The true story of a prominent psychiatrist, his young patient, and the past-life therapy that changed both their lives. As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the space between lives, which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss' family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from "the space between lives," which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss's family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
A graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School, Brian L. Weiss M.D. is Chairman Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami.
Dr. Weiss maintains a private practice in Miami. In addition, Dr. Weiss conducts national and international seminars and experiential workshops as well as training programs for professionals.
According to Weiss, in 1980, one of his patients, "Catherine", began discussing past-life experiences under hypnosis. Weiss did not believe in reincarnation at the time, but after confirming elements of Catherine's stories through public records, came to be convinced of the survival of an element of the human personality after death. Dr. Weiss was astonished and skeptical when Catherine began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from her spirit guide/Master who made remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss’s family and his dead son. Weiss claims he has regressed more than 4,000 patients since 1980.
Weiss advocates hypnotic regression as therapy, claiming that many phobias and ailments are rooted in past-life experiences whose acknowledgement by the patient can have a curative effect. Weiss also writes about messages received from the "Masters", or "super-evolved, nonphysical souls", he claims to have communicated with through his subjects. Weiss holds workshops and seminars across the United States that explain and teach self-regression meditation techniques.
Weiss graduated from Columbia University in 1966, and later graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine in 1970, completing an internship in internal medicine at the New York University Medical Center, then returning to Yale for a two-year residency in psychiatry. He went on to become Head of Psychiatry, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami
Past life regression (PLR), Past life therapy (PLT), regression or memory regression is a method that uses hypnosis to recover what practitioners believe are memories of past lives or incarnations. The practice is widely considered discredited and unscientific by medical practitioners, and experts generally regard claims of recovered memories of past lives as fantasies or delusions or a type of confabulation. Past-life regression is typically undertaken either in pursuit of a spiritual experience, or in a psychotherapeutic setting. Most advocates loosely adhere to beliefs about reincarnation, though religious traditions that incorporate reincarnation generally do not include the idea of repressed memories of past lives.
The technique used during past-life regression involves the subject answering a series of questions while hypnotized to reveal identity and events of alleged past lives, a method similar to that used in recovered memory therapy and one that, similarly, often misrepresents recovered memories as faithful recordings of previous events rather than constructed sets of recollections.

Thank you for making this available. I read this book in the early 2000's and to have an audiobook to listen to now is awesome. Different aspects of the story stand out now as opposed to 22+ years ago when I read it as a young person in my late 20's early 30's.

I've been on a healing and spiritual journey for a few years now. I haven't looked up anything that would have caused this to just pop up on my feed here on YT. I'm glad it did though as I have always wondered about these things and have in the last year thought to find a therapist to do this very thing. I appreciate you sharing this book. I hope there will be more. Thank you.

In 2024, I’ve not been able to locate a psychiatrist who does anything more than have patients fill out questionnaires, prescribe meds, and schedule follow up appts to see if patient feels better or worse after taking meds. They no longer seem to have any interest (or perhaps ability) to offer talk therapy. I’ve begun to wonder if this is emphasized in psychiatric Med school training? I think not. Sadly, I think making a lot of money is more important to most psychiatrists than being healers. I wonder if others of you have thoughts on this?

I was fortunate to attend one of his Omega Institute workshops & show him my Tracfone with a call from Sunday January 1 2006 ✨ the phone wasn’t in existence until 2013 when my father died & a friend gave it to me that December on my return from studying @ Arthur Findlay College for physical mediumship in the UK. Dad immediately began using it to contact me. In 2006 I had given him 85 purple 💜 stamps for his birthday & found one left in a photo frame after he passed. He began to use that year plus Purple Hearts as well as flowers, lights & many other things to make his presence known but always with much love

I have been getting some interesting insights while listening to this book. I think that for each of us, as we evolve in the deepest levels of our souls, we are put through a lot of extreme experiences. To become the loving beings we are meant to be. Finally, I think, to not have to incarnate again. We then begin to help others in any way that uses our unique gifts. At times choosing to reincarnate to do so.

@@jlp5137 let's say she can recall past lives and access other dimensions, pretty sure a little math and date conversion would come simply and wouldnt be in the top 5 difficult parts of her recollection here 😂
If you're skeptical that's fair enough, but that's a very modern and limited excuse to be skeptical, given the realm of shit we are talking about.

I have no problem with the concept of reincarnation, indeed there is very strong evidence, so I have begun listening to this book with a very open mind. However, I am puzzled how, in Chapters 2 and 3, the subject tells of being alive in three periods B.C.E , e.g. 1863 B.C.E. Can someone explain to me how someone living at that time could speak of this time in reference to a future event, i.e. the commonly dated period after the rise of Christianity? I am finding this an obstacle to my giving credence to the other claims of the book currently.
