- Skinceuticals took me to LA so let's go shopping! I hopped over to Rodeo Dr. to shop at stores we don't have in Canada so of course I have to review some pieces for you guys!

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy your content! After putting 3 kids through college, I’ve realized that I’m too broke to buy cheap. I’ve been learning to sew the past few years and it has made me very picky as to the ready-to-where I buy. In fact, my clothing consumption has markedly reduced because I’m so picky. To me, construction and fabrics are EVERYTHING 😁. Although I can’t afford to buy top quality items in the upper stratospheric tier, I do save up to buy the best that I can afford or learn to make it my self. I have made a pair of jeans that I’m very proud of and right now I’m learning to make a button up shirt using some higher end construction techniques and let me tell you…it’s not easy! I’m making a toile (practice garment) out of an old bedsheet so I have everything perfected before I cut into the beautiful high quality emerald green linen I purchased. It really makes me chuckle when people comment with supreme indignation at the cost of clothing, especially well made clothing. They just don’t know what it takes to produce a well constructed garment in premium materials. As a Gen X’er, I remember what better quality clothing was like. I still have some of my pieces from the 90’s that I’m still wearing and am tickled that it’s so on trend right now. Though, in all honesty, the quality of clothing started to decline in the 70’s. When I pop into a vintage store, you can see a marked difference in the quality of clothing from the 50’s-60’s to the 70’s and then again from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s to the 2010’s with a decline with each decade. I wish everyone would have access to take a free sewing class where they could make a simple garment just for educational purposes. It might help to shift the thinking about what clothes should cost. Oh, I would love to hear your take on Everlane and Madewell. I have my own opinions, but would love to hear yours 😉.
This was SO helpful (and fun)! I still enjoy thrifting, but have reached the point in my career where I can shop at higher end stores. Your content helps me pick out items worth investing in and can feel confident purchasing.

It's nice to finally see a more familiar brand here. My small country has a big &other stories store. Their clothes are not cheap but they're well made and usually made of natural materials so it makes them worth it.

Interesting video. At the moment, pretty much 70% of my closet is &Other Stories. They're clothes are well-made with great fabric for a cheaper price than most high-end retailers. Though I've noticed over the years, if a unique item is released, it's usually sold out within 24 hours, while all the dull items, like the satin brides maid dress lingers around on their site for years. I think if they stick to churning our unique high quality pieces, they'll remain in a business for a while.

I've heard that a certain amount of polyester in jeans is to help them maintain their shape. Cotton will stretch over time. However, I like that "broken in" quality of my old jeans and still prefer the feel of cotton.

Polyester is lightweight, and holds less wrinkles. Also gives a little stretch. I like that they added a touch of it to the jeans that you tried on.

Veronica Beard is available at Holt's in Canada, not The Bay. And they have a standalone store in Yorkville that opened about a year ago.

I liked the outfits on from Veronica Beard and Alice and Olivia. I thought the halter top looked great on you. The clothes from & Other Stories were not my favorite, especially the pants! Who is going to go out and wear pants that you are going to trip on and get super dirty? I love Dolce Vita shoes and was hoping you would try some on. Also, you are 100% correct that the acrylic in sweaters make them pill and look old after a few wears.

Would you say a lot of these clothes would need be hand washed, dry cleaned or regular Or does it vary depending on the fabric? I think some of these brands might have been around when Nordstrom was in Canada! Really miss that

Where do the higher end brands manufacture the clothes? I'm guessing it wouldn't be the same place as Shein. Or, are those seamstresses just as good but because they are so rushed, they can't do good work (and the material they work with is so crap)?
One things I feel like gets left out of the “biodegradable” qualifications is the buttons! I get this may be a bit of a nitpick because unless you’re buying good quality (expensive) stuff you’re pretty much always gonna get plastic buttons, but I HAVE seen mother of pearl buttons getting a bit more popular too, I always check for them!
I LOVE your videos. Would you feel comfortable giving the background of the facilities where these clothes were made for future videos? As well as environmental concerns, I’m also interested in the standards of the factories where clothes are made and knowing if they are ethical.

After some years at home I'm getting a job and need to buy some classic pieces.
While I do appreciate this “birth” of conscious shopping and sustainable fashion awareness, I must admit that evaluating all elements that make for a “well-constructed” piece, things such as confection and detailing and not only fabric percentages, it does make my shopping experience somewhat overwhelming. Then adding to that sizing and body proportions, and how each brand has different parameters for sizing - I guess it’s a good outcome for reducing the epidemic of impulsive shopping but I can’t help the feeling that I’m just looking for the smallest detail to convince me out of getting a certain clothing item. This may be for many reasons and it’s just my personal experience, I think many people are experiencing this too. Nevertheless, sustainable shopping as an ongoing lifestyle still seems ideal to me…
Totally get it. While I would love to have a sustainable & high quality wardrobe, first I need to find items that actually fit me well.
Let’s also add that it does get infinitely harder if you’re not in straight sizing. I’m well into plus size pants, but just inside straight sizing for dresses and tops most of the time, unless it has zero stretch then my chest gets in the way and then the next size up fits terribly in my shoulders. I really think this channel is valuable in general, but I do think it is not coincidence that most of the people who seem to find sustainable shopping “easy” have similar body types. And I hate how condescending people get when you point out budgets and how you also want to feel good in clothes even if you are poor and fat. As if you aren’t trying hard enough. But if your take home pay is $3000 a month and your rent is $1500, car is $300, utilites are as much as $400 and student loans are $250 and you have to feed yourself too… then yeah dropping even $90 on a second hand quality top is a lot of money and not necessarily always in the budget. And then there is the absolute exhausting time suck that finding things second hand that fit and you like and are actually sustainable is, not everyone sees shopping as a hobby. Yes, I think this stuff is important but I wish people could understand you have to truly understand where people are coming from and meet them where they are to help them change.

I'm in the petite (5'4" and shorter) category myself. I find that a lot of petite women are unaware that the standard in Western countries is to make clothing for 5'7" women and a lot of us waste time trying on a lot clothing that has a low probability of fitting. The pants are usually 3"+ too long, the hip box too big, the skirts too voluminous, the arm holes way too long and exposed, the bust darts too low, the shoulders too wide, necklines way too low, and the sleeves slouchy.
There are a few stores that carry properly sized petite clothing: Talbot's, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, Macy's, JCP. When I go into some of these stores, I'm still amazed sometimes to see 5'7" women shopping in the petites section and petite women shopping in the standard section. LOL. I know petite women want more variety and try to look for "finds" in the standard sized clothing. However, I think this worsens the situation because the stores will then think that there are more standard shoppers than there really are and will be further disinclined to invest in making clothing for petite sizes.
For my fellow petite ladies, please write to your stores and let them know that you want petite fitting clothes. Don't try to make it work in the standard section when you deserve better! Let yourself be counted in the market share properly and your voice heard. You want clothing that fits you!!

What makes you think these are overpriced? It's not cheap to manufacture clothing with luxurious materials along with fairly-paid, ethical labor.
You should probably stay in your lane and stick to fast-fashion sweatshop labor clothing since you can't appreciate well-constructed clothing and the prices they demand.
Everyone has a different budget and personally I would rather spend more on a good quality piece than buy cheap items that last 1-2 wears. You save money in the long run this way plus your outfits will likely look better! Tbh I don't really know what you're trying to say with the last sentence!
