Haunted House Automata

- The original Haunted House Automata, this has taken me nearly a year to build, all completely from scratch. Everything inside the room is 3d printed (apart from the ceiling light) and much of the mechanism is 3D printed too. It has 3 computers, 3 smoke machines (also 3D printed), 27 servos, 60 LEDs and 3000 lines of code. It's based on a 1940's haunted house working model by Bolland but mine is a lot more complicated and around a third of the size. I'd love to know what you think
That is the coolest thing I've ever seen, a vintage concept with a modern upgrade. Fantastic work. If you decide to build more, I would certainly be interested.

I cannot express to you how much I love this. Everything about it gives me warm feelings of nostalgia. It is absolutely perfect. The quality and time you put into it is evident and exceptional. I certainly hope you have an etsy account, you could and should start your own business. Absolutely brilliant. I for one would absolutely love one of these. I don't wear hats, but if I did, I'd be tipping it to you Sir!
Thank you so much, yes, the nostalgia thing was really important for me when building this, I absolutely loved the original machines and the only way of owning one was to build my own. As I've mentioned to a couple of people on here I'm looking in to a small run of these, would that potentially interest you? 😊
@@MrKieronrose I would absolutely be interested; however I'd probably have to save up for it. I am a single mom taking care of my disabled son and mother, and starting school in just over a week. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have my license and have found a job to supplement my income. I'd love to stay in contact with you. Thank you Kieron, I always loved these machines when I was a kid in the 1960's and when I showed my grandchildren your wonderful video they were totally captivated, scared, spooked, excited for what comes next and laughing madly with each other. This is fantastic. Brought back some childhood memories from what I saw at the Madame Tussaud’s in London around the mid-80s.
Is there a name to this specific genre of automata?
Thank you so much, that's really really kind of you to say. I remember Madame Tussauds in the 80's too, kind of creepy. It's based on a Bolland's working model, if you do a search for that you'll find lots of the original versions of this type of machine, they're a lot cruder and more basic than this in some ways but wonderful due to their simplicity 👍

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you like it, I had a lot of fun working on it (and some very frustrating times too 🤗) The machine runs on two Arduinos and a Pololu Maestro so three, small computers
@@MrKieronrose If you wrote down all the solutions to your struggles in this project. Then your frustrations are transformed into accomplishments and a gain of knowledge. I understand why you chose pololu. It has a really simple way to animate movements with a GUI with sliders and speed setting and such. Can't believe it's already two years!

Hi Andy, thanks for your kind words. It wouldn't have been this one you saw as it's never been publicly displayed (apart from the video) but you may have seen an original version of the machine which is much bigger and has a much simpler mechanism. If you search for Bollands haunted house on UA-cam you may be able to find one like the one you saw 👍

Hi there, I only bought my first 3d printer (and ender 3 pro) about 3 months before starting this project, it's a lot easier (and more affordable) to get started than you might think, give it a try.
