10 Biblical Dangers of Religious Condemnation

It can be really hard to engage heart healing if you have a lot of religious condemnation being hurled into your thoughts all day. For many who grew up in a law-based or legalistic environment, their hearts are easily condemned. It steals their confidence and clouds their hearts with a lot of confusion.
The condemning voice of the Inner Pharisee seeks to block you from receiving all that God has for you. If love and grace are not the foundation of your relationship with God, then the voice of the Pharisee will gain front-row seats in your thoughts. Black and white thinking will easily rule the day. Perfectionism, performance and the pressure to get everything right will be driving forces. Your past will be a haunting presence that taunts and disqualifies you, rather than being experiences you can learn from.
From my years of work with Christians, I am convinced that a large majority of tender-hearted believers are under the barrage of condemning thoughts. I was one of them. Growing up, the prevailing message was to “live right” and “do what is right.” Holiness was a major emphasis. Though these precepts are legitimate and needed revelations to learn, they are out of place if not laid on the foundation of love and grace. In my heart, I was missing the reality of God’s unconditional love for me. To me, grace was a word that meant that God tolerated me. My foundation was off.
Without grace and love being experienced in our hearts, everything in our spiritual structure will be distorted. Certain Scriptures won’t make sense. Most of all, this setup will give rise to the voice of the Inner Pharisee; a deceptive religious friend that will keep you from receiving all that God has for you.
