous dude in his 20's.

He hadn’t technically been with anyone until this point (sorry for the Dolores erasure!) and didn’t have such a deep background when it came to things of this nature…even though judging by comments made in the show, Five and Delores did get occasionally freaky!

@AKDUGI I think it's the fact that ritu knew and worked with Aiden while he was a minor that rubs people the wrong way. It feels like grooming. And I admit to finding episode 6 cute and loving their acting, but that doesn't change the fact that it was pretty unethical to put the actors in that situation.

Their relationship didn’t turn romantic until the 6th year making Five physically 26 years old and mentally he was 71. So technically he was way too old for Lila. He wanted to stay in their quiet paradise. He was ready to settle down and retire from saving the world. Lila had other responsibilities she left behind. Personally, I loved their romance and thought their relationship was more compatible and healthy than Lila’s relationship with Diego.

They work amazing as friends that constantly bicker, even they work out things in the end. It's fun to watch them like that. To make them a couple was an unnecessary and real awful move. Not only they don't work as a couple, she already has something going on with Diego. That twist had no point, it just made everyone that loves the series hate the last season.
Watching them in s4 is giving sweet Home alabama even though they are not siblings.

@@tokki6085 they mean grooming probably because lila met five when he looked and sounded 13, even calling him a kid. behind the scenes ritu was in her 30’s while aidan was like 15 i think and recently steve, the showrunner, revealed he waited until aidan was 18 to make the fivelila thing happen. so it’s just icky that the actors said no but the writers went ahead because aidan was legal and ritu met him when he was a kid to then be making out with said kid when he’s older.
Aiden is 20. Let’s stop infantilizing him. I’m sure he WANTS to play more mature storylines. His character was 25 and 26 physically when the characters became romantic and he is canonically has the mental capacity of a 71 year old. No grooming took place. Sure Aiden was a minor when he started the series however he isn’t anymore. It is normal for people to have romantic adult relationships when they are in their 20s so why not depict it.

I grew up with Aiden since Nickelodeon and it just looked wrong. There’s a reason that episode and the finale are the lowest rated.
@@britt3984 in the context of this particular show it just doesn’t work with those specific characters (probably not with any characters at all) and his character had always been portrayed as someone who probably shouldn’t get an onscreen love interest, and the writers purposely waited since he was a minor until he became an adult just to make him kiss someone 15 years older than him
I love how British she is, I’ve watched many British comedies and they always have the bags of stuff to make comedy work which are often missing from the ones in the US like the realism and grit of the world, and her character just does it perfectly, it was so refreshing to see because we’re not use to this type of comedy in the US, the last thing we had that was close was the office.
I have a feeling they allowed the actor to write her own sarcastic comebacks, I truly don’t think an American writer could have wrote the way her British sarcastic ass would be, i think a lot of this would have been her own input and it paid off massively because her scenes with five were always amazing.

ever since lila was introduced in season2 I have always loved her dynamic with Five. Them being chaotic and frenemies passed as a great platonic chemistry. BUT I DID NOT EXPECT SHOWRUNNERS TO PLAN FOR THEM TO HAVE A ROMANTIC PLOT OH MY GOD the progression of their relationship seriously took me by surprise (but I aint complaining cuz like I said, they HAVE chemistry. And both are great actors that make all their scenes together in s4 so emotional.

I would have preferred by far, to be just found siblings and they could've bonded really sibling like over the time gap. Diego could've gotten jelly whatever, but they both could'vel aughed their asses off at it and explained sibling. That would've been preferred probably. felt like wasted angst and never eally got a resolution before the end.
. I think this would've been a fine romance if they had had diego and her break up during the multiple years between season 3 and 4's start. If they broke up off panel, because BOTH of them are adrenline junkies and life is boring. Then they had the 7 year gap in the subway. That would've been fine. Honestly diego being extra adrenline junky and her wanting to retire would make sense.
Fact is they really were the only two that dealt with some really specific experiences. Including both of them wanting a normal life, but both awkknowding they aren't a good fit. Diego wanting excitment, lila wanting retirment, leading to their break up, then years later five and her finding a retirment because they both know its bad fits but two bad fits worked out.
Five himself shows how much he chilled out between seasons, where he had no powers. and had enough time to proccess. and no apoclypses.. he had like 3+ in under amonth

Unpopular opinion but I saw their chemistry from a mile way, way before s4. I shipped them as I shipped Diego and her (a little more with 5 because I love his character more). Aidan is such an amazing actor that I have completely detached him from his character, when he is 5 i don’t see Aidan I see the adult 5. That’s why I don’t see their romance as weird. But because the actor irl is still so young maybe I wouldn’t have added a kiss. I wished their characters didn’t end up so heartbroken. 🥲
