This was a great video. It was my first time replacing a key fob battery. You explained each step very well, right down to the angle used with the key to pry against the center piece. Took a couple tries to get the old and new batteries to behave, and also a few tries of this not-so-handywoman to get the emergency key to do its thing, but I'm pleased that I was finally able to complete the job!

I've had a problem with the buttons falling out when the case was opened. I prevented this by placing painter's tape over the front of the fob prior to opening it. This kept the keys in position and made it much easier.

Thank you! I looked at a few videos and this has the clearest explanation. The others that I looked at used a screwdriver to open the remote key. I didn't want to damage the key. Using a screwdriver would have left scratches along the seam.

Thanks for the tutorial! How long should a battery typically last? I bought my 2021 used last June, and the batteries in BOTH keys have died- one in December and the second one in February.

the battery life of key fobs varies quite a bit, even on the same year make and model of vehicle. 6-8 months is on the shorter side in general. The alternative to keep changing the fob batteries would be to try to replace the key fobs themselves - which may or may not help and would be fairly expensive.

It depends... My Ford FOBS have usually lasted 5-6 years. My Acura MDX only lasted 2-1/2 years. The nice thing is, the car will tell you when it needs to be replaced. Don't replace the battery (ies) until required.

Thanks for reminding me. I think it is etched now. I just replaced both batteries, one in the Acura RDX and one in the Porsche 911 which was far easier to replace. Note: don't buy cheap button cells. I tested both the recently replaced one-week old el-cheapos to the Panasonic CR 2032. The needle went far further up the scale wth the Panasonic battery.

Great video but I will add to be careful that there are the 4 little silver plastic pieces and a lock/unlock/hold plastic spacer that can easily slip out of place. LOUSY design for the buttons!

if you are sure the new battery is goo and installed properly then there may just be an issue with the fob itself that will require replacement
