Vika did not choke during this match. She never dropped her level of play. Watch the match. Serena got her act together 0-4 down in the second. She started hitting harder, moving Vika, and taking the initiative. Her returns became much better. This was not a choke by Vika. This was Serena WINNING the match.
I watched this matched. I asked my daughter to name my granddaughter, who was a twin, Seryna. Spelled different because she was an Angel here for a moment named after a Champion. My Seryna lived 12 days but every time I watch our Champion Serena take the court I have her with me. I love you both
+Ivan Steffo Serena has 36 grand slams. And that's 2nd in the open era. But even then that wasn't the question, a bunch of her grand slam wins required no comebacks.
Ten of the twenty one slams Serena won she had to comeback and win. Australian Open 03, 05,09,10, 15, Wimbledon 2012, U.S. Open 2012 &13, French Open 2015. Some comeback in those tournaments were either in the first or the second week of slams.
johnny blanks Which match did she comeback from at Wimbledon 2012? I'd definitely add Wimbledon 2009 though where she saved a match point in the semifinal, French Open 2015 where she was down a set and a break in multiple matches (5 of 7 matches went to 3 sets), and Wimbledon 2015 where she was down 0-3 in the third set vs Watson.
Serena was just kicking ass and taking names later in the 3rd...this is why she's the greatest of all time. Vika, I tip my hat off to her, always pushes Serena and a champion in her own right.
Since 2010 Azarenka has definitely played Serena the best. She's actually won the first set in most of their matches. And served for the match in 3 matches she eventually lost, including in the 2012 US Open final. It's a VERY close rivalry. I just think Azarenka deals with Serena's serve the best!
+Maolseachlainn1 And in those 17 losses how many match points did she squander? How many matches did she serve for? I never said she was better, I just said she's Serena's toughest competitor
+Sean Jenkins To quote you: 'It's a VERY close rivalry' - simply not true when you compare their head-to-head stats: 17-3 is not close on any measure. How Serena came to win (or how Azarenka came to lose) is not really relevant - the stats speak for themselves. Serena simply dominates Azarenka.
+Maolseachlainn1 How many currently active players have beaten Serena 3 or more times, with 2 or more wins over Serena at her best level? Cornet beat Serena at her very worst, same with Wozniacki and Sharapova's wins. Stosur, Kuznetsova, Azarenka and Venus beat Serena at her very best level, Kuznetsova in FO 2009 QF, Azarenka in Doha 2013 when Serena became world no.1 till now, Stosur at 2010 FO QF and 2011 USO Final and Venus at 2008 Wimbledon final, when Serena had 19-6 winner-ue ratio in 1st set and still lost.
Vikia was 100% in control of this match 1 set in the books & up 4 games to 1 in the 2nd set; she fell apart; Serena is so mentally tough; she just kept her focus and played harder....Hail to the up and coming new GOAT...19 slams and counting.
I knew Serena had declared war in the second set when she started attacking Azarenka second serve, the moment Serena realises that she is in danger she usually changes her game completely, this is what a champion is made of,if it was Sharapova she could have bn beaten hands down becoz she doesnt have a plan B,this is why am in Serena's camp, there is no player in WTA who can do this not even Venus. Pleople thought Serena was losing even the commentators started saying if Serena loses the next day will be declared a Holiday, never count Serena out,she is a queen of comeback. Azarenka will never defeat Serena with those weak serves in an important stage, she can defeat her when sick or injuired but not healthy Serena. I hope the young generation are learning from Serena especially Sloane Stephens who thinks she is in Serena's leage. What makes Serena special is the fact she hate losing, she Always play smart tennis at important moment ask Justin.
This is why women's tennis is the best and biggest female sport out there! These two women are like gladiators, they go out there to win the big trophies. They go toe to toe blow for blow till the end! Thats why the WTA players are the best paid Female Athletes in the world and they deserve it! Im a guy i think there should be a (little) more equality between Female and Male Athletes in the money department! Thats why i love tennis, women make as much money as the men on the court! Great example hopefully other sports would follow too in the future!
Vika didn't lose this match. Down 4-0 in the second Serena just flipped the switch. She kept hitting her way out of trouble until she was in total command. It was like she said to herself, "If I'm gonna go down might as well go down swinging." And she swung herself back into the match and into victory.
there is one thing Serena is alergic to, and that is when you start believing and behaving like you are beating her. Thats where she turns the switch; just like after a spectuculair point from the other side, making Serena look bad, always follows the corrector serve, the equilizer, the punisher.
Serena started setting-up and began hitting the ball *much harder, down 0-4. the winners began to flow and Azarenka was rendered a spectator on the court. Vika said all this /herself, after the match. but how many times has Serena done this? dozens, if not hundreds, of times ...
An EPIC Comeback! One for the ages-This ladies and gentlemen is why Serena Jameka Williams is on the Mt Rushmore of Tennis Greats. Amonst The very few true answers of who would you have play a match for your life? - A True Great who is able to raise her level to sublime levels, this match isn't about what Azarenka did to lose after that lead of a set and 4-0 in the second but about the uncommon strength toughness, talent and greatness of a one of a kind, living legend future HOFamer Serena Williams.
How many walls have been punched and how many tears have been shed because of Venus & Serena? Lol OMG there was a time when blacks couldn't even get a chance and now....the credits are rolling lol GOD is good
Ciarra Johnson thanks for mentioning Venus- so many so called fans have abandoned her in recent years and forgotten how devastating she is at her best. Still say that on grass her best level is better than anyone
That's why I consider her the GOAT. And the 2010 AO was probably the most impressive GS she won. She wasn't healthy. She had tough opponents. And here against Azarenka, she was really up against it down a set and 0-4. But, being the champion that she is, she managed to raise her game when it mattered. And she beat a tough rival in the final to retain her title. Mighty impressive, if you ask me.
I really would love to watch this match in it's entirety... Azarenka showed so much promise and potential in this match, and that's why she is a grand slam champion today! Hopefully next year we will see these two play at Melbourne at the top of their games. That would be a sight to behold.
Serena's top 3 comeback GS victories (in no particular order): This match, the one vs. Clijsters here in the 2003 SF, andmthe one vs. Petrova here in the 2007 3rd Rd. It's something abiut the Australian Open for her, clearly. An honorable mention goes to her 2008 QF at the US Open against Venus. Saved 10 (yeah 10) set points against herself in that match. #insanity
I can't believe Azarenka lost this match. After that second set, Vika just looked exhausted and Serena picked up her game big time. Thanks for uploading this :-)
8:45 "If you haven't figured it out yet everyone, never, ever count out Serena Williams." So, what the hell were ya'll just doing in the 1st and 2nd opening set?
They were saying the truth. Azarenka was outplaying Serena because Serena wasn't playing well and Azarenka was doing a great job. Good that Serena won... but the were simply saying the truth.
Because commentators speak what’s on their minds in that moment in time. Why in the heck are you trying to hold play by play commentators, getting paid mainly for the ratings they can generate based off those words, accountable for saying something they felt was right at the time?
I remember watching this match live thinking Serena would lose for sure. Shame on me! She turned it on and It proved her greatness. It was incredible to watch. By far one her greatest comebacks.
I love at 4.10 when the commentator is like 'or Azarenka is going to play Na Li, who would've thought that?' considering both end up AO champions with multiple final appearances.
one of the all-time classic games of Sarena carrier, even she was not feeling good, she was 0-4 in the second set and come back to the game and win the match.
The comments they make about Serena are very pathetic. They want Serena to loose but that would not happen so easily. I am tired of the comments and commentators. They never give the respect Serena needs. They were already saying that Azarenka will play against Li Na. The moral for all commentators is to never count out Serena. I am so happy that Serena beat her. Everyone is against the Williams sisters I don't understand this. The actually deserve all the praises and respect. Serena you are a great champion and u will always stay one.
THIS IS WHAT SERENA IS ABOUT!! Never giving up and being able to up her level when its important..I also remember watching this in disbelief that at 4-0 in the second set, she came back to win the whole thing...only a champion.....cant wait till she comes back next year!!!
EPIC SHIT. THIS match is the reason why all Serena/Azarenka encounters since have been Serena domination. Azarenka had 100% belief that she could beat Serena up until this point. Now everytime she plays Serena, she looks like she's going to cry during the match.
I think with time she have had developed into a really strong mental player. Starting from last year we've seen her saving lots of match point but unfortunately she wasnt able to close matches that often against top players. This year she totally changed into a different player. I hope she could keep up with her good work because I personally think she has the best potential to be the next great champion after serena.
@TheKenneth1300 I know! All the while I was telling myself "No way is Serena losing this match... at least not like this" and BAM! She goes into God-mode!! I wish I could relive that night lol
this what you call truly inspirational and true determination. The word "impossible" would be an understandment to what we just saw. ANYTHING is possible. Never give up. Keep on striving and motivating yourself because things change in an instant.
I remember this match...I was freaking out so bad I had to mute the tv because of course the commentators on espn were already counting her out and I just didnt wanna believe it She finally got in gear and started playing her game and i got to calm down. Most stressful match I've ever seen
Vika didn't blew it, she didn't choke... Its not the first time Serena came back from a lost position to win. It was Serena who was served like crab for set and half! For set and half Serena saw Vika's backhand winners fly past her, she was in shock (look at her face there 5:09) she didn't expect that at all. Then all of a sudden she starts relaxing and her first serve started working, she's hitting the groundstrokes more flatter. Its classic Serena, you can't count her out until you hear from the umpire say: ''game set and match.......'' But Vika has shown she can go toe to toe vs. Serena 9:08!
Vika is the only one who really gives you that 😊 that's why I like her. Serena doesn't do to Vika what she does to the others and that's commendable 🌟🌟
I remember turning off the TV when Serena was down 4-6, 0-4 and I was thinking 'no way can she pull this one out.' Oh, me of little faith... LOL... When I checked the score later, I got a huge (pleasant) surprise.
This match almost made me quit watching tennis…I changed the channel when serena was like down 0-4 , then I said later on let me go back and watch the end of the match like a big boy, and she was in a tiebreaker 😅 I never gave up on her again.
Azarenka couldn't do anything to stop the comeback. After being down 6-4 4-0, Williams hit winner after winner and put Azarenka in hopeless situations. By the time the dust cleared it was 5-4 Serena in the 2nd set.
Serena use to keep the ball in and placing the ball at the beginning of the match. If it didn't work, then she will release her power and u got no chance to win anymore
@Agile3040 You misunderstand me, both times. What I'm saying is that Venus pulled out in her third round match, meaning the injury wasn't a fake or a mental game with her second round opponent. If she had somehow been able to play the match and win to face Sharapova in the fourth round, she would have no chance. I'm not sure where the mixup between us had occurred.
I still can't fathom that Serena lost to a player like Makarova 6-2, 6-3 like that in the fourth round! Shocking, really.... I really hope her best days aren't behind her! I want to see at least one more Slam.
Vika did not choke during this match. She never dropped her level of play. Watch the match. Serena got her act together 0-4 down in the second. She started hitting harder, moving Vika, and taking the initiative. Her returns became much better. This was not a choke by Vika. This was Serena WINNING the match.

one of the best comebacks in her career!!!
@Shinobu Tsurubushi Shoulda, Coulda but didnt! Haha!!!!!!
Shinobu Tsurubushi 23 grand slams to steffi 22 Lmaoooooo the struggle
@Shinobu Tsurubushi No woman could have prevented Serena from winning the next 5 games after going up 4:0 in the second set
how many times has Serena had to comeback like this in a match to win a grandslam. Thats why shes such an Incredible champion

When she played Zheng Jie at Wimbledon . Serena was down a set and a break. Serena came back to win that match
Serena was just kicking ass and taking names later in the 3rd...this is why she's the greatest of all time. Vika, I tip my hat off to her, always pushes Serena and a champion in her own right.
And they want women to play 5 sets. Serena would never lose... 5 sets is a privilege
You can say that again! People just want to try to make it "harder" for Serena 💩💩
This two women have always been more classy than Sharapova. No matter what they say.
sharapova is very classy, wtf are u talking about? ...
you can't say Azarenka is more classy than Sharapova. That's just wrong
alasdairw Neither one of them is.

Vika said all this /herself, after the match.
but how many times has Serena done this?
dozens, if not hundreds, of times ...
Azarenka couldn't do anything. Serena hit winner after winner in the next five games and left Azarenka with no chance.
Adam Larsson I doubt she said something as self depreciating as 'I became a spectator on court. Vika is a massive fighter herself

Serena doesn't just defeat her opponents, she breaks their spirit I'd hate her too, LOL
This was probably Serena’s toughest draw ever!!!

i love how mary jo questioned serena's decision to play singles and doubles there and Serena ends up winning both x)
watching her come back from a sure loss as a big Serena fan. thats a great feeling.
omg what a sharp picture. I've never seen a video this clear. thank you!!!

NOW THIS IS HD!!!! Thanks for the upload!
That was fun. Forgot about this match.
Best tennis highlights I've seen in a while! Agreed with comment below- THIS is how you upload highlights to UA-cam! Awesome
I remember watching this match live thinking Serena would lose for sure. Shame on me! She turned it on and It proved her greatness. It was incredible to watch. By far one her greatest comebacks.
This just proves how you can never think Serena is out of a match
SERENA knocks the racket out of Victoria hands - 12 : 08...
720p is OHHHMYGOODNESS
Simply The Best
azarenka's return is like one of the best on the wta tour
it's always nice to come back to this match
9:08
Its those kind of points and rally's the reason why Vika is the only player in the world who can go toe to toe against Serena!
Great point!
You know Azarenka really respected Serena during the handshake. I think she knew that they both brought out the best of each other in this match.
vika and serena matches are always entertaining
ONE REASON WHY SERENA WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE AZARENKA IS SERVE AND POWER!!
I love at 4.10 when the commentator is like 'or Azarenka is going to play Na Li, who would've thought that?' considering both end up AO champions with multiple final appearances.
serena was so sharp the first week of this Australian. she gutted out the second week at less than her best like a true champ.
one of the all-time classic games of Sarena carrier, even she was not feeling good, she was 0-4 in the second set and come back to the game and win the match.
Hail the QUEEN
What an incredible comeback that only our Queen Serena Williams can make possible!!!
The comments they make about Serena are very pathetic. They want Serena to loose but that would not happen so easily. Yes Nyamusa Because she is a lot stronger than her opponents that she always win.
That final set was scary. At that form nobody can beat her.
oh godness.. she was down 6-4 4-0.. but she's coming back for the winner of this match. wow
That game in the third set where Serena hit three return winners in a row was just awesome
i love me some serena comebacks :)
It is definitely one of the best tie break I've ever seen.
When Serena plays like in this 3rd set it is impossible to stop her. She destinated to win
great quality !!!
its my 22nd time watching this video and im still amazed by serena
THIS IS WHAT SERENA IS ABOUT!! Never giving up and being able to up her level when its important..I also remember watching this in disbelief that at 4-0 in the second set, she came back to win the whole thing...only a champion.....cant wait till she comes back next year!!!
EPIC SHIT.
THIS match is the reason why all Serena/Azarenka encounters since have been Serena domination. Azarenka had 100% belief that she could beat Serena up until this point. Now everytime she plays Serena, she looks like she's going to cry during the match.
I couldn't agree more, i am in all of her, u can NEVER COUNT HER OUT
I LOVE the way Mar Joe has so much confidence in Serena even when she's down, she shut Patrick McEnroe up.
ONE OF HER BEST COMEBACKS
this what you call truly inspirational and true determination. The word "impossible" would be an understandment to what we just saw. ANYTHING is possible. Never give up. Keep on striving and motivating yourself because things change in an instant.
I remember this match...I was freaking out so bad I had to mute the tv because of course the commentators on espn were already counting her out and I just didnt wanna believe it
She finally got in gear and started playing her game and i got to calm down.
Serena doesn't do to Vika what she does to the others and that's commendable 🌟🌟
did you take Serena's injury into account ?
Everyone forgets that Serena was injured this whole tournament, but still won both singles and doubles.
I remember turning off the TV when Serena was down 4-6, 0-4 and I was thinking 'no way can she pull this one out.' Oh, me of little faith... LOL... When I checked the score later, I got a huge (pleasant) surprise.
that's why she's Serena Williams because she's the best ...and no one will change that even azarenka , sharapova , cljisters, henin......
i love how serena play
This match almost made me quit watching tennis…I changed the channel when serena was like down 0-4 , then I said later on let me go back and watch the end of the match like a big boy, and she was in a tiebreaker 😅 I never gave up on her again.
Azarenka was just freezed when Serena hit those amazing winners and aces in final set.
What a comeback! I think Azarenka was shell shocked when Serena suddenly started playing better and hitting winners everywhere.
All of the Serena antics aside she is one of the best female tennis players in history.
Azarenka couldn't do anything to stop the comeback. After being down 6-4 4-0, Williams hit winner after winner and put Azarenka in hopeless situations. By the time the dust cleared it was 5-4 Serena in the 2nd set.
symbolic SERENA !!!
Love you !
I love serena.
queen of comebacks
Do you have the full match? I'd love to see it with the commentary!
@ Donnelle Johnson Amen!
wow what a match
Waouh Serena is really really good
@kljMN2 I do too sometimes because of how well she played, but yeah she tore her hamstring in the Final of Sydney before the AO even started.
Serena use to keep the ball in and placing the ball at the beginning of the match. If it didn't work, then she will release her power and u got no chance to win anymore
Great match,Serena at her best.
azarenka is ranked 1 in the world now! YAY!
Serena you are the best
12:15 Look at the hidden agression behind serenas poker face... Just love her game... shear agression and power game... amazing...!!!
Dang. This is some serious HD.
Azarenka was just amazing!
my goodness girl i do notknow what to say, that last set was like i do not kn ow
horrible loss of composure for Azarenka! but then again, what an AMAZING victory by Rena!
serena makes it looks so easy
Serena what a champion, she owns Azarenka 8-1 now in H2H
Serena rules!
BEST BELIEVE I KNOW ,I'M A RENA FAN FIRST BUT I GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE ,SHE RETURNS VERY WELL IN GENERAL
@mssheltn1 it was Brad Gilbert, the former coach of Roddick and Agassi
I still can't fathom that Serena lost to a player like Makarova 6-2, 6-3 like that in the fourth round! Shocking, really.... I really hope her best days aren't behind her! I want to see at least one more Slam.
I always skip right to 0-4 to watch the real fireworks begin. Azarenka couldn't touch her in the 3rd set! Lol
