    The cool thing about Karl is he doesn't approach his logic with too much ego. He is an inherently curious person on a mental level, and dare I say, at times philosophical. Even though he's ridiculous, and negative seeming at points, his "outside looking in" mentality appeals to most people (whether they realize it or not). He is very relatable because of this. He is so funny because he constantly points out the absurdities of life, which takes a degree of observation and intelligence. He always brings up the idea of perspective, which we all tend to lose sight of in everyday life.

    • @tristanovington2414

      You're making false interpretations. He is by definition an idiot. He thinks a flower helped solved a crime. The reason why people like him is simple, he is witty and obtuse.

    • @BTaylor3444
      @BTaylor3444 10 років тому +12

      I disagree....if you watch/listen to him, he makes good points about the definition of happiness, how we stigmatize death in certain cultures, what people find conventional, etc. I think you're too easily digesting his portrayal as an "idiot." Generally, it takes a degree of intelligence to be comedic.

    I love the way Karl thinks, people should stop calling him stupid, he doesn't always have the facts right but he does more out of the box thinking and questioning social conventions in one conversation then most people do in a lifetime.

    Karl is an extraordinary guy - some of the stuff he says makes absolutely no sense at all (as Ricky says "the ramblings of a madman") and yet other stuff he says rings true (lots of people are uneasy about donating their eyes). Either way, he's one of the great eccentrics!

      Karl isn't diagnosed but he is pretty much a textbook autistic he shows all the signs of Aspergers and one of the signs is not being able to get your point across effectively two others even though you could be saying something very intelligent I recognise this in karl because I am also autistic and I think a lot of the times he actually did say something very smart or something incredibly interesting but he doesn't get his point across effectively and then Steve and Ricky make fun of him but I'm glad that sometimes Steve lunges further into karl's theories

    • @auscaliber1
      @auscaliber1 6 років тому +5

      No he doesn't, he's a pseudo-intellectual. He thinks he understands much more than he really does. For example, early on Karl says something about blind people having good hearing, and Ricky flat out denies it because he can't immediately see how it could logically follow. However, it's true. Due to neuro-plasticity, if the area of your brain normally associated with visual processing is inactive (due to blindness) it can re-configure itself to learn something else, often helping to process audio stimuli instead leading to better hearing. Human beings can even learn to echo-locate under conditions like that. He does that sort of thing a lot, people like him are frustrating. Think they're intelligent and know things, never bother actually learning any of it.

    So many gullible fools! Yes, Karl Pilkington is a real person but he has been shaped, exaggerated and prompted to appear as a buffoon when he clearly isn't. He doesn't have Asperger's or any other form of illness. Gervais and Merchant just happened to hit comedy gold when they first met him at XFM. They realised his potential and carved a pretty good persona to act as a foil to their University educated/higher intellect selves. He never seems to drop his guard (Pilkington) which is admirable - but he is NOT really like the 'character' he plays. 100 % guaranteed!

    3:00 Ricky isn't 100% true on that one. Hes deffinently not 100% wrong tho but when a sense like sight is stripped away entirely from you, its not just you relying on hearing more but you adapting to hear more precisely and accurately. About 50/50 ricky.

    actually karl was right about how everest grows by something like an inch each year and that there was a turtle i think somewhere that did develop a new feature in a period of about a decade

      There are toothless fish that have evolved (grown teeth) in 20 years when man destroys their food source.

      The thing is, these sound more like spontaneous adaptation, evolution is when it happens across an *entire* species and permanently becomes part of their DNA.
      The genes for those particular features on those turtles and fish may have been lying dormant , it's possible that an ancient ancestor of theirs had those features and they got "tucked away" until needed again.

    38:46 - Ricky seems a little ill informed about the concept of tectonic plates pressing up against each other causing mountains to grow as is the case with the Himalayas. But of course Karl's theory moments later is much worse.

    According to Karl's rules of ghost hood, you get to keep everything you had when you died; so why would the removal of the eyes bother him since he would have already died at that point when they were removed? What a goon. Still, suppose it's to be expected.

    Karl occasionally makes very good points, it's just the way he says it which makes it sound like nonsense. His point about evolution being stunted by people operating on harmless mutations is pretty interesting

    • @m.f.b2323
      @m.f.b2323 8 років тому +1
