    Loving the original and informative content that nobody else seems to think of talking about Brendan. Your channel is a UA-cam gem. Keep it up! (:

      Mart Siemerink thank you man that means a lot! Really happy I have an audience that appreciates it. It’s hard being purely informative with longer winded videos on UA-cam sometimes but well worth the help I can give if some will actually listen! So I appreciate you!

    I widened my grip like you say, to increase scapular retraction and tightness, and instantly hit a PR because of better force transfer in the low bar squat. I really appreciate how useful your videos are for me, as well as informative and perspective enhancing. Pretty much every video has impacted my training in that kind of positive way. Please keep up the great work producing these videos; it is a true service to the fitness community, Brendan.

    I had absolutely no idea that that feeling of tightness was coming from my arms not my back, thank you so much for the content, keep up the god work plzz

    Thank you for this video and all the other videos you have posted! I’ve literally been scared to do mobility drills shown on UA-cam because I badly hurt my hips following something someone else posted that had me in the worst pain for week or so

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому +3

      bananaman1394 Thanks man! So i have a mic but a lapel mic is unrealistic for most of my videos since I’m moving in the gym. Most other youtubers either own gyms like Calgary/barbell brigade or they film at home mostly. It’s a tricky situation but there isn’t too much I can do unfortunately besides a directional mic. However this video in particular was real bad because the music was blasting. I did just buy home gym equipment again though so the sound will be much better for a lot of videos!

    I definitely have had an issue with feeling tight in my squat but just ending up puffing my chest out. Will definitely try to tweak on my squats today and see if there's a change in stability

    Also I'm just wondering do you have any videos on elbow and wrist positioning during the squat. I feel like my right elbow tends shoot back and up during the concentric movement. High bar squats BTW.

    Hey man, lived the video as always. Quick question: iv been lifting for a few years now, and Id say I have a good understanding o the basics and fundamentals when it comes to training myself, but I recently convinced a very good friend of mine to start hitting the gym with me. He is quite overweight, at about 110kg at 5'11 or so, and he can't seem to get into a good deadlift or squat position. His heels tend to lift up during both squats and deadlifts, and I'm just wondering lf you have any advice for someone in his situation. He's made amazing weight loss progress in the last few years but I think he has plateaued. Are there any basic movements that you would suggest he works on?? Thanks in advance

      lidia bustamante for some it’s not a necessity but it’s worth trying to see if you load better into a squat especially if you deal with over extension! This still in particular really neutralizes the spine/aligns the pelvis. Hip flexion is the least trained ROM in most powerlifting/bodybuilding routines. So it helps out a lot for some. It’s also why I try to keep in hanging knee raises or weighted hip flexed sit-ups year around. Although I get lazy af on those lol

    So in the bench you had to do 5 'working sets' and 4 'back-off sets', so 9 sets overall for the day? And if the RPE is too low, do you adjust the load of the working sets upwards, or the load of the back-off sets upwards (or both)?

    Should you be doing the tendon rehab movement if there's pain in the tendon already?

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому +1

      SoaringGiraffes yes! However the trick is doing it correctly. That’s actually why I was doing it because I have pain. You have to go REALLY slow. Like so so slow and get a burn/pump there. It should cause zero pain. It rehabbed me so well last time along with glute activation drills

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому +1

      SoaringGiraffes however be sure first that it’s quad tendinopathy. See someone in the clinical athlete database for sure. It could be something else.

    Don't you lose some tightness in the squat? It looks like that you start the movement by slight arching (butts back), and your torso is not rigid. This is not case with your GF's squat.

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому

      Márton K no, ironically she tips on maxes and I don’t. Her largest issue is anterior pelvic tilt out of the hole. So quite the opposite. I’m a posterior dominant squatter and I move the knees laterally through hip external rotation really aggressively so it seems I just sit back but in reality my bar path is centered. If you view hers from the side there’s huge deviation. As most quad dominant squatters usually have like herself. The slight start of over extension is pretty normal for me lately though because of some knee issues. Remember rigidity is built through the brace, not movement. Obviously a toppled squat will probably cause loss of rigidity but the pressure comes from the brace. Because my brace is really locked in and I maintain a centered bar path I’m always good.

    • @TheGroundedCoffee
      @TheGroundedCoffee 6 років тому +3

      Brendan Tietz wow. While I do think I understand your point of view on that comment, I do think your reaction is way over the top, Brendan. Your videos are solid and I respect you a lot for the content you bring out for free and everybody to see, but reacting in this kind of way isn't exactly charming.

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому +5

      Zach Simpson fuck yeah I’m mad. The entirety of the UA-cam fitness platform and really this world in general is destroyed because our minds in society have become so dull that we seek out quick, Shallow and substance free information to find a quick fix. Influencers now capitalize on this and create nicely edited 3-6 minute videos in compartmentalized fashion that incite zero knowledge or critical thinking and instead glamorize an “answer” to a question with some title like “science behind this” or “that best trick for fat loss”. It plays on our reward pathway by offering what seems like an enticing reward for little to no effort and reinforces false memorization and regurgitation of bullshit. We no longer teach or help, we instead glaze your eyes over with bs while you perceive a benefit of the acquisition of knowledge when in reality you’re learning nothing and just filling the creators pockets with money, views, and eyes to market various things they’re selling you. This problematic approach is being applied almost everywhere in life and is one of the underlying reasons as a world society we are in such a bad place. Tbh nothing pisses me off more.

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  6 років тому +6

      KoudeZuurkool let me be explicitly clear. I’m not here to be charming or nice. I may seem that way because at times I very much am and you see it manifest on camera however my only concern is teaching those who actually want to learn. I’m trying to pass on a legacy of knowledge to an audience whom is here to actually learn. Read my response above to the other comment. It best sums up my cynical view on this rather pathetic industry and world if you’re curious as to why. I could have sent him this message privately but i chose to leave my response publicly instead of just deleting his comment like most youtubers would do. I purposefully did this to weed out anyone who thinks this channel is here for a “good face”. I’m not here to sell much of anything other than my coaching or things that actually help people and if you follow me on Instagram you saw just how little I care about money the other day when I did that story showing my email and how fucked up I could be. Ironically all the “nice” youtubers out there that you probably would think would never have rude thoughts are sitting there at the “youtube house” I was in talking horrible shit about their clients or are at expos behind the scenes talking about money. They’re turning off their camera after their cute vlog and saying “I fucking hate my UA-cam channel and all the followers but it makes me a living I want” (that’s a real quote by someone I’m almost 100% positive you know). Instead I don’t conceal my true thoughts as in reality minus my cynicism I’m actually here for the right reasons and I have no problem walking a high ground all over this bullshit industry. This industry and many other things came to fruition from the exact mindset above. I absolutely don’t want that subscriber here or anyone who’s offended by the cold hard truth. I’m not here to baby people or be nice or especially let someone degrade my work into being what they want because if I do I’m slowly going to become like the rest. Flip the script for a second, you’re an elite powerlifter who’s riddled with injuries and training in a live gym with loud music. Your UA-cam channel is unmonetized and you make zero money from it. You decide to go out of your way to film a 20 minute video in the middle of your workout (this took about 1.5 hours to film, we left the gym 4 hours after getting here) only to be reminded that the vast majority of youtube doesn’t I’ve a shit about learning but instead disrespectfully demands you do what everyone else does... yeah I’m triggered and have no issue admitting that and I’d happily say this to anyone.

    • @TheGroundedCoffee
      @TheGroundedCoffee 6 років тому +1

      Brendan Tietz okay man, thanks for taking the time to give your honest opinion about it. I understand way better now where you're coming from and I also respect the fact that you actively weed out the kind of public that you don't want on your channel. You're upfront about it and that's admireble. I just think we differ on opinion if you should attack someone personally about it. On the other hand I do understand that you might feel attacked by this person, as it seems he deminnishes your hard work by not respecting the rest of the stuff surrounding the topic that's described in the title. Anyway, please keep those videos coming, I've learned a lot from them that benefited my lifts.
