Great background story Jason. Thank you for sharing. Do not fool yourselves, every trader that lived has blown an account at the beginning of their journey. Managing the psychology behind being a good trader is one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life. And the way to do it is when the markets knock you down, getting back on your feet, again and again and be humble. Trading is not an ATM machine; your gains will be inconsistent. Other than that, you can make a lot of money!

You are a gem. And honest. Just knowing it can be done is helpful. Brilliant strategy.

Inspiring story and thank you for sharing! I am from Hong Kong and it is interesting to know that you traded Hang Seng Index back in the days. Given there is no Commitment of Traders Report in Hong Kong (at least, not that I am aware), do you think looking at the open interest of Callable Bull/Bear Contracts (i.e. CBBC) is a good proxy?

Interesting backstory Jason. Thanks for sharing. May I ask what did you study and or what qualifications did you gain to enable to you to work with hedge funds and then ultimately managing your own business and other peoples money? Many thanks.

Do you ever feel conflicted between being contrarian, but also not wanting to fight the trend? For me it's hard to honor both concepts.

    • @jasonshapiro4369

I dont fight trends. I wait for them to confirm they are over.

I don't think being "contrarian" is about taking the opposite view on every thing, it means trying to make objective decisions while trying to stay clear of the herd/ ignoring the herd as much as possible. Most people have a tendency to be agreeable and follow the herd because it's the safest thing to do, less risky. It's a social trait. But imo in stocks it's best to take the most objective view, ignoring group think. It might just be, from time to time, that the most objective view is also the consensus

@@crowdedmarketreport long story short. I’ve traded 6 years. Took 4 to become profitable. Made lots in 2020 and 2021 then blew up in 2022. Im also a contrarian by nature. Just re opened my account as of last week.
Looking to connect with likeminded ppl that have more experience than myself.

@@jasonshapiro4369 is being a trader worth it ? I've been doing it for almost 7 years, I'm 28 now and had big ups/down but overall made quite some money. I feel it was a great "youth" experience and can still use trading to "park" my money into long term very good risk/rewards trades. I would start waging again to get a full salary and raise a family. How does it sound to you ? I fear trading will not be enough to overcome the "family" challenge.
