  • Time to tally up, the time and money that has gone into Lance now he's registered. The final amount was quite shocking, and its something to consider if you plan on taking on a similar project that's for sure. Warning this is very confronting!

Adam, thanks for the honest run down. My HJ45 build has stalled at the moment because I’ve run out of time and money. I’m currently chasing down both. They are definitely a money pit but the skills you learn doing something like this are invaluable and can save you a lot of money in the future in repairing mechanical problems and painting etc yourself, so maybe it’s not such a big outlay if you factor in the value of the knowledge acquired. One big cost that you didn’t talk about was tools, I have spent a heap on new tools and upgrading things like a 15amp compressor and sand blaster cabinet etc. I am a furniture maker by trade so most tools I owned were wood based… now I have a mechanics workshop as well haha. Lance is awesome bro and it’s been an inspiration to me and lots of others in our builds. Thanks so much for sharing your build and your passion, I always look forward to these videos. Cheers

Wise words Adam ,so many restoration projects half done are for sale due to the fact that tat persons timing in life is wrong , I have been restoring cars for 45 years for a living , most people are gob smacked at the price of a restoration , great tutorial not to mention Brave.

Thanks mate, yes I don’t think people are honest about, or simply lose track of how much time and money goes into these things.
And I would absolutely do it again 😂

Brilliant series mate, the old boy looks mint! Giving me motivation to do my own. Missus is shaking her head, “not bloody likely” 😂😂😂

Sometimes the cost isn't as important as the satisfaction you get from the achievement. . . . And to me that's justification for this project. . . .

Absolutely right mate. It did shock me a little though 😂

I think you might be surprised. . . . . . As it's registered you could get back restore cost. . . . . Not many on market registered

When you totaled it up and your reaction … man was I laughing!
But I’m in the same boat. Restoring a 74 FJ40, but for a daily driver, my wife said she wants to know the end total … but she’s supportive in my project. It’s all about the journey, the passion and in the end - miles of smiles!
Thanks for sharing your journey, that’s a great Land Cruiser!

Well done buddy and having your family's support made the project a dream come true for you. Cost is a personal thing and when doing a project doing it right the first time is the best way. Enjoy your truck we blokes all like a toy or two. Thanks to your wife and family too.

Well said! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Having support to do this from loved ones is very important and something I really should have mentioned.

Fantastic job mate. 30 grand is about what you would get, based on the fact it’s a good vehicle and they are popular. My bride knows how much they cost and doesn’t really care. I’m 50, got my first job at 13, raised 3 kids so she reckons it’s about time I did something for me not her and the kids. Great job bloke.

I’ve really enjoyed watching this whole series and we’ll done to you and your family mate. The fact that it’s a hj47, the last of that shape Landcruiser, I think you would get your $30000. The market has stalled a bit since interest rates have been going up, but they still are very much sort after. I’ve got a 47 in my shed also and it’s a work in progress and I enjoy working on it. Like everyone else though it’s just finding the time to spend on it. Enjoy it mate because those old vehicles turn heads everywhere you go.

Nice honest episode, a little scary as I'm half way through a full HJ47 Resto and haven't added up a cost so far, but it's only money hey.
PS> i think you'd easily get $30k for Lance off the right buyer.

Awesome EP and thank you for being so Honest what he has cost you, Its come up a treat Would I pay that for a HJ47 or spend that much money on one to do it up, No way Ive owned a HJ47 I did 300,000ks on the farm and travelling Aus in one, in there standard form with no power steering all round drum brakes and no lockers they are rough as guts and will spin the tyres if someone spits on the dirt in front of the wheels, My old 80 series in standard form is a far better 4wd in ever way IMO. But hay at the end of the day as long as you are happy thats all that matters,
