Thing is, that sort of warehouse life, where the cat is free to do its own thing and socialise only if it wants, is so much closer to a cat's natural social arrangement than living in a house.
My parents had a deli in Newark NJ during the 80s and 90s. We had a few cats. Carmen was our best cat. Believe it or not we had to get her fixed because somehow she kept on getting pregnant. Somehow walked in that store every night she got out to get hers.
Gary - love that name. Ordinary human names for cats will never fail to amuse me. A friend of mine has a feisty cat named Donna, and I would always chuckle when I heard anyone talking about her.
I read somewhere that some cities are hiring cats to help lower the population of rodents. This also helps to control the cat population, meaning that they are spayed and neutered before hitting the streets. I don't know the minor details, but I would suggest that they wear a special collar to identify the hard working felines. With that being said, the cats should be compensated with food/water stations and yearly health checks. Perhaps maybe hire teenagers or the ederly to assist in fulfilling the needs of these 4-legged officers.

I hate that if a cat can't be adopted, the first thing is to put the poor creature down. So glad they now have little jobs and places to live happily 😊
A cat has an instinct to live outside in the home of some humans who need someone to protect their grain and they do a patrol of the home at least twice a day
I love cats, and animals generally, but I do support kill shelters. Why let an animal languish away for years in a cage? I was against them once upon a time but totally support them now.
Feral cat colonies DO carry disease, and not just rabies. They are also commonly inbred, and they present a danger to local wildlife. They are not a native species and they themselves often suffer. Neuter your cats.
@@pavarottiaardvark3431 So what if they are inbred? So are humans, and that is most of us. But this is a bad idea. Rats do not deserve the horrible death that they get from a cat.

@@jennyclark6183 No, most humans are not inbred. Most humans do not have offspring with their siblings. Feral cats suffer. Inbred kittens often have diseases and deformities. Feral cat mothers are often sick due to the constant breeding cycles, and many litters end up being abandoned. The best way to ensure that the small and vulnerable do not suffer is not to let feral cats breed uncontrollably.
How can anyone send a cat to this and say they care about animals????? Rodents are intelligent, feeling creatures and should never be fed to a cat. There are more humane ways to control their populations.
@@originaLkomatoast There are 02 tanks that you can lure them into and they just go to sleep and never wake up. Also, there are chemicals you can put into food for them to eat so that they just do not reproduce. They only live for 3 years, so if that had been put into effect 3 years ago, there would be very few of them now.
@@bellycurious Yes there is a chemical that you can put in food that keeps them from re-producing. If it had been used three years ago, there would be very few of them now. The powers that be dont' seem to want to use it.

Apart from everything else cats add a touch of class to any commercial establishment!
when you have a dog you own it, when you have a cat it owns you.
Not only does a cat a class to a business, but also boost business and bring in many patrons

What a great program!
Yes if you like seeing rats tortured to death. Rats are intelligent, feeling creatures and they don't deserve death by cat.
Who would not want to have a cat at work, I know I would.
Feral kitty killing the birds I feed. 3 in 2 days n she's maybe 3 mo old. Two were doves they weighed more than kit.
Wonderful
A very good idea.

Why should society decide if cats should live or die? Unless there is a rabies problem cats should be allowed to live in the streets.

Really? Name one "human way" to control their population. Are we giving the rodents the pill, or spay them?
