This is awesome that you all are taking the initiative to bring the level of service across the repair industry to a minimum viable level. I'm giggling as I listen to Sunday talking to the shop that punched those holes!! iPadRehab is such a great boon to the repair industry.
At absolute minimum the Tennessee repair shop should pay the Ipad Rehab bill,,, really they should buy her a new phone as well, but they need to at least pay Jessa's bill...
28:07 looking that soldering skill used to attach connector to flex I would say that repair shop not only ripped 5G antenna, but also ripped that connector off from the flex and tried to fix that also... Funny how well 5G is going on USA, I'm living on rural(ish) (10+ km from nearest city) area and I use 1Gbps 5G as an backup connection for my fiber connection... But hey, reason might be the name of the city; Nokia. Greetings from Finland.
If you're ok with calling out drivesavers shoddy workmanship you should also name and shame this business. Because drivesavers charge a fortune they're less likely to see the average person for simple issues so the shop that did this will be destroying many many more phones. People need to be rightly warned not to go there.
iPhone repair industry is really bad. I've seen so many local repair store competing to attract customers with lower price and fast turn around. Their repair quality is bad, they rush everything to meet their 'quick fix' promise and they use low quality parts to keep their price low and still make some profit. Once they put up sign that says "it's the customer responsibility to back up data, we are not responsible for data loss" and once the customer signed that ToS, they don't care about the customer's data. I always ask the customer to backup their data before bringing their phone here for repair. OR I ask the customer if they want me to backup the data (iTunes backup) before performing anything on their phone, even for simple things like replacing the screen. Of course this will take time and won't be as quick as those other "get fixed in 30 minutes" repair shops. But I'd rather have the customer's data safe than risking losing their data and ended up with angry / dissatisfied customer.
It's a problem that the OEM doesn't support repair. Repair standards really need to start from them. Otherwise it is a list of "best practices" that is learned from careful dismantling a phone by a third part and basically reverse engineering it. Then the manufacturer has a blue print of what to make more difficult on the next iteration. Luckily we are moving away from a throw away society, but we have a long way to go.
Listening to Sunday's customer service voice in the background calmly explaining to the person responsible how much they botched this job and letting him know that you were currently livestreaming it if he "had thick skin" was *so good*. The giggling beforehand about the potential for them to write off your expertise with sexism was an all-too-familiar bonus. While the person at the shop stated that they won't be taking on this specific type of work again, there's still so much that went wrong here that transcends technology. If you're feeling unsure of your methods and can't approach your own father (or any number of online resources) about guidance or subcontracting to another shop, what does that say? Is your ego more important than your father's reputation and both of your livelihoods? That the customer had to fight for a refund when they gave the phone back in an unusable state was bad enough, but she was a returning customer who had a good prior experience, again - why tarnish that rapport? This was as fun as it was frustrating to watch, and I'm so glad Barbie got her phone back to help her furry friends find their forever homes.
They promised to give me the same phone they had at their shop but till today.. I have not heard from them. This not only cost me a ton of money but... I lost potential adopters and fosters. That phone is used for rescue. My number is all over the net. I had to remove it 2 days ago because no one can get in touch with me. I normally drive to NJ every 2 to 3 weeks and have dogs ready for meet and greets. Now it's been almost a month and I have NO dogs set up for meet and greets. I'm considering suing which breaks my heart becuz they fixed my laptops with no issues but after this experience god knows how my laptop was repaired. Also.. I asked him to get me a authentic apple glass. Obviously that glass was not authentic and I was fooled to think it was had it did work. Going to the lawyers Monday. I will take this up with them.
I absolutely hate that this happened to her, it's not ok and it makes our entire industry look bad. If you can't do it right, with quality parts then you simply shouldn't do it. It's ok to learn, it's ok to experiment and develop your skills. It's not ok to do those things on customer's phone's with out their informed consent. For those complaining about the prices customers will/won't pay... If we as an industry had a standard of using only high quality parts (Say XO7 minimum) and do the repair right (transfer true tone, replace screen gasket with a quality one, replace/transfer LDIs) and I'm not even going to say transfer the screen IC as part of that standard.. Then customers would simply learn that is the cost of repair. And in return, they'd get repairs done right.
There should be a centralized place to submit videos of you fixing anything you would offer as a repair, say cracked back glass. You would have 3 to 5 videos of you fixing it and explaining the how and why and where you get parts. So someone would go to the site and search iphone7 back glass and see the videos of you making that repair. It would have to be ech individual tech to submit videos not just one to represent the repair shop. Just like each doctor needs there own licence. So eventhough you have a repair shop or hospital that has a good reputation you should be able to find reveiws for doctors or repair tech. Even Uber has reveiws for individual drivers.
I used to think Apple's incompetence at repair was exclusive to them. Watching DiagnoseDan shows that vehicle manufacturers are also pretty rubbish at fixing their own products
Shame on the Tennessee shop Should Not be practicing on customers devices Honestly, I think the shop should buy them a new phone 📱 to make things right and stop doing glass back repair 👩🔧 And they should go to your class for some lessons .. couldn’t believe my eyes watching this video 😢
What to do about Drive savers ridiculous 3-10x of market fees: 1. Start collecting and publishing online all your customer reviews which seem to be most all 10/10, with fee charged, if possible, 2. Publish your typical fee list, and put the drive savers fee next to it for comparison, this should put downward pressure on drive savers fees because people will see what market prices are, and stop even considering drive savers as an option or their only option because they don't know any shops in the repair community, and seek service from iPad rehab and other very good shops.
housing swap is the best way take Longer sum time but better then Laser m/c phone shop can’t be bother with housing swap? this is why phones get damaged badly just a quick easy fixs for the money do not.s care about the customer

That iPhone got hit harder then Bonnie and Clyde🤣🤣🤣

Awesome job and greetings from Puerto Rico
what if you tell the customer that the glass isn't oem is that ok?
Best and safest repair is to change the entire housing assembly.

Good news to Barbie!
Bad news for that shop.

Do we need a repair shop "wall of shame"? Kind of like a directory of who NOT to go to?
That shop needs to replace Barbie’s phone.
