- Unstable weather and heavy rain overtook parts of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday April 16, flooding some streets and stalling traffic in Dubai. Police issued a public safety advisory alerting residents to the adverse weather conditions early on Monday April 15. The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) stated that from Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday morning (April 17), another wave of unstable weather was expected to begin from Western areas and spread across scattered areas of the country.

The responsible weather authority in the United Arab Emirates, the “National Center for Meteorology”, admitted that it had “vaccinated” the clouds over the desert with silver iodide seven times on Sunday and Monday. The biggest rain since weather records began 75 years ago followed on Tuesday.
At Dubai Airport, 142 millimeters of rain per square meter fell in 24 hours - 50 percent more than usual in a whole year. For the entire month of April, the long-term average is eight millimeters. The Emirates are among the driest regions in the world.
The storm caused huge chaos. Thousands of passengers were stranded at the airport and masses of water surrounded cars on the streets. More than 20 people were killed. During “cloud seeding,” silver iodide is sprayed into the clouds using airplanes or rockets so that they rain down. In Germany this is still often referred to as a conspiracy theory.

The ground is that hard baked that any amount of water just runs over it. My sister and her husband lived in Oman for 4 years and told me such occasional torrents would happen like that.

Storm and drainage system is one of the less priority in the Middle East. Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Oman are just examples of metropolis that ignore investments in the storm drainage infrastructure.
