@@Senortexas i'd disagree with that being the fact he's a rebel captain right now XD, although i guess being a rebel and cool kid are 2 different things
About the "cool kids" episode, i get where you're coming from when you say that gem stuff like the escape pod is dangerous and steven should have told the gems, and yes he has had some time to be a kid. But for the majority of the season him being a kid was also linked to him experiencing some serious trauma and I totally get where the "cool kids" are coming from. Steven is only 13, and has already experienced life-threatening situations on multiple occasions, especially in the most recent 6 or so episodes. To me, this episode was more of a highlight on how much has changed in his life and how its ok to relax and have some fun as a kid while he can bc, like you said, steven is just a kid, and they already put so much blame on his shoulders as it is.
You remember how sketchy the fake ("He was incredible!") Connie that The Room created back in Rose's Room, and now the fake Connie is good enough to fool Steven? The earlier version was created by The Room based only on Steven's memories of Connie when they were at an early stage of their friendship...and now using the actual Connie and almost a year's worth of additional memories from Steven, The Room could make a nearly perfect simulation. This also explains why Greg in RR was the only simulation that acted anything like the real thing, because The Room could use Rose Quartz's extensive memories of her experiences with Greg.
What I love about this episode is it sets up the typical peer pressure story and gets you on board with that, and then subverts it- The cool kids aren't entirely wrong, and they aren't peer pressuring him to be jerks, they really like him and care about him. They're genuinely trying to make him feel better. Jenny put her life on the line to protect him. Not good to contemplate too far what Garnet's gauntlet would do to the human head... I love that the show respects kids (and the rest of us) enough to tell complicated stories. Life isn't usually as straightforward as "bad people doing bad stuff."
Joy Ride is one of the episodes that I feel is underrated, it really highlights how Steven is feeling on the inside and serves as a reminder that he is just a kid and that there’s nothing wrong with having a break! Yes, his responsibilities as a gem are important, but he just went through an intense and traumatic event, as a child too, he definitely deserves some slack.
Honestly, yeah, the Cool Kids are very irresponsible, but at the same time, they are the most caring characters in the entire show, and they are genuinely nice.
I think both parties are right and wrong in Joy Ride. The cool kids really just want Steven to take a load off himself, little guy actually got to talk about how he feels to someone for the first time about that subject. They wanted him to just chill for a while with them, but they're still teens (maybe early twenties at most), so they're reckless and do stupid stuff for fun. The Gems fail to see it from Steven's perspective as well, dude just got out of a gem prison, after getting a black eye from Jasper (right after watching Garnet get utterly defeated), then going through the whole Connie processing thing. And when they figure out Steven is in there and get him out the first thing they do is scold him (although, it's understandable, it's important to them). Like the cool kids say, they're putting way too much pressure on him, they had a good intention, but wrong execution of it.
Schmaltz is literally Yiddish for liquid chicken fat, a common ingredient in old-school Jewish cooking. Schmaltz has somehow morphed to also mean something that is trite and sentimental, so calling something schmaltz or schmaltzy is like calling it sappy or corny.
i think with how the production codes worked, which is how/why some services order each season kinda weird, these are part of season 1 but the official finale of season 1 is jailbreak :)
so that first episode actually happened BEFORE the last few episodes, for some reason they ordered it wrong. But the second episode here is actually season 2 so it's cool
Open Book makes so much more sense before the finale where it's supposed to be, because they mention the book a couple of times in earlier episodes, and placing Open Book where Hulu /cartoon Network did disrupts the flow of the story that was going on. We went straight from Jailbreak and the ship crashing, to Full Disclosure and the town being wrecked, to Joyride and Steven and the gems cleaning up the wreckage. Putting Open Book in the middle of that is unfortunately jarring and doesn't serve either episode.
Just realized that in the last episode of season 1 in the pictures with the crystal gems and the cool kids buck dewey represents garnet because of the shades and the chill personality and sour cream represents pearl with the sort of the same hair type and amethyst is Jenny because they are both layed back all the time
Huh... The cools kids was one of my favourite episodes, one of the First times Steven got to talk about the things his experiencing to other people besides conny and actually be told that he is just a kid, yeah what they did is irresponsible, but for a good reason,to be honest sour cream and his friends aren't really the most responsible (teenagers? Well, early twenties) people hahaha Anyways,WOOOO,I'm so happy ur this far❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The joy ride episode really highlights that steven is just a kid and shouldn't be put into dangerous situations by the gems. He's not at fault at all. The three kids really helped to show that.
Btw “Full disclosure” and “joy ride” are the first 2 episodes of season 2 not the season 1 ending. “Jail break” was the last season 1 episode, you should maybe look up the official order of episodes instead of following what hulu says
It kinda sucks that Hulu went with the airing order rather than the intended order. So basically, S1's final few eps were reshuffled a little bit to try out a new "bomb format". One episode a day for an entire week. For this first bomb it was Rose's Scabbard - Jail Break as you saw here. But Rose's Scabbard was supposed to air earlier, with a a couple episodes in between it and the five part finale (starting with The Message). Say Uncle was also supposed to air earlier, as it deals with Steven learning to control his shield powers which is kinda moot after The Return. It honestly doesn't damage S1 very much to see them out of order. Mostly it amounts to Garnet having chronologically the wrong outfit for a few eps. However, it *does* really mess with early S2, making it feel really slow. If you watch it in intended order, the early pacing of S2 makes quite a bit more sense. Luckily, all other bombs were built with the bomb format in mind and no further schedule screwing happened. Basically, late S1 to early S2 is the only part where that really matters.
The whole book hating thing and episode is actually so relatable. Like i have cartoons or books or games I REALLY FUCKING HATE, but i have friends who love and have joined those fandoms too. And because i love my friends and my family, i think itt's harder for me to want to SHIT on those fandoms and stories. Cause you have direct friends and families who love those stories. So it makes you want to not be so upset about it even though it's not your cup of tea.
You know before starting season 2 you should react to the full version of the Intro Edit: I'm keeping the original comment however it's not accurate, watch after episode 7
@@ShadowExtremeEX8 It can be watched when the intro changes without any problems. There are a few teases, but they aren't teases anymore when you already know everything. The teases are mostly for late season 2 and early season 3 stuff iirc, so early season 2 is a good spot to watch it. It came out mid season 2 if I'm remembering right.
It released between episodes 10 and 11 of season 2. The stuff that it shows "early" isn't a spoiler, it's an ominous glimpse of what's to come. Watching it after season 2 changes what was, for those of us watching at release, a hype af moment into just a "oh neat, I recognize that". The extended intro also doesn't make sense after the end of season 2 in terms of how it portrays the teams of protagonists vs antagonists. That said, watching after episode 7 or whatever probably works too. Any time after the relevant outfit but still in the first half of season 2.
You're right, though, Steven was afraid of her not liking him. The book ending was just a manifestation of that romantic interest. But theyre still kids.
