Wow...I FINALLY heard it! That guy yelling out, "Come on Justine! She's not that good!" 13:49-13:53 I was like wow...Serena kicked ass from that point on. She heard him and admitted in an interview it just pushed her. I'm like wow...go gurl! Lol
People wanna say all Serena possesses is power, but she is an excellent thinker and strategist. Her mental power is so much stronger than the rest of the women and that is why she is one of the greatest of all time! Look @ 8:45, that's advanced strategic positioning and placement. Critics and commentators don't give her that credit like they do other players, but she is just as smart on court as she is powerful.
I love how Mary Carillo and the crowd was all about Henin only for Serena to prove why she's the best woman on the tour crush their hopes of Henin winning. Serena had had enough of Henin in 2007 and was READY this time..she showed up in shape and with a vengence. Both of these heifers were playing some REAL tennis! I would put Henin as #3 as my all time greats (behind Serena and Venus) she was one hell of a player on the court, but all must bow to the QUEEN! Serena is the GOAT of womens tennis.
And Serena had REAL, consistent competition that had not been STABBED --unlike Steffi who didn't have consistent competition that had not been STABBED! See:Monica Seles!
I love how Henin has small body frame but she sure can push Serena around with placement and craft, it really is too bad Henin isn't around anymore because she always challenged Serena and they produced some dramatic, high-quality tennis because they have contrasting styles
?!? Serena Williams is a player of amazing diversity and finesse! From her accurate serves to her topspin lobs to her drop volleys to her return-of-serve to her passing shots, Serena Williams's versatility and skill are unmatched! And Serena beats Kim overall head-to-head!
This match was so important for Serena to win. She had just come off from all the heat of the 2009 US Open with the outburst incident to Clijsters and allowed her to win her comeback slam. If she had lost to Henin (even more of a rival) to allow her to win her own comeback slam, I feel the loss would've really gotten to Serena. Instead she won, shut up all the critics and carried her form to the 2010 Wimbledon until she had injury... and look at her now.
I loved this match. Serena was wrapped up like a mommy and couldn't really run that well and Justine had just made it to her first slam right after coming out of taking time off and they went in! Serena used a lot of slicing and dicing in this match and I think that threw Justine for a loop. Justine tried to outhit Serena and that wasn't going to work. I'm surprised Justine didn't do more dropshots and slicing given Serena's condition. Awesome match from both ladies.
months? Serena has probably missed close to 2-2 1/2 years total when adding up time off for injuries...she missed 11 months from 2010-2011...she missed about 9 months from 2003-2004 after he knee surgery...she played 4 tournament total in 2006 due to injury...i'm amazing when you think about it that she has been able to start and stop her career and has been dominant for several periods in her career

oooooo SERENA WILLIAMS YOU MAKE MY MY LIFE SO COOL EVERY TIME WHEN I PUT VIDEO ON MY TV YOU ARE MY TRUE LIFE IDOL ......BOSNIA LOVE YOU
Well, there is only one that can beat Serena!!! It's herself!!! Actually, I wish she could maintain her consistency and health. She then will capture a lot more titles from now on.
I hope so too. I think it's coming. The Serena we have seen throughout most of her comeback since mid-2011 would kill 2002-2003 Serena. This Serena is much smarter, and she would put her past self in a state of panic...2002 Serena would probably get frustrated and start double-faulting...not knowing how to handle a million aces coming at HER, for once lol! I think the ultimate proof that Serena is more complete than she used to be is her huge improvement against backboard players.
Justine is the most formidable female tennis player i've ever had the privilege to see. she's truly a mini-federer. a player like her only happens once in a million times. Technically she's easily one of the greatest ever.
the only gap in venus' game was her consistency. venus at her best was pretty much unbeatable and unforgiving. i dont remember what year it was but at the wimbledon final that pit her against her sister, serena played unbelievably well and still lost that match in 2 sets.
Actually, Serena has a lot more diversity due to the experience she has gained with singles and in doubles. She obviously has a great offensive game, but when she is getting pushed, she can play great defense. I mean look at last years US Open. Vika had Serena running around the court, out wide, inside, service line, and Serena hits a lob over. She has a plan B and a lot of diversity, a lot more than what Sharapova has.Sharapova is a hard hitter but bring her to the net and she can't do anything
What you said may have been true ten years ago. Even three years ago but lately Serena has been much more versatile with her shots. But I really don't understand why people are so into looking backward. Serena can beat everyone when she is on. That diversity you mentioned will never be enough against players at Serena's Level.
I would LOVE to see, in some parallel universe, where 2002-2003 Serena goes against 2012-201X Serena. Serena now is definitely a better tennis player all around except for the loss of foot speed. The scoreline would probably be something like 6-4, 6-4 with 2012-201X Serena winning. Not a total knockout because 2002-2003 Serena has the foot speed to chase down almost anything and get almost everything back but the on court game maturity of Serena now would overcome her. Just pointing it out lol.
I agree. Nick Bollettieri tweeted during the FO that Sharapova only knows one way to play: hit the ball as hard as she can. IMO, her 1 dimensional game is what most people mistake as mental toughness. 1) Serena owns her 2) She DF excessively in big matches against top players 3) She's never come back from match point down against a top player 4) She's never defended a slam 5) she's never won more than 1 slam a year and never won a slam the year after winning one. Doesn't imply mental toughness
It is definetely right up to Serena when both players are at their best. Henin was fresh and powerful in 2010 season beginning. Serena was starting to develop the lethal serve she owns now and it is throughout the third set that it becomes obvious. Serena was just too much for Justine afterall
Bonyos16, you are right. Carillo, in the past, was jaw-droppingly bigoted against Serena. Carillo's husband represented Sharapova and Carillo herself would literally SHILL for Sharapova from the broadcast booth and LIE about the accomplishments of the Williams sisters!!
Serena Williams and Justine Henin are two of the greatest female tennis players to EVER play the game. Justine Henin is the only person who had Serena's number from 2007-before Henin temporarily retired. And we know Serena can handle ANYBODY lol. She dismissed Kvitova and Azarenka from Wimbledon like it was her light work lolol. Her serve...and if you can make it past her serve.her forceful groundstrokes.and if you still dont get blown off the court by her raw hitting power she can move well
Serena is the greatest player of all time. The other greatest players sat in the stands at two different Wimbledons with their mouths open at Serena's Williams's awesome display of skill. Serena had a RECORD number of aces she placed on a DIME at those Wimbledons. Serena even hit more aces than the winning MALE tennis player during one of those Wimbledons!
You've got a point. As a matter of fact Serena's mentioned this guy's comment on Elle's show, and said exactly that: that she has used it as motivation! You know what we could do? We could go there every slam final or semifinal and scream "Come on (whoever), she's not that good!!!!" hahahaha :-D
Serena wants to win every match........she wants not just to win but beat her opponents bad! If we don't have players like Serena then professional tennis would be just money making beauty contest. Go Serena!!
You cannot say that Henin is mentally tough when Serena came back from matches where her opponents had match points. Henin only manage to defeat Serena because Serena's not at 100%. A 100% Serena will destroy Henin any time.
lol i would be intimidated to play against anyone of these two serena with her blistering serves and come ons and henins explosive movement trying to hit winners past that women is tough this two are pound for pound the best womens players of their generation and all time greats
She may have won one more slam in 02, but 2012 Serena (which will hopefully become a 2012 and beyond Serena), is the most complete Serena ever. She may be a STEP slower than over 10 years ago, but every other aspect of her game is better. It's really amazing to watch. Her backhand is about the same, but her serve and forehand are leagues better. Some try to chalk this improvement up to technology and not hard work from Serena, which is complete bullshit. Serena is in her ultimate prime now.
How do you get HD? Such a beautiful picture. My aunt has HD cam, but put my vdz on disc first. I think that's my problem, but don't know how to use her cam I guess. Wonderful video! Thank you!
"Mary Carrilo is biased" Most American commentators are. When Sabine Lisicki beat Serena at Wimbledon she didn't get much credit for it, it was all about what Serena didn't do.
This was the sweetest victory for Serena especially after RG2004 ..so happy for her, Serena's the best of her generation, Henin & Clijsters doesn't come close!
Everybody's entitled to their opinions, but Justin henin never dominated the tennis whereas serena williams dominated tennis (women) in the last decade. that despite her fitness, illness and family problems. To those who says Henin is more technical you just stating your opinions rather than facts. Henin has sublime backhand, serena has sublime forehand, they're both good a drop shots although serena decreasingly use of that. they both good at spinning the ball, or changing the pace.
where has justine gone. back when I was a kid she was the number 1 and ppl talking about she had the potential to become goat. where is she at now what happened?
whooaaaaaa Calm down. Serena is my number 1 fav of all time. I dont remember what I said but it was giving justine a complement on the 2 great parts of her game. it was never to say that she was better than serena.
Yeah you're right. If you break down the last 15 years or so of womens tennis, these two are at the top, which is why this Grand Slam Final was LONG overdue.
You clearly don't know tennis, because Serena's technique is textbook both on her serve and return of serve. Why you think Henin is more talented than someone that has won 16 majors is beyone comprehension.
There are many cases for Serena as GOAT but THANK YOU CHRIS FOWLER FOR THAT LAST STATISTIC S.Williams better winning % at Slam Finals than.... S.Graff R.Federer C.Evert M.Navratilova Oh not to mention 100% in doubles finals (13/13)
All things being equal, that is if they were born and playing in the same era, be it the 60's, 80's, 90's or now its pretty hard to split Graf and Serena. I think they are the best players to pick up a racquet. Their superior athleticism and puts them on top.
I AGREE WITH WHAT EVERYONE OUT THERE SAY, SERENA WILLIAMS IS THE GREATEST TENNIS PLAYER OF ALL TIME. SHE FACED UNFAIRNESS RACISM CRITICS INJURIES, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY? SHE ALWAS CAME BACK STRONGER. THATS DEFINE THE GREATEST N THE BEST. TOO BAD VEE HAS THAT BONE DISEASE, SHE WOULD HAVE WON MORE GS BY NOW TOO
Ok give her some credit she MADE alot of them look bad. Not like Evert was beating clay court greats the whole way through her 7 titles. Steffi probably had the most clay competition of all...Seles and Sanchez-Vicario were enough....the problem is that Seles for obvious reasons was only a problem for a couple years (and it was definitely supposed to be more). Even still, Steffi had the most. The fact that Justine is the main reason Serena is not a multi-FO champion already speaks for itself.
Steffi Graf also benefitted from Monica Seles getting stabbed let's not act like this wasn't an important factor for Graf's inflated slam record of 22. If Monica did NOT get stabbed 20 years ago I firmly believe their slam count would have been much closer. The WTA lacked depth in the 1990s it was a joke from 1993 to 1996 it was Graf and the seven dwarfs. I remember Martina Navratilova criticizing Sanchez Vicario, Sabatini, Novotna, Martinez, Mary Joe Fernandez they lacked the power to beat Graf
It's not my word, it's Billie Jean King's word. Learn tennis sweetie! Also, just a reminding : "Justine is the player I most like to watch" - John McEnroe Henin's offense is just phenomenal ... it's sort of like we've got 'the female Federer', or maybe the guys have 'the male Justine Henin', because she is just head and shoulders above everyone else right now." - Martina Navratilova. I hope, I helped you to learn tennis a little bit. :))))))))))))))))))))
I agree. But seriously, the fact that you can even compare players like (and you can't in eras past) helps to prove even further that women's tennis is more competitive than it has ever been. Yes a couple unworthy people snuck in a slam win or two in this era, but I'd put them above those that did so in previous eras. In the past, you could never break down rivals' games this way and have them come up this close to even.
Let's be honest people, Serena HATED Justine, but this match was honestly one of their best in their rivalry. They only had 2, three-set matches on Hard court, once in Miami and this match, so even though I'm not a Serena fan, I still have to tip my hat to her for winning this match cause it was a great match from top to finish and the shade that it caused was one of the craziest.
because that was a break point and justine had it on the bag but the point had to be replayed because of that miscall. serena aced justine and held her service instead so the crowd felt like justine was screwed over by that line judge and she was
Carillo has gotten better of late. But that is mainly, I think, because Serena kept winning despite gargantuan obstacles. It will take a lot more objectivity from her-- for a change-- to overcome some of the brazenly bigoted negativity toward the Williamses earlier, though.
? She's no. 4 and climbing.... She started before Justine, and she's still here, unlike Justine. I actually think Serena has about 4-5 more years on tour than Justine (not counting the many months missed due to injury). So it is probably you who needs to get it straight.
Justine's game is prettier to watch, though her shot selection at times make you want to scratch your head. I saw this game live on TV and remember thinking why on earth she insists on going with high risk tennis and kept coming forward when Serena was killing her on the pass. I like Justine's footwork and enjoys her flashes of brilliance, but she has serious inconsistencies in her game. Throughout the course of a set, she at one game can be otherworldly yet at the next a pedestrian.
why r u ppl fighting over who is better.. They both are great, though my personal fav is Henin. There is such beauty in her shots and when she is in control hardly any1 can beat her.. So sad she had to retire due to illness.. :(
I honestly believe Post Fo Rena is better than shes EVER been. Technically even more sound, and the forehand is more deadly with more variety, she actually hits it differently, different follow throughs, is she possibly mentally tougher than ever too? Shes Injury free with her biggest schedule since 02. Shes enjoying practicing and she is playing smarter. Oh and The Serve since 2010 has been stronger than ever. I think All her H2H's would have been re-written in this form. Honestly!
?! Serena won everything on clay Last Year except the French Open before she even took on Patrick as coach! And Serena won the French Open back when her parents were her only coaches! And anyone who watched Serena's gorgeous topspin lob, etc. when she beat Steffi Graf at Indian Wells (when Serena was Just 17 years-old) knows that Serena has Always been "complete!"
Mary Carrilo is biased and it's shame she is an American commentator by merits of resume but if you asked she shouldn't be allowed to comment on any game Serena in.
it's a shame henin is gone now, but here serena proved again that she was better. wish henin was around in 2012 to see how she would handle this version of serena lool
and Billie said repeatedly that Serena is on the cusp of being that greatest female to EVER play the game...Justine if good, and in a lot of way I think for her size and athletic ability, she almost over achieved, but nobody with any type of sense thinks that Justine is a better player than Serena Williams...Justine is on the level with Venus...at least Justine didn't quit like Hingis...she realized that to beat the WS she has to expand her game and she did that beautifully
Venus and Justine were such great players especially Serena... Sharapova has 4 slams now... Justine and Venus both have 7... it looks like Sharapova will win at least 8.. because she's still young and is playing very well.... once she passes Venus and Justine would people see her as the better player because she won more slams than both Venus and Justine?
Wow...I FINALLY heard it! That guy yelling out, "Come on Justine! She's not that good!" 13:49-13:53 I was like wow...Serena kicked ass from that point on. She heard him and admitted in an interview it just pushed her. I'm like wow...go gurl! Lol
Henin's backhand is just sublime
People wanna say all Serena possesses is power, but she is an excellent thinker and strategist. Her mental power is so much stronger than the rest of the women and that is why she is one of the greatest of all time! Look @ 8:45, that's advanced strategic positioning and placement. Critics and commentators don't give her that credit like they do other players, but she is just as smart on court as she is powerful.
13:50 someone says "come on Justine she's not that good!" THAT my friends is when justine lost the match!
perfect example of serena's mental toughness love her!
Wow, I cannot believe you just said that. Mentally, Serena is one of the toughest athletes ever.
amazing match between the best server and best single-backhander in women's tennis.. i hope to watch them in an exhibition match...

Serena Williams IS tennis.
Agreed...didn't really notice the FH grip change though. It was only obvious that something had been done to get it more consistent.
Funny how Serena was severely injured throughout this entire tournament and still won it....
If Justine came back, she wouldn't be able to beat on-fire Serena right now!!!!

This is 2000s classics - Henin vs SW, Henin vs Cljisters, Clijsters vs SW plus Venus' matches with the Belgians.
Too bad this is the only time they met in Justine's comeback!

Also, just a reminding : "Justine is the player I most like to watch" - John McEnroe
Henin's offense is just phenomenal ... it's sort of like we've got 'the female Federer', or maybe the guys have 'the male Justine Henin', because she is just head and shoulders above everyone else right now." - Martina Navratilova.
I hope, I helped you to learn tennis a little bit. :))))))))))))))))))))
Serena is the best ever , she is the greatest .
What forehand grip does Serena use? ?
Let's be honest people, Serena HATED Justine, but this match was honestly one of their best in their rivalry. They only had 2, three-set matches on Hard court, once in Miami and this match, so even though I'm not a Serena fan, I still have to tip my hat to her for winning this match cause it was a great match from top to finish and the shade that it caused was one of the craziest.
Does the person know you replied to him on youtube 1 month ago while it was shouted in the stands in 2010?
because that was a break point and justine had it on the bag but the point had to be replayed because of that miscall. serena aced justine and held her service instead so the crowd felt like justine was screwed over by that line judge and she was
Carillo has gotten better of late.
EXACTLY
serena shrieks an awful lot too
What did Mary Carillo say about Serena's sister?
Mary Carrilo is biased and it's shame she is an American commentator by merits of resume but if you asked she shouldn't be allowed to comment on any game Serena in.
Remember Serena but her back in retirement
god i miss henin, she was the only player who could really challenge serena
Unless you didnt realize serena's feet was hurting. A lot of point that just hit she didnt chase when she clearly could have chase at good times.
SERENA WILLIAMS IS THE GREATEST WOMENS TENNIS PLAYER OF ALL TIME
it's a shame henin is gone now, but here serena proved again that she was better. wish henin was around in 2012 to see how she would handle this version of serena lool
Henin has a better volley than Serena.
i didnt like how serena hit her forehand during this grand slam .
and Billie said repeatedly that Serena is on the cusp of being that greatest female to EVER play the game...Justine if good, and in a lot of way I think for her size and athletic ability, she almost over achieved, but nobody with any type of sense thinks that Justine is a better player than Serena Williams...Justine is on the level with Venus...at least Justine didn't quit like Hingis...she realized that to beat the WS she has to expand her game and she did that beautifully
