BG Music:
Billy Squier never hit the top 10 on the singles chart, but he had about half a dozen LEGIT songs that are #1 quality. It's one of those mysteries of life.
All of the songs were great, that’s hard to believe
Bill ...u sure? Well these songs must have came pretty close....and who cares about charts
Very underrated and under appreciated.
@@michaelasay8587 I grew up listening to Casey Kasem, so it was always a big deal to me. You're right, though. As long as we can listen to the songs, it doesn't really matter. He only had 4 top 40 hits. They peaked at 17, 35, 32 & 15. He did hit #1 on the mainstream rock chart a few times. Just not on the official Hot 100 singles chart.
@@BillGraper heya yea I grew up listening to the top 40 every week on the radio....I was obsessed with it. Well it was fun because I love music. Hey tell me you love the #1 Karen Carpenter! The only good thing my parents did for us was take us to see them in 1973 in Sacramento!
There is something about Lexi's smile from the beginning to the end of songs that just draws you in and makes you wish you were lucky enough to be Brad. And those freckles, oh my God!!
For a very brief two or three-album window, Billy Squire could do no wrong. One of the best, forgotten artists. (Forgotten by the mainstream but not by us in the eighties)
stroke me lol😜🤪
Until he made a video that ended it all.
Sad cause he had a heck of a lot of talent
Possibly the greatest rock vocalist
@@andreadeamon6419 Rock Me Tonight was his best video. He busted some serious moves in his white pants and pink tanktop.
@@nonplayerzealot4 i love that song. He has some great ones!!
Billy was the man 👍 so underrated, it's a shame what the recording industry did to him 😥
Played that record about 4,000 times. Still sounds great. Nothing but hits on that one. Great choice, kids!
Billy Squier is one of the best rock artists of the 80's - you could hardly turn on the radio without hearing one of his songs. ***Why are they in the dark?*** 😆 So funny! I never thought about it at the time. Probably bc I was in 8th grade 🤨😜
i was in 8th grade too. i never thought about it either. good song he opened with it on tour with queen on their hot space tour.
This song reminds me of being at the rollerskating rink when I was a teen
me too
Big time!
It's an All-Skate people - everyone hit the floor!
@@wickedmirage lol
Omg me too😀😀
Billy Squier was awesome.
A thousand years from now I still won't be remotely close to being sick of this song.
You're child is absorbing this awesomeness and will be eternally grateful.
you will be dead but I get you
Was there anyone in the 80's that rocked it better than Billy? Great artist. He takes me back like noone else.
This is such a great song…
You two have more charisma than about anyone doing reactions. 😃
Early Billy Squire was so perfect to take us into a post Zeppelin Areana Rock Era... and the Big Hair 80's... right in my wheel house...thumbs up for another good reaction, thanks guys, thumbs up!
I kinda felt like he was equal parts Led Zeppelin and Eddie Money.
A lot of people think that one bad music video ended his career but that could not be further from the truth. I'm tired of people only remembering that one moment in time. He walked away from the mainstream crap business. Billy has a lot of Awesome songs and is an extremely talented musician. Billy has so many of his songs sampled by others that he doesn't have to work if he doesn't want to. That makes him a "Boss" in my mind!!! He will always be Awesome in my mind!! His music will always live inside of me. I love you Billy!
RIP Bobby! You were a kick ass drummer!! You will never be forgotten!! 🙏❤
I saw Billy Squier in concert twice back in the early '80s. The first time, he was opening for Pat Benatar. My friend and I never heard of him. The second time was just a couple months later when he opened for Foreigner. My friend and I knew every song! Good times.
I think this song is about being famous and lonely. Wanting a relationship but having to be guarded unless it becomes ugly and pubic. You are left with no choices and are left suffering, in the dark. No one notices your pain.
I get it from these verses:
The lonely person speaking about themselves in 3rd person
**Life isn't easy from the singular side**
**Down in the hole some emotions are hard to hide**
The desire to find love but the doubts that plague your mind, telling you that you never will
**You never listen to the voices inside**
**They fill your ears as you run to a place to hide**
Found someone special, and you want to start a secrete relationship, very hopeful
**Can you break away from your alibies**
**Can you make a play, will you meet me in the dark**
being rejected
**You take no interest, no opinion's to dear**
having relations with people you do not care for.
**You make the rounds and you try to be so sincere**
giving up on real love
**You guard your hopes and you pocket your dreams**
you would trade all the fame for a real love and your fearful of this success ending your life (overdose maybe)
**You'd trade it all to avoid an unpleasant scene**
The "In the dark" is first done 3 times, then 5 and lastly 8. A ", ah ah ah ah" is added to the last "in the dark" of the second and third chorus giving it a sense of falling. I think this was to show one falling into despair.
Billy "Stroke"d his way onto the scene with a high energy and a little bit different sound. The Stroke might be his most famous tune and might be worth a listen. Nice reaction
Thanks for your reaction! All of Billy Squire's music was sexy even when there was an underlying theme that was serious so you could say his songs had double meanings. A good example of this that you will want to recheck out is his hit "The Stroke" (I know you reacted to it before with the lyrics) as it was a strong statement about how he felt about record producers that had a vibe like well you know. He was a big hit with the ladies and was sexy on stage but his music was such a rock vibe that men and women liked him. I saw him in concert 4 times with the women I went to college with.
i was in high school in 1982 when i heard the song and i still play it at least 4 times a week CAN'T GET ENOUGH of this song.
My favorite song off an album with a ton of great songs.
Saw Billy Squier in concert back in the mid-1980's when he co-headlined with .38 Special.
He did an amazing live performance.
My fav Billy song! Shreds!
Great song
Billy Squier is a very underrated player. I like his music because it wasn't exactly rock and it wasn't exactly techno pop it was a combination of the two with great power chords a killer guitar riffs.
Love this and lonely is the night...Billy rocks
My favourite Billy Squier tune. This always used to come on FM rock radio when I would travel through the night to meet my wife on Saturday mornings during a time in my life when we were briefly separated so I could work a job that would help us save enough money to move off our University campus into a flat. At the time, though, we were also crazy in love, so more or less the instant I was off work on Friday, I’d drive home, throw a few changes of clothing and basic toiletries into a duffel, take a shower, change into my road trip gear, pop a pair of extended-release Dexedrine capsules, hop into the car, buy a bottle of Scotch for me and gin for my old lady, then fly out of town as twilight set in. Once it got past 11:30 or so and I was on the interstate, far between the nearest towns, this song and-more often than not-Golden Earring’s ‘Twilight Zone’ would play; I’d light a cigarette, crank the window down, and put the pedal to the floor. I’d usually make the 8-hour trip in 6, so she was still sleeping when I’d arrive. However, I could climb up the side of the building, and she’d leave her third-floor window cracked for me. She used to love when I’d sneak into her bedroom, crawl into bed with her, and kiss her awake. ‘You smell like leather and smoke and your hair,’ she’d say, slowly opening her eyes and brushing my shoulder-length hair back from my face.
I think those were the happiest days of my life. Could never do that now; even if I weren’t old and not so attractive, it would be too easy for some mad bird to call me a r@p!st if we had an argument later, especially if anyone saw me climbing the tree. Romance is dead, beheaded, and buried.
Yesssss, great song!
Billy was classic hard rock that metalheads weren't afraid to admit they liked. Saw him open for Def Leppard in the early 80s. He's a very underrated guitarist.
I agree. I saw him open for Pat Benatar in Providence. Awesome show by both performers . . .
Billy Squire has always been one of my favorites from the 80's. Best decade to be a teen 😉
Listening to Billy Squier transports me right back to school. Love him.
I always took the song to be that when we are away from the bright lights of fame will you love me for who I am.
Probably one of my favorites from Squier, but he has so many awesome songs!
Rock Me Tonight is Billy's greatest video performance. Excellent costuming and dancing.
sadly that ended his career
I was at one of Billy Suiers concert one time and he opened for Foreigner. well Billy Rocked it it was NYC at the Garden 1982. he was like Led Zeppelin. Foreigner eventually comes out and we fell asleep with their waiting for a girl like you soft ballad songs.
Seen him in concert with Bad Company and STYX in Reno Nevada in 2001 for my 40th Birthday !! Great concert 🎶🍄🍻🤘🤪🤘
Billy Squier Album was amazing 🔥🎶🎵🎸
Glad you finally played this song, probably my favorite Billy Squier.
He was so cool in the 80s.
Still one of my fav's such a talent!!!👍🎸✌
same, you have good taste
It is sad that Billy's career was cut short by the egos of megalomaniac producers. He was a great artist. Thanks for reacting to him.
Ya those producers didn't stop him from making that Rock Me Tonight video because THAT is what ended his career. Society wasn't ready for that yet and he took so much heat then that he was never looked at the same again and he faded fast after that. I liked his music back in high school but that video was so cringe back during the infancy of MTV. Today is a different world.
@@JRcomments 1000% right
@@JRcomments yes today you prance around like a half a fanook and nobody bats an eye
@@dickcnormis1444 I have no idea what that means, but I bet it's hilarious.
His career was cut short because he crawled sexually across the bed like a girl in a pink tank top. Totally unacceptable for a hard rocker in the '80s!
How can you not love Billy Squier I bought this album and played it so much, his music was so good and rocking, this was cruising music playing loud and , riding round with windows down . and enjoying it.
My favorite Billy Squier song!
Billy is one of the Best Solo Artists ever in Rock he had his own sound & so Many Great Songs!
Love Billy. So many great catchy tunes.
I always appreciate your deep views on these songs. Billy Squire rarely gets reacted to so I'm really glad you're giving him a listen. I also recommend, "My Kind of Lover" and "Lonely is the Night."
Another Youth Packed Punch from Yesteryear
I was old enough to recognize my neighbor gave me tingles
Acne became my Hell
I kissed a girl that wasn't from my school
My buddy's older brother took up for me at the skating ring
What a time to be young
Thank you Billy Squier
I saw Billy Squier when his band Piper was the opening band for KISS in Atlanta December 30,1977.
When I was a teenager my little hometown used to have something called the Hospital Lawn Party. Rides, carnies, games. I won an album on a game by "Piper" who I had never heard of. Squier was the lead singer/guitarist. it was cool, and soon after this album was HUGE. I said..hey..thats the same guy!!
Good song and reaction
Nice story - thanks for sharing it.
Whoever he's singing to has a reputation to uphold.
He was awesome
Lex has such a beautiful and infectious smile!!
Oh, I just loved this song and album when it came out. This song and "Nobody Knows" were my go to songs when I was feeling some kind of way.
If you were born in the 80s there is a 12% chance that Billy Squier is your father.
Don't Say No was and still is a relevant album today. I toasted so my copies of this cassette in high school. Great memories.
I still have his albums. Great singer! IMO
Squire had some great tunes.
Hey guys what's up! This album was huge when I was in 10th Grade. Billy squier's videos were all over MTV. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
Saw Billy twice in the eighties.
Once as the headline act & the other he opened for Queen.
I saw these guys at Mountain Air 81 with Journey they put on a great show I'd highly recommend seeing them if they ever tour again
Love Billy .... what a jam!
Yeah I remember he got a decent amount of radio play for a while after the Don't Say No album came out. No number ones, but three songs that hit the charts.
His best song, always thought it could fit on Physical Graffiti.
The dark is reality everything else is a illusion. That's the meaning I get.
His best song for sure and my favorite and let's not forget that's him on the guitar just a genius of an artist he was.Keep up the great reviews guys!!
Billy Squier was great! such an underrated talent! I even loved his Christmas song
This is the song back in '81 (not saying that's when it came out) but it is the first song I heard by him and loved it... I think The Stroke was the hit on the radio from the album but this is the first Song I heard of his
Saw Billy Squire during his Emotions in Motion tour in '83. Nazarath was the opening act. A lot of people didn't stick around for Billy. They missed *out*!
He opened for the Queen concert I saw in Detroit
Emotions in Motion is a great one by him.
Maestro Fresh Wes - Let Your Backbone Slide
So glad you finally discovered his dark side.
Great concert in early 80's meadowlands
🤘🤘 I don't care, I never stopped liking him"....
Got to see him twice back in the eighties always a great live show
Love this one!
he really put out some great music. he was Competing with some tough music bands back then!
Absolutely brilliant! One of the most under rated artists of all time! Lex hit it on the head there as usual. I can't help but think that Brad should be watching Lex during these reaction videos.
Not too many people know this but Billy did a song with Freddie Mercury called “ lady with a tenor sax”
Always great to hear more Billy Squier. He may only have been the 3rd-best artist of that time with those initials (behind Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger), but he still rocked.
Just a reminder that when you do "Rock Me Tonite", don't do a lyric video. You want the official video for that. Trust me.
(giggles uncontrollably…)
lmao, you're evil. I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE that video, it's gold. I did always find it funny that people made such a big deal out of it, because at the time if any number of other singers did the same video, it would have been a smash lol. But I would kill for them to react to it for sure.
My take is that when you turn out the lights at the end of the day and lay your head down, are you lonely in the dark. Great artist. Loved his music as a kid. To bad that one video ruined his career.
Nice.
Lex…. You are a cutie.
Brad, if she’s yours you’re lucky.
Rock on!!❤
you guys are up for anything
Hello Susan
How are you doing?
It's nice to have you here!
I used to blare this on my car stereo!
Hello Tammy
How are you doing?
It's nice to have you here!
have`nt heard this in years , forgot just how good it is !
So many memories associated with Billy Squire, especially losing my V card to this album. "Don't Say No"? 🤷♀️😉😀
I love the song he did for the soundtrack of Fastimes at Ridgemont High: 'Best Years of Our Lives'. And I know that folks make fun of him for 'Rock Me Tonight' but I bought the vinyl 45 of that song when new. And those John Bonham drum sounds in 'Lonely Is The Night'!
Rock me Tonight was more than being made fun of. It destroyed his career.
Bobby Chouinard was pretty awesome. He is missed.
@@argonwheatbelly637 I agree wholeheartedly!!! RIP Bobby!!
SHE'S A RUNNER & DON'T LET ME GO are 2 kick-ass Squier tracks w/howlin' vocals
Nice ! Pat Travers - Dedication is really good !
Billy Squier is a bit unique, in that he took some of that late 70s 'arena' hard rock style and infused it with early synth sounds successfully too. A great vocalist too, in my opinion.
In the dark is all about having a side piece.
My high school years.
Awesome album
Check out Love is the Hero by Billy Squier--the version with a beginning introduction by Freddie Mercury-(42 seconds of amazing vocal magic).
The music for this reminds me a lot of the Scorpions, kind of a standard hard guitar rock sound so typical of that era-but Squier breaks it down, gives it a mellow verse, adds some synth, and makes it something more complex.
I seen this guy with the band Journey with these two ladies from high-school with one girl way hotter than the other.
Another good song by billy squier you might like is "Fall for Love."
Starting song ideas for tonight's stream:
Killing Joke "Eighties" (iconic band that fans of everything from new wave to thrash metal could appreciate. Nirvana had a hit by ripping this off)
Diamond Head "Am I Evil?" (You guys did the Metallica version, now hear the original. They were like if Led Zeppelin played early Metallica, but be careful as there are 3 different studio versions of this, and multiple bad remasters. The best version is has a blue background in the thumbnail, with a skull)
Joan Baez "Diamonds And Rust" (folk queen who had a very serious relationship with Bob Dylan)
I'll give you a like for just mentioning Killing Joke lol. Also, not sure if you knew this but Metallica did a cover of Killing Joke - The Wait on 1987's Garage Days Re-Revisited album. But yeah, Eighties was a great song.
@@g4m3rm0j0 That's actually how I became aware of KJ. Their covers and constant name-dropping of their influences led me down a rabbit hole of awesome bands.
check out billy's rock me tonite video... the pinnacle of his career... literally
Try - she’s a runner , lonely is the night. Billy is bad ass..
Stroke me Stroke me!
