I've narrowed it down to these two cameras, and I still can't decide. Thanks for doing this video, though. It's given me the most clear look at both cameras side by side. Now I've got some thinking to do.
@@reedandesmas6292 Yep. I have the SL3. I find it great for video and the Face-detect is awesome. I don't care to use it with the eyepiece because my T7i has much better focus through the eyepiece though. I just recently bought an RP too and that one is even better for video and the EVF is a game-changer. Plus all the Full-frame advantages. Same Battery as the T7i & SL3 is a bonus. I recommend the SL3 if you're shooting videos or you like to use Live-View for pictures. It forces you to use the touchscreen to access more features so it can be quite a bit harder than a T7i to use with gloves on if that's a concern for you.
I'll add that it's also my primary webcam now too. I use the EOS utility to pair it to my computer and put on the 24mm f2.8 lens. Some temperature-controlled Neweer lights on an umbrella stand pointed at the wall behind my computer to soften it aad I can shoot at 1/60 f2.8 ISO 800 and look great for my Zoom meetings when I'm not recording music.
thanks for the video i like the options on the sl3 but i like how the m50 is smaller and more compact makes it hard to choose. random question are mirrorless becoming more popular and if so would it be better to get the m50 for the future ?
This video was extremely informative and helpful. I own 3 olympuses and a Fuji, but the size and weight of the lenses are somewhat an impediment when sticking a 300 mm into somewhat's face. I was looking for a cam that fits in a jacket pocket pocket. The M 50 is the exquisite choice for discrete street shooting. Fantastic video to help me find the right choice. In America and in Canada, carrying a Pen F or a XPro3 with pro prime lense is no issue, but in Venezuela or Manila I would not make it out of the airport with that kind of gear. The M 50 may be considered a beginners cam, but for certain situations it is just the best choice.
This was very Informative, I am a Beginner and was thinking of buying a New Camera. I mainly use it for Photography and Videography. This was an amazing Video.
Tech Gear Talk Wow. That’s a tough question. I am looking for a camera for youtube video. Though I like the look of 24fps, I think I have to go with the SL3 for the eye autofocus and clean hdmi and 422 output. Battery life is not too important for me because I am going to use the ac adapter (dummy battery) anyway. Sometimes, I have to take photos of me and my artists (I am a small record label owner) in the quiet dark music studios here. It seems like both have the same low light performance so either will work the same I guess? (Un)fortuantely, I don’t shoot Music Video myself by the way. If I do, I will have to get the M50 just for 24fps.
I think that's a very good process you went through there. I agree that for your needs, the SL3 is the best option. Using the AC adapter with the clean hdmi/422 and recording externally will be very powerful for you. As far as low-light: just make sure to add light, it's the best solution for all cameras :) Appreciate you participating in the community!
Very nice review. You just helped me decide which one to replace my t3. I’m going with the SL3. Mainly because I have big hands, and it’ll do every shot I’ll ever need. Next step is full frame for night sky photography. Thanks for doing what ya do. 👍
What an utterly perfect video! This is the first M50 250d comparison video I've watched and I've been able to make a decision. I usually have to watch 3 or 4 different videos. Great stuff!

This review is exactly what I was looking for! I was thinking about buying one of those two and I'll probably choose SL3. I'm looking for a camera mainly for photos, not videos so I hope it's a good choice. Thank you so much!
22:10 you mentioned skin smooth effect is only available with sl3, can you please confirm again if it's available with m50 or not? Great review and good efforts
Hey, you answered my comment on the SL2 vs. SL3 video yesterday. Thank you so much. I appreciate the fact that you answer your viewers' comments. You are selling me on the M50. It's cheaper and it seems to fulfill all my needs. I was thinking about the SL2, but I can't find any legitimate sellers online. Overall the M50 looks so gnarly. Thank you so much. You are getting a subscribe!
I’m deciding between these 2, it’ll be my first camera. I want one that’s good in both photography and video. I’m guessing the M50 is the right choice because I do plan on making a UA-cam channel and the auto focus would probably be very handy.
Hi. The autofocus for video is very good for both - so that wouldn't be a reason to pick the M50 over the SL3. However, the aufo focus through the viewfinder is better on the M50 and there are more AF points to pick from plus face tracking. If you plan on doing any streaming, the SL3 is a great option!
I bought the M50 in summer 2019 to use alongside my Drone, i checked out as many reviews as i could at the time and they pretty much all stated that the M50 was a good camera for vlogging. I used it initially for vlogging but lately i've been taking more time to get into the photo side of it, so i'm checking out the various settings for the different situations i'll be in when taking photo's. I'm new to the photography side of the camera, so i'm checking out the various tutorials. Thanks for your info on the two camera's, i think i made a decent choice considering where i am at the moment.
Hi George, I'm super glad the video was helpful. You can take very good images with the M50. Check out some samples with these lenses: ua-cam.com/video/uORT1dfeS0M/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for the kind words Ed!. If enough people find value in what I do and share the content, I'll get there. My focus is to create videos that help the community learn and made decision. Appreciate having you as part of the community.
So here we are in February of 2021. I am about to buy my wife her first non-cellphone camera. This is the one I am planning to go with, but in the last year has anything come out at a similar price point that I should consider instead? Thanks! Loved the review!
Hi Gabrielle - I would probably get the M50 before of the improved autofocus for photography using the EVF. If you plan on using the LCD to frame and set focus, then you can go with the SL3. From an image quality standpoint, they use the same sensor.
This video is so incredibly helpful. Thank you so much! I'm still a BIT torn between the 2 (however, I now have so much more information thanks to you!) I will be using it primarily for photography--boudoir and nature landscapes, to be exact. I understand the SL3 has some more flexibility in terms of lenses but I love the compact size of the M50! What would you recommend? Thanks so much in advance. Subscribed!
Usually if a review or comparison video is more than 10 or 15 minutes, I lose patience and move on. Not only did your video keep my attention, you were very concise with excellent pacing. I went ahead and liked and subscribed. Finally, do you think the SL3 is still a good purchase or is there something else a beginner photographer should get? I’m leaving in May to go to Switzerland to ride the Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps, so I will need to take landscape pictures from a slow moving train. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the feedback Daniel! I think the SL3 is still a good option if you want an entry-level dslr. If you want a mirrorless camera that super powerful and better than the M50, check out this: ua-cam.com/video/Nir8pfvfdFI/v-deo.html let me know if you have any questions (fyi mirrorless is nice when you're learning, because you see the exposure in the viewfinder).
Sagi! This was a great video, as I love the side by side comparison. I've watched so many of your videos to attempt to buy my first camera. I'm ultimately going with the SL3 as I'm a live streamer! Thank you for the great tips, and I'll be grabbing this stuff using your links!
Hi Matt, I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos. If you're a live streamer, you made the right choice for sure - zero doubt. Thanks so much for the support!! Appreciate having you as part of the channel 🙏👊
What a great review, congrats! I have just a question: which one would be the best choice for photographing landscapes? I mostly take pictures of the sky, parks, beaches, during the day.
Both will do a similar job (as long as you don't need 1080p/24 (which the SL3 can't do). The M50 is smaller which is nice for traveling but I would suggest that you go to a store and hold both to see which is more comfortable to use.
I am mainly looking into photography cameras. And I am inbetween these two, the m6 mark ii and the Sony a6400... I am a beguinner and this really helps. Thank you!
Hello sir, I am currently planning to buy the SL2. Should I wait till this SL3 hits the market here in middle east to expect a price reduction on the SL2. Currently SL2 is being sold at a retail price of 590 USD with an 18-55 mm kit lense.
If you're going to buy the SL2 for sure, I would wait a little and you will get a better deal. I'm already seeing that happen in different places. In the US the price difference isn't that big. Is there a release date where you live?
Amazing video, Thankyou, I find myself in this very predicament, choosing from these two cameras. I am a beginner and intend on doing a multitude of photography and filming including landscape photography, sports photography and filming and also food photography. I have recently held both of these cameras and my personal preference was the the SL3 felt better in the hand. It seems both cameras are very good and both will help me on my beginners journey, so my question is with these cameras being very similar and listening to your advice is the way it feels in the hand enough or should I consider more things. Thankyou Lee
You nailed it! I feel the same way - I reach for the SL3 instead of the M50 because it's more comfortable. The biggest advantages of the M50 are that you can see the exposure in the viewfinder and there is the possibility for a speedbooster with EF lenses. If those two don't make you say "I need an m50" then definitely go with the SL3 because you are more likely to use a camera that feel comfortable. Hope that helps.
I cose the M50 and have had it for over a year. I love this camera for vlogging. And I use adapter for all my other canon lenses. Thanks for your video!
Really good comparison and very helpful in my search for my first camera. My only complaint is that I didn’t really see any low-light photos taken with the M50. Not sure what I should invest in since lens types, mirrorless/DSLR are all factors. The SL3 seems like the way to go here but the Sony mirrorless stuff also has my attention. Subscribed for more
Thanks for the feedback Jordan. I’ll add some M50 low light shots for a future video. The Sony a6400 is another good option if you want to look at Sony. I really liked the a7iii but it’s in another price point ua-cam.com/video/X0wp0GRgFsk/v-deo.html what will you use your camera for?
Tech Gear Talk Great, thanks! :) I will mostly be using for basic photography (nature, landscape, lifestyle) and I would also like to begin posting music and music gear related videos to UA-cam again, but properly now that it’s 2019;) An articulating screen would be great but not a must-have. I guess my only hang up with the Sony stuff is the price because I need some other gear and software but at the same time, I don’t want to get something that’s only marginally better than my iPhone. Also, the lack of 24fps HD on the SL3 is kind of a bummer. Thanks for the feedback!
Looks like your comment got cut off. Yes, sony gear is $$$ I just got an a6400 and will do a livestream this weekend if you're interested in watching/asking questions. Looks pretty good from my research so far.
@@jordandedomusic if you want a camera for photography SL3 does not accept third-party flashes, which is surprisingly unacceptable. Besides it doesn't has 24 fps in 1920. Again, terrible surprise. What did do Canon with this camera? M50 does not has these problems. About the lenses... Canon has cheaper lenses than Sony. And with an adapter on M50 you can access to the whole world Canon lenses.

Would you say the 250D still holds up vs the M50 Mk II in 2022? I'd like to upgrade my 100D that I use as a webcam for online teaching/UA-cam videos and the M50 Mk II comes highly recommended. The only thing putting me off is the fact that all my lenses are EF mount and an adapter is just something extra I'd have to buy. The specs for the 250D and M50 Mk II look virtually identical on paper so is there anything I'd be missing out on by getting the 250D instead? Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.
I was really confused on which one to buy as both come in budget and both are great camera's , now after watching this I found out which one to buy. Easily one of the best review's I have ever seen.
Brother... Thank you!!! I've been searching videos all over for the past couple hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't work in OBS but lo and behold it was my camera lol. Thank you so much!
Good video. I already have a Canon M50 but I've been considering an SL3 for the clean HDMI out and the fact that I can use the DLSR lenses I already have.
Can you help me with just one question? Will there be significant difference in low light photography ? Or astrophotography. I mean if I increase ISO in both of these, how will they perform. Will there be much more noise in sl3 compared to m50 ? Another thing, 5fps vs 10fps How big game changer this will be if I am not a daily action photographer but sometimes I want to capture fast moving objects. Lets say, in astrophotography at 250 or 300mm I am taking shots of moon when a satellite is being passed through it which which will pass really quick. Any help would be appreciated.
Glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind words. 1. you'll notice no difference between the 2 cameras. The SL3 will definitely not be worse. 2. This does not matter unless you're shooting a lot of fast moving subjects and need that (ex. sports - you need someone at the exact moment they shoot the ball). 3. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. I don't do a ton of astrophotography though. Hope this was helpful.
Hi, I really loved this kind of videos where presenter is not biased, just straight talk, now I'm not exactly in the process of getting either the M50 or the SL3 BUT either the 90D or the SL3. But my question is, with APS-C sensor which lense whould I get for wide angle live streaming? I do just talking head videos and I won't record on the cam itself but using vMix or my computer so I want the depth of fild or blur background effect?. So what's your advice on this, livestreaming and wide angle shot and 1080p resolution !4K. Thanks
Ive ordered the SL3 (well, the EOS 250d here in Spain) another note worth saying, I ordered a silver body, with leather looking (not sure if it is leather) grip! there are 3 colors, black, white, and silver. (not sure if the M50 has those options too. I also wanted to say that I made the choice thanks to this video, I prefer the option of more variety of lenses! so thank you for this video!! I appreciate it! I also got my old EOS 700d working again, and hot even got it to work as a webcam with just the USB cable! I have one more question, what type of USB connection is on the 250d? is it the same as the 700d? or has it changed?
You know what I like about you you're so honest you are so honest how you go through your presentation on both cameras amazing
I'm really happy the presentation style is helpful. The only thing that matters to me is that I give you my honest opinion.
Excellent video. In your opinion, which one takes the best pictures?
thanks for the video i like the options on the sl3 but i like how the m50 is smaller and more compact makes it hard to choose. random question are mirrorless becoming more popular and if so would it be better to get the m50 for the future ?
Very helpful! Thank you
That's great to hear Annabelle. Which one did you like better?
Very nice video. How are your feelings of the SL3 vs nikon d5600?
This was very Informative, I am a Beginner and was thinking of buying a New Camera. I mainly use it for Photography and Videography. This was an amazing Video.
Excellent comparison video. I was going towards the M50 now I'm leaning towards the SL3. 👍🏾
Glad it was helpful Charles!
Thank you so much for the comparison. This is the most organized and precise comparison video.👍
You are very welcome, glad you liked it. Which camera did you like better?
As far as low-light: just make sure to add light, it's the best solution for all cameras :)
Appreciate you participating in the community!
Thank you for the comparison again. 👍
You're very welcome, appreciate your feedback and joining the community!
Which one did you go for?
It was quite helpful about which one I should choose as a new user. Thank you so much!
Half it was helpful. The m50 is better for photography because of the eye detection and the evf autofocus. Welcome to the channel!
which one would u reccomended to a vlogger? I have the g7x ii, but i want some professional shoots to mix in my videos... what would u reccomend?
buy sl3 so u have alot of lens option and cheap too
Vc por aqui? Que surpresa! 😃
Nice question. Following.

Dude this is really helpful
I am planning to get the sl3 next black friday
So wish me luck that I get good offers
P.s watching you from the middle east❤
Thanks for watching and leaving feedback! I'm hoping you get a great deal!!
Hey so I’m looking to get into making documentaries i started watching many of your videos they are very helpful! What would your recommendation be for a documentary look!?
Hi. Both would work with the right settings. Watch this tutorial ua-cam.com/video/RDs-Zzb0pmE/v-deo.html
Good review between the two canon cameras. This is the best review on the SL3 that actually helps me decide if I want to purchase it or not. Thanks!
Great review and reassuring as I've just ordered a250d(SL3)
Thank you so much for this video! I love how you explain some technical lingo that beginners or people who aren't that tech-savvy can understand.
I’m so glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind words! Appreciate you being part of the channel!
How do you only have 55k? Love these videos you make dude! Insightful and really helpful when making decisions on kit. Hope you gain more of a following soon, you really do deserve it!
I'm super glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words and for joining the community 🙏 I think if people keep enjoying the videos and share them, the channel will grow.
Again, appreciate having you as part of the community.
This review is exactly what I was looking for! I was thinking about buying one of those two and I'll probably choose SL3. I'm looking for a camera mainly for photos, not videos so I hope it's a good choice. Thank you so much!
As long as you don't need 1080p at 24fps , the SL3 is a great choice. Glad the review helped!
So glad I was able to help and thanks for the Sub!
Tech Gear Talk thanks for the reply, and no I don’t plan on doing live-streaming.
Alright, sounds like you're all set!
I am not looking for buying any of these cameras still watched the whole video coz it's you 😂😂😂
I'm super grateful for your time and all the support - I really am 🙏
What's a better camera mirrorless
12:10 so with a 300mm Lens i Would get 480mm Zoom 😂
since 300 * 1.6 is 480 ?
That is correct (if you compare it to a full frame sensor camera) you will get a 480mm equivalent field of view.
Hi. Extremely informative video. Thank you. Can I ask which one is better for low light images and video?
Thanks for the breakdown. I was going to pick up the M50 but after watching this video I’m sold on the SL3.
Always on point...you need more subs you have a clear tone and great presence. I'm going with the M50 myself
Thank you so much for the kind words Ed!. If enough people find value in what I do and share the content, I'll get there. My focus is to create videos that help the community learn and made decision. Appreciate having you as part of the community.
Well done Sagi. You deserve more subs bud!
Thanks so much Patrick. In time, if people find value in the videos, watch/share I think it will happen.
This channel is the best in camera content and more knowledgeable! Keep it up sir, i think this channel needs more subscribers
Thanks brother, appreciate the support!
I am leaning to the slr3, will it work well for sports? Video and pictures?
I am late to the party but I am so glad I have found your channel. Just brilliant.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and for the kind words. Thank you for joining the community 🙏 - welcome!
I found your video helpful. I like the m50 but with your video, I'm beginning to change my mind.
I'm super glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words and for joining the community 🙏
Great review! It really helps a lot, i finally have an answer for choosing these cameras. SL3 would be the best fit for me. Thank you!
So glad it was helpful!!! Thanks for joining the community 👊🙏
So here we are in February of 2021. I am about to buy my wife her first non-cellphone camera. This is the one I am planning to go with, but in the last year has anything come out at a similar price point that I should consider instead? Thanks! Loved the review!
I was looking at buying my first dslr/mirrorless camera and couldn't decide which - this video was a huge help, so thank you!
I'm looking for my first profesional camera for nature shots. Would you recommend the m50, sl2 or sl3
Hi Gabrielle - I would probably get the M50 before of the improved autofocus for photography using the EVF. If you plan on using the LCD to frame and set focus, then you can go with the SL3. From an image quality standpoint, they use the same sensor.
I got the sl3 loving it.
CONGRATS!!! Glad you found a good fit!
This video is so incredibly helpful. Thank you so much!
I'm still a BIT torn between the 2 (however, I now have so much more information thanks to you!)
I will be using it primarily for photography--boudoir and nature landscapes, to be exact.
Hi... you mentioned the SL3 has eye detection focus... but the M50 has it too... right? And I think M50 has objection detection focusing?
Thank you so much sir for clearing my confusion
Love from India ♥️🇮🇳
Super glad I was able to help! Appreciate the support!
I would definitely watch the comparison with the adaptors on.
Thanks for watching and the feedback Joel!
This is helping us till now
What a great review, congrats! I have just a question: which one would be the best choice for photographing landscapes? I mostly take pictures of the sky, parks, beaches, during the day.
Thanks! You really helped me clear my vision! I am starting to get into UA-cam and your comprehensive review helped me to finally get the 250D :D
I'm really glad I was able to help. Thank you for being part of the channel and good luck with yours!
You kept my request!
I love you Tech Gear! 💖
Hope you like how it came out. Let me know which camera you liked better at the end.
I don’t know what I should buy.
U have gotten a new subscriber ❤️
What will you use the camera for? Thank you for the support!
Tech Gear Talk I would use it for UA-cam Videos and for traveling
Both will do a similar job (as long as you don't need 1080p/24 (which the SL3 can't do).
The M50 is smaller which is nice for traveling but I would suggest that you go to a store and hold both to see which is more comfortable to use.
Tech Gear Talk Thank you❕😊
You're very welcome
I am mainly looking into photography cameras. And I am inbetween these two, the m6 mark ii and the Sony a6400... I am a beguinner and this really helps. Thank you!
So far this is the only video I’ve found with a clear answer for me at the end. Thank you. I think I’ll go with the SL3.
Thankyou
Lee
You nailed it! I feel the same way - I reach for the SL3 instead of the M50 because it's more comfortable. The biggest advantages of the M50 are that you can see the exposure in the viewfinder and there is the possibility for a speedbooster with EF lenses. If those two don't make you say "I need an m50" then definitely go with the SL3 because you are more likely to use a camera that feel comfortable. Hope that helps.
This is great! Thank you for putting so much effort in your videos, you clearly see the quality and the passion :)
I'm glad the video was helpful. Thanks for the kind words!
I cose the M50 and have had it for over a year. I love this camera for vlogging. And I use adapter for all my other canon lenses. Thanks for your video!
Congrats!! Check out this follow up video I just published: ua-cam.com/video/Hj_QrxcsXYg/v-deo.html Let me know what you think
Hello I found your video very helpful. I want to buy one of them but I can't decide. Which one of them would you reccomend for professional photos?
Deserving of a New SUB. Done, and Thank you . Appreciate the time and effort put in for this video.
Thanks so much for the feedback and for joining the community Eric 🙏
Finally Sagi! A huge Thanks!🙏🙏❤❤💯
You're welcome brother! Hope you like it. Let me know what you think.
@@TechGearTalk really helpful, but i think I'm still buying the sl2. And your page is also Very helpful, Thanks again
Glad to hear that. You know I love the SL2 so I think it's a fantastic choice.
I will mostly be using for basic photography (nature, landscape, lifestyle) and I would also like to begin posting music and music gear related videos to UA-cam again, but properly now that it’s 2019;) An articulating screen would be great but not a must-have.
Yes, sony gear is $$$
I just got an a6400 and will do a livestream this weekend if you're interested in watching/asking questions.
Mario Benites thanks for your reply! Great info
Wow! Very detailed review. I'm new to photography and am enrolling in a class. Which would you recommend Asa first camera? I don't plan to do live streaming or video but one never knows. Thank you for taking the time to guide me.
Very simple and clear, I prefer 250D going to gift my 16yr daughter.
oh god i had my hand on my heart the whole time because i chose SL3 over the M50 and i was TERRIFIED i made the wrong choice
For photography 👉SL3 is better
For Videography 👉M50 best option
Appreciate you watching and sharing your input 🙏🏻
Thanks
@@lourdyregis7033 sl3 is better by the specifics I think :D
I disagre! I have used the M50 for videography, and it’s SO bad! I would go for the SL3 for both hands Down
@@SimonChristensen619 I have Sl3 ,, Mirror less is batter then Dlr for Videography,,,
But for Videography 👉 SL3 is a good choice cause it's longer Battery🔋
Bloopers are always fun lol. Good video
Thanks J! Appreciate the feedback, hope the video was helpful.
Ur amazing...so underrated
That is so kind of you to say. I’m glad that the videos are useful and grateful to have you in my community 🙏🏻
cannon moving forward pass the boomer speeds.
thanks for watching. I'm not sure I understand.
@@TechGearTalk you wouldn't get it
ok
"tech gear" you cant have everything in one camera. "canon" hold my beer. "canon" releases eos r5
I know right!!! I can't wait for that camera!!!
Just like at least 9 times more expensive but hey 😂😂
@@therealcinnimo I can sell my kidney.. icould.. god gave me two because he knew canon would exist in this timeline..

I've been searching videos all over for the past couple hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't work in OBS but lo and behold it was my camera lol. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful. Thank you for being part of the channel!
Good video. I already have a Canon M50 but I've been considering an SL3 for the clean HDMI out and the fact that I can use the DLSR lenses I already have.
Really enjoyed your video.
For a photography travel purpose, which would be your choice?
Thanks Gabriela. I really like the small size of the M50 for travel. Hope that helps.
This is by far the best comparison video I have seen. Just what I was looking for.
Can you help me with just one question? Will there be significant difference in low light photography ? Or astrophotography. I mean if I increase ISO in both of these, how will they perform. Will there be much more noise in sl3 compared to m50 ?
Another thing, 5fps vs 10fps
How big game changer this will be if I am not a daily action photographer but sometimes I want to capture fast moving objects.
@@TechGearTalk yes it is, thanks for replying
Glad I could help! 👍
Thanks
Ive ordered the SL3 (well, the EOS 250d here in Spain)
another note worth saying, I ordered a silver body, with leather looking (not sure if it is leather) grip!
there are 3 colors, black, white, and silver.
Thank you for all of your videos, truly appreciate content creators who help people making their choices!
