I think we like frayed edges & grunge as a bit of a rebellion against the “all new” & disposable society we have these days. In our parents’ era (eh hem… well, for some of our parents), they were so excited to buy new things & usually had to save hard to get them. So they were really special to them. But we can easily buy brand new things & it’s less economical to get things repaired than replace with new ones, so now we are drawn to re-using & recycling things that show a rich history of use. And when they don’t have them, we create the look of them.
I have been watching your videos for several years. I dont comment often. In the beginning, I was just fascinated with your creativity. Your talent and how things look. I am a beginner at trying to create some of my own videos- it makes me so nervous. Honestly... my appreciate for you has multiplied 100 fold. You are well spoken, experienced with your eye and design. I love how you explain your choices, and your process. Im an experienced maker, and I realize each time how much more there is to learn and your videos spark the joy of the adventure of creating. I feel challenged to create new things, in new ways. The way you explain your goal, and then how you will accomplish this is amazing. I feel inspired to embrace my own creativity,. So I just really want to thank you for all you contribute to our community. For a long time. I have never thought of using fabric in my die cut machine. Thank You j... so much.
Thank you so much for your kind words! ☺️ I feel like I still learn and grow with each video I make. This keeps it interesting and on my toes. Also, I’m nervous every time I turn on the camera until I get into the flow, even after nearly 1000 videos…😬❤️
I love watching you create. You have such a beautiful eye. I never liked junk journals until I saw how you turn them into beautiful works of art. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
Wunderwunderschön, liebe Barbara! Sowohl das digitale Papier, die Stoffe, die Blätter als auch und besonders das Endergebnis! Zum Verlieben! 😍 Ganz liebe Grüße ! Rita 💌
Really enjoyed watching this extravagant belly band come to life, love the fabric leaves with frayed edges very much. I think frayed edges are soft, we learn that worn usually means more comfy! Much inspiration here Barbara!💕🇨🇦
I love the use of fabric and leaf shapes. It looks fabulous! Very clever details really make the belly band pop. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us.
Beautiful!!😍 I love every detail you added. You introduced me to the fact that I can cut fabric with dies earlier this year and I haven't looked back.🥰 Thank you for inspiring us! 💕
Fancy pancey!😂 very yummy embellishment with all the bits and bobs possible. I love it as I love these digitals. I think the warm fuzzies we get from frayed and softly worn things is because they remind us of our favourite much worn jeans or our childhood teddy bear and blanky.❤❤❤
Oooh! thanks for showing us your experiment with fabric + card stock through the die cut works! Appreciate you showing us on camera too, I know it's extra work getting the Sizzix set up with the camera 😊. And to your question about frayed edges, yes it's cozy and comfy just like you said - it's like a comfy worn-in shirt or favorite blanket!
Looks beautiful! It’s so much fun to figure what you are going to use and how you are going to put it together. Sometimes you can even surprise yourself!
Just gorgeous Barbara, as is everything that you create. I kept yelling 😆 black thread black thread and you heard me just in time. Thank you for doing you. 🌻
Seeing the leaf dies worked with the fabric, I’m going to try that technique with feather dies. Love your projects and approach to trying new techniques. Thank you for sharing.
Mwa-Mwa 😘😘to YOU! LOVE what how you added interest to your bellyband. Wow - it is gorgeous. I'll to try that trick of fabric attached to cardstock/paper and then using dies. Thank you, Barbara. ❤
Those colours are so mellow 😍. I really need to treat myself to a dauber. I need an iron like that too lol. Oh WOW that cut brilliantly! I keep forgetting I can cut cotton. I've cut cotton and pleather before, synthetics like nylon et wouldn't for me even though they're thinner....or maybe because they're thinner lol 🤷. Lol I agree with @allisonjames below 👇. My parents wanted brand new, wipe clean, disposable plastic shine stuff and threw away all the old treasures. We see their value and have to fake it 🙈. It's mad how we love sparkle AND grunge but it's yummy. Uh oh 🤭 good job the gloves didn't melt onto your hands! Es very poignant words. Lol yes, if hindsight came earlier 🤣. I absolutely LOVE I 😍, always inspirational. TFS and have a great day 💖💖💖
I have never used digitals, but definitely want to so bad! Just don’t have to resources at the moment. However, I always feel so inspired after watching each and every beautiful video! Thank you bunches ❤
You could also try double sided bondaweb or hem tape. You set it with hot iron. You can get sheets of it, or rolls. Make sure it is double sided. Protect iron with greaseproof paper. Love your creation and sense of humour 😊
Beautiful. I am usually a less is more but truly loved the more is more on this belly band. I have die cut fabric before but never glued to card stock. Will have to try it, great look. Poor little blue bird got covered up.
You are so creatively brave Barbara! I’m always scared to ruin something so end up not experimenting. You inspire me to just let go and do it! Thank you for all you share!
That turned out so beautiful!💙 Love the wat the leaves turned out. I was hoping for gold splashes and you didn’t disappoint!😂 Thanks so much for sharing your process. 💕
Very nice! The fabric die cuts worked great. I’ve die cut felt to make leaves and vines. Works great, but you should use fabric glue to adhere felt. White glue gets absorbed by the felt. Card stock on the back of the fabric was a good idea! 🍂
I think this is such a fun series and very helpful for me to understand that I can use something somebody else created as a starting point, but then I can add my own twist to it to reflect my personal style. Thank you, thank you!!
So inspiring!! And... just so you know... I'm copying you on making a cover with Tim Holtz Mosaic print (the one you also almost used in this video), on the inside... That fabric is gorgeous! Although the piece I got have more gold that turquoise in it, I love it! 😊 Also... I almost spat my tea out while looking at Luise 40K video, the first one, and she got a bunch of photos from you while she was filming. Your timing again is on spot! 😄 That was so funny!! 😂

That totally makes sense 😊
Oh my goodness I could not agree more. They threw away so many old treasures too and now we have to fake them 🤭

Your boundless creativity astounds me! Thank you for so many artful ideas. ❤️

You and Luise give me so many new to me texture ideas
I have glued fabric to light cardboard advertising mailers and gotten some wonderful die cuts…the leaves and feathers also come out great
You do make me chucklexxx🥰🥰🥰🥰
