I loved my old Miggy 500.
I kept using it way after it was cool.
It's in a box here somewhere.
I'm hoping to resurrect my Yamaha CX5-M also.

Paradox is a truly wonderful album, Maddi.
This video really is eye-opening! Wow. Awesome seeing so many pieces of technology being expertly combined with so much creativity.
More dials than mission control at NASA!

Haha yeah a lot of dials there, enough to almost create a magic eye illusion if you look at it funny.
There is something special and satisfying about using all this technology, for me it's all a part of the art.
      Thanks so much Paul!

@MsMadLemon Also fascinating to see the Amiga tracks, especially Paradox, playing in Soundtracker!
Splendid visuals too, really complements the music, particularly those shots with the sun shining across & casting shadows through all the dials!

First off I just wanted to say "I get you!" I think you have a great setup using what you have as your tools. I love using the polyend tracker. I end up getting the CME U6MIDI Pro midi router 3 in and 3 out. Try to limit the amount of reconnecting the Midi port. The main thing I love about your setup is the real 80's feel of the music synth age. The Yamaha DX7 synth engine is the best. don't know much about Cobalt 8, but I have the Modal Synth SE with wind controller patches installed. I play the sax in High School, so my paint brush would be the wind controller. I like how you tinted the pad on the Polyend Tracker. I ended up getting stickers for labeling keys on the piano. In trying to speed up step recording, I got the Launchpad Pro Mk3, and setup the chords, which has 14 open pad to program the chords on. I use the Korg Wavestation Keyboard to set up the chords on the Launchpad, then export the midi back out to the Polyend Tracker, to be later assign to any of the synth engine I have. I have 2 Polyend Tracker sync together for this with 16 track now available. I ended up getting a under drawer keyboard kit to be able to fit 2 Polyend Tracker in it. Got a 3M velcros tape and self adhesive wire clip to manage all the cables under the desk. I also admire how clean your setup looks. Is it always this clean?
One of the thing I love about your sound is that I have seen so many Polyend Tracker video of where the drum kit is way over done with super fast rhythm. Yours is the most melodic beat that I have heard in a long time.

Hiya Maddi ☺️ What a stunning upload and l knew l was going to enjoy this as much as the new album. The phrase “labour of love” springs to mind and the passion and commitment to the end results are breathtaking.
This is the very definition of artistry mixed with musical crafting to bring sounds that just wash over the listener on multiple levels.
The attention to detail in the mastering of each track doesn’t go unnoticed with a melodic precision that feels purposeful and organic.
Paradox takes you on a journey on every repeated play through and l always find new paths within those journey’s.
You should be extremely proud Maddi, exceptional stuff ☺️👌🏼

Hey Jason, thank you so much and also for the review on Bandcamp.
I've always been someone who notices the small details in music, each time I listen to a song/track, I hear something new.
I don't come across too many people who can do this. From the way you write you seem to be one of those who do indeed recognize the small details. it's a nice feeling knowing that there's someone out there who's listening to my music like that, the small details which I've put in the background of my tracks🙂
Many thanks for your kind and lovely words as always Jason, I really like how you appreciate things in great depth!
And also thank you for your support, it doesn't go unnoticed 🙂

The Cobalt 8 is not multitimbral - I read that was a deliberate decision from Modal to both keep more processing available for more complex sounds as well as keep development time down since adding that would be more difficult for them. It’s only 8 voices so maybe adding a split or layering mode might make sense but true multiple channels is probably not that interesting to most people.

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  Рік тому +1

Thanks for clarifying that and now I know the technical term for it! At least now I won't spend time looking around on how to do it. Shame though because I'd have loved to have heard the Cobalt8 'sing' with 3 or 4 voices live, simultaneously.

Yeah, I am a bit of a horrible subscriber :-) I don’t click the bell icon in general. I want to keep the social media alerts as low as possible. I am subscribed to 200 channels already and the number is (slowly) increasing. The range of my interests is a bit too wide :-) But I usually leave a lot of likes and sometimes a comment (in case I don’t watch on tv).

We shouldn’t need to use bell option and then miss things because we would get 1000 notifications…the algorithm should just suggest stuff to us that we are already subscribed to! Instead it only suggests what is trending and good creators miss out

Always fun to see your workflow and how it’s influenced by both your choices and the technology. I’ve never been a tracker person, but I can see how it influences both your composition choices and the end product of the song. Oddly, to me anyway, it also brings your recording style to an older methodology of recording it all live rather than per track. I’ve always done my composition using “stunt” instruments and then gone back and recorded each instrument on its own so that I can tweak and form the instrument afterwards before committing to a final mix. Both ways of working are labor intensive as you say. I think your workflow will continue to influence your “sound”, and that’s cool and inspiring for you. For me, I couldn’t go that route for the sheer fact that the cables required would consume my life!

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  Рік тому +1

By the sounds of it, it seems your workflow and methodology is very different from mine, Kinda curious to see how you would go about things. I personally do what comes naturally to me, kinda interesting that it's as you say it's more an older methodology, I like that :-). I'm figuring recording it per track you'd have more control over the final mix post recording.
Yeah, with regards to cables, I'm starting to realize things get spaghettified very quickly whenever I set up and then clear up after i'm done. That's the only downside to this.

Very cool! I started with Amiga 500 in 1990. Then my first synth was SY22! I swapped it for TG33, which I still have. TG33 was perfect for trackering MIDI on Amiga, because it has 2 x SY22 polyphony, and you can divide the polyphony in two groups if you want and choosing which voices use which group. I could then have strings in one group and other sounds (played in the other group) would not cut their slow release.
Groups can have their dedicated effect send level and option between two stereo outputs (can use it as 4 x mono outputs too).
SY22 / TG33 is great. As you say, cinematic. Moby did his big blue strings with it. Pet Shop Boys has used it, too.
A friend pointed out back then that the sounds are flat. Yes, in terms of technical dynamic range. It's not 16-bit. But that was one thing that made mixing it with Amiga's 8-bit sounds very easy. I only had basic mix with level control, no EQ, no nothing.
    Sorry, fond memories :)
Thanks for all the good stuff!

Awesome to see the processes you go through, and to hear your thought process too. I’ve had a chance to listen to the album a few times now and really enjoying it. The real standouts for me are Paradox, Dissonance and Release. Wow, Release is really amazing. Always appreciate a dark track. We’ll done all around though, fantastic as always 😊

I have to admit, the tracks you've mentioned as standouts for you are the tracks which had the most feeling go into them. These three flowed very easily when I created them. They almost feel like signature tracks of the album, especially the melody in Dissonance. It's nice that you sort of, indirectly noticed it 🙂
I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying the album. Thank you so much for your kind words! 🙂

That was meant for your legion of fans. I know the algorithm considers comments as an indicator of depth of engagement. I'm guessing that if one cares enough to write, they must feel a personal attachment, and therefore would be more easily persuaded to buy any products which you might suggest. And after all, it's all about advertising. I know I would! Lol. Keep up the great work!
ps. 1. Subscription, 2. Likes, and 3. Comments are the 3 pronged formula. The represent varying degrees of effort by the viewer, and a good gauge, by YT.
