The amount of Blow coming through Miami in the 80's was unbelievable. You could see the money flowing in Real estate, luxury cars, Boats, Planes. Restaurants, Horse and Dog tracks. People made Fortune's fast. So many people had their hands in the pie. Legitimately and not.
Jan Hammer was certainly a huge part of the success of Miami Vice. He helped give it the edginess that they went for and helped define a generation of dance music. Quite a departure from Mahavishnu Orchestra however.
Though I lived in South Fla until 1982, I was never a MV fan.....even with their bloodless violence (due to network censorship issues). But I was aware and impressed by the show's scope, audacity, and cultural reach. Recently I found the Phil Collins episode and loved it. Though not perfect, it is close. Funny, serious, entertaining.....'Phil the Shill' pushed all the right buttons. Plus, his music! It is a vacation in video.
