That shit is intense my dad and brother are firefighter in north Carolina they are in crazy danger everyday it blows my mind how much we forget about what they do for us. Always got love for the firefighters out their!
That fire is a bastard, every where you turned it was lighting up.. imagine a single home owner saying he was going to protect his house.. no matter what water pressure he had he couldnt keep putting out all those spot fires by himself. Great job guys... #respect
some places have pine trees that spit and flare as the pine oil and sap catches, aussie land has eucalyptus trees, loaded with eucalyptus oil that goes up like a road flare once it hits the right temperature.
Mr Swartz Just before it cuts to the shot of him spraying the roof you can see that the leaves on the roof were on fire. He stands on the car bonnet to get up there by the looks.
Truly amazing efforts, Ben. All of the firefighters who worked so hard to keep people and homes as safe as possible are heroes. Whether or not you think so, we all do. I was 7 when the Ash Wednesday fires hit. I stood outside my primary school gates and watched 100ft flames raging across the hills just east of Glen Osmond - I can still see them as clearly today as I did that day. Even though I now live in Brisbane, I watched with equal parts fear, awe and the hope that no one would lose anything more than property. And for the most part no one did. From someone who has never wielded a hose, never faced these kinds of conditions and has never dreamt of having to, I thank you and all CFS, CFA and RFS volunteers who put their lives on the line.
Amazing first person perspective of the CFS battling against the bushfires in South Australia. It's footage like this that can help to inspire people to sign up as a volunteer for the CFS!
As someone whose dealt with a huge wildfire before, this makes me thankful for the men and women who spent countless hours and over a month dealing with fires. True Heroes.
Incredible video! Puts into perspective just how hard you guys are working to save our beautiful state 'thank you' doesn't seem to be enough... but thank you for all that you're doing.
Good job guys. I'm an arborist and Forestry contractor. The more videos I watch the more I'm going to be a wild land firefighter. Thanks and God bless.
Mr. Ben Wilson A very big thanks for your vid. mate. You and your work mates go above and beyond doing this stuff. you saved some family's home. YOU PEOPLE ARE BLOODY LEGENDS....THANK YOU ALL TO ALL THE C.F.S. CREW
To all the firies fighting on the ground or from the air, you're a bloody legend to many. If it isn't for my 'health issues' I would join CFS in an instant to share a drink or two.
As a Volunteer QLD Rural Firer Fighter, I have seen quite a few bad fires, But nothing compared to what these Men & Women are fighting at the moment. Watching this video may open peoples eyes to realise, Fighting fires is hot, hard work. Also, One should never rush when putting out flames, A job done right is a job done slowly. That fire truck probably holds about 5,000L ? If I'm correct, and Though that sounds like a lot of water, It really isn't. My thoughts are with all fire fighters, your family, and every one affected by these fires. Stay safe
Jamie Rowe at 1:16 you will notice that this appliance is 'Burnside 24', Burnside is obviously the Bde name, and 24 denoting a 2000ltr (approx) 4wd Appliance.
Ahh, I missed it. I was thinking it was a 51 equivalent. (I'm now hoping I am correct that a 51 holds 4,000L) Kind of looked similar to qlds urban appliance which is actually a 4,000L tanker.
Thanks Ben. Love the GoPro idea...That was amazing to watch.. really gets you to see that you work so hard at..my bro is a fighter fighter also and is headed up there tonight .. You can all be proud of yourselves..Thankyou to all..we are all very greatful
This is the kind of content I love. Many thanks to you from a fellow bush firefighter. I’ve even asked my captain if I can record what I do so people can see that what we do isn’t all easy fun an games (Still awaiting response). Paid or not, all firefighters are legends and True Blue heroes. I’m with a little brigade in rural Western Australia and it certainly is worth it. It’s a decision I’ve never been happier to make.
You see the real danger where spot fires start up a minute after the guys ran past. The embers just blow in and its so hot and dry it goes up at once, its not just the creeping front, you can find yourself behind a second line of fire.. and thats how you get trapped. Props to these guys for doing a tough, dangerous job.
South Australia's Country Fire Service are life-savers and home-savers. Adelaide would be a smoking pile of ash if it weren't for them! Thank-you guys for keeping us safe this summer!
The planes flying overhead, running around finding axes to smash doors down with. Watching this feels like playing some kind of post apocalyptic video game.
Fun fact: clips from this video was used in alot of news coverages, the one most used was when you were still on the truck and pointed out the fire behind ya mate
My uncle was a firefighter for fourty years and im coming up on my twenty. Kudos to my Aussie buddies down under and stay safe boys. Love from Southern California
fantastic work. my house has been smoked out cause of this fire. all the volunteer firefighters do an amazing job and deserve a lot more recognition than they get. Much Respect.
Thanks for uploading this. It's useful for people to see this and understand how difficult a job you guys and girls do. It's also a good insight into how frantic it can get with fire patches popping up everywhere, all around you. Thanks for doing what you do.
That was enthralling to watch the interaction , running hose out , the confusion , the physical side of it . Dad drove in 1983 Ash Wednesday Fires the water tanker refill trucks up to blokes like you . I was surprised how quick the flames are put out and your methods
Lets hope we see less of these videos. Although it is entertaining for you, peoples lives are at risk. Prevention is the best cure. Can only hope we never see a video like this again.
ILove Mud While we hope that we never have a reason to see this again (which will never happen), it does show what these guys really do when they are needed. It's a good thing to get it out there.
Chunky Roma ILove Mud The thing is, more of these videos will be giving those Fire bugs a kick, and a reason to want to light another fire. What you saw in this video was 1 of many fire crews helping protect/Save "Structures". I am a QLD Volunteer RFF, and those guys down south (SA,NSW,VIC) have larger fires then we do up here. If Property owners in my area in Central QLD did the right thing and maintained Fire breaks around their property, I could assure you that at least 80% of fires which get away would be stoppable. Down South these fires burn through the forests, collecting more heat and fastly become unstoppable. I believe a documentary should be made about Bush fires, and show people just how much they could do to prevent them.
I don't mean i hope there are more instances when people and their property are in danger, I only hope that when fires like this brake out that firefighters make more videos like this. To show us what it is like to have to be in the heart of the fight.
Thanks for the video Ben. Should be a copy in every aussie houshold. Once you get a collection together, make them available at every Council or better still, used as fundraising for the CFS. Every Australian should be able to see this footage and for varied reasons.
Good on ya mate. Interesting angle and a really good impression of what is involved...only ever got stills and they don't really show the extent of what happens. I'll be showing my kids this one so they have a better idea. Hope all goes well for you, tough time of year.
Great work Ben hopefully this will inspire more volunteers for the CFS as it's such an important task. You should post a CFS link in the vid. Good Luck Stew / Adelaide
dan110024 Mate, I don't believe that was a water bomber, It was only a small 2-3 seater plane. In QLD we Use them on large fires for aerial "Guidance". Basically to keep track of the fire front and giving us a good idea of what we can't see from the ground. But at 7:50 That looked like a bomber as you could see it actually dropping water. I may be wrong, but I'm just taking a good guess. But yes, Big Balls indeed.
Jamie Rowe That is a AirTractor cropduster at 3:50. it is also used as a water bomber during the South Australian Fire Danger Season. dan110024 Those pilots have very Big Cahunas, and good aim. Do not leave car doors or windows open, when they are about.
Jamie Rowe as said above, definitely a waterbomber / air tractor. they were using 3 or 4 choppers to monitor from the air, a c130 and rj85 were also brought in to help out. i have been watching them on the plane tracking web sites all week as well as watching them flying over head :)
amazing...our best wishes and regards to all of you guys and gals who put your lives on the line for us. Heroes -- all of you. Take care and thankyou all so much xx
Last summer it was my first time going out as a wildfire firefighter and so far in my 18 years of living it's the toughest thing I've gone through, but the amazing experience made the tough work worth it.
Bloody Legend you are... keep up your good work. PS try using the little white rubber grommet that comes with some of the gopro accessories it should knock out most of the camera shake noise. But again thanks for doing what you do.
Where I live in Ontario Canada we set up sprinklers on the structures and than walk away and move onto the next structure. We let the vegetation burn around the structures. It takes less man power, less water and more properties can be saved. Good job brothers.
Great work Great footage Thanks and congratulations on a job very well done I am Victorian CFA and I have shared this as it actually shows what happens on a fireground accurately even down to the coughing the water bottles and the banana ! Well done and thanks from a fellow photographer and CFA member
The fact that he isn't even paid for this, he is simply volunteering, is just amazing. So much respect brother
I will do that any day of the year!
@@rasmusfindingross2176 I think this would be pretty fun tbh. Better than drowning
@@tankerspam5884 I actually was at a forest fire in Denmark, 6 days of pure fun and adrenaline

Excellent work by the CFS, demonstrates how good the Firefighters in South Australia are! :)
Impressive work Mr. Wilson! Also I'm loving the free gutter cleaning at 1:59
i think he does that so any dry leaves and stuff wont catch fire.. just a guess tho lol
Mr Swartz I think that's pretty obvious lol
Mr Swartz i think it was smolding/ash drift...
