So cool to see somebody else figure out the laser print & tape trick we've been using in our fine art for a little while now! A couple of tips that we've figured out that might help you in future laser decals: a little drop of dish soap on your fingers helps keep your adhesive sticky (keeps your skin oils from gumming it up). And we like using laminating sheets instead of adhesive tape, as it's a little thicker and has more adhesive. Happy making!
Such a gorgeous case. I'm sorry I only now discovered your channel and this video (or I would have insta-bought this case + mouse). I hope you can still reply, what is the liquid you use when sanding the PLA? I'm guessing it might just be water + dishwasher soap?
Those green LEDs you use to solder the Pis for your MacPi cases can be sold for about $9 a pack at Amazon. I'm currently designing a MacPi case STL file for the newly-released rPi 5 (inspired by your project), which includes a switch for the power button, and I made a new label for the case with Inkscape and Linearity Curve. The Apple logo was used as a placeholder for an icon I made for the label. Once I finish, If you like, I can PM you the STL file and the label. Maybe you can make a few improvements to the case design.
Beautiful-- and awesome with the decal. I had no idea that could work. Can you tell us exactly what you sprayed after you affixed the decal/tape? Some kind of varnish?
This is so amazing! I've been wondering since a long time how I can build a plastic beige case (or at least a good imitation thereof) and turns out you can use sprite. Also important to polish the recently printed pieces.
This is awesome! My only suggestion is that you put some black electrical tape on the inside of the case at the front right side to block out the red power LED from shining through the plastic 14:23
Great work! Im currently designing a universal measurement housing based on the atari XL line style. Im allready courious how my printer will handle all those many cooling vents along the facetted edges...
As a huge fan of the old Macintosh aesthetic, I'm super into this. Are the STL files still available? It looks like there isn't anything on your Etsy shop at this time.
Sure! You‘ll be able to spend your money by end of next week since I’m going to release an upgraded version of this case on my online shop! :-) I would be very happy to make one of these for you! thank you for your comment and kind words! Best Regards Kevin
Damn cool. Awesome attention to detail! Also, has anyone out there attempted to print a full on full size retro Mac case, i.e. for a Macintosh II series or Power Mac i.e. Power Mac 8500? I have an 8500 heavily upgraded but its case is brittle as hell... I'd like to either print myself or have some someone print for me a new case for it so I don't have to be so careful with it.
Dude, this is freaking awesome. I wish I had those skillz. I want to make a life size Macintosh classic or se to fit a 7' or 10" LCD with a pi 4, but I can't model and don't think it would fit on an ender 3 to print lol
Thank you very much bro! Actually I’m having the same idea to print a life size Mac I’ll release a video soon :-) should be also possible on the ender 3 if you split the parts so that those fit on the buildplate and glue them together in the end 😃
@@KevinNoki if you make a render and subsequent file for printing, cany you let me know. I'd love to make it. I've been looking at Amazon for the r-pi lcd kits between 7-10"
9:40 - I have 5 different soldering stations (from small to large, from brands like the reputed Weller to chinese Yihua), and I NEVER have the situation of a soldering tip exiting a stand). I honestly think it is a bit dangerous... But then again, who hasnt burnt himself once...
what are you running for macintosh classic emulation? Sheepshaver or something else? I remember giving up on macintosh emulation at the time of sheepshaver due to things like no usb or serial support. Would be interested in what you are using :)
Hi Matt, I’m using sheepshaver ARM version on rasbian you can find your USB drive through the Unix partition or set it up as a shared folder i guess that should work too but I’m not sure yet. Serial support might be difficult
@@KevinNoki but its sadly just emulation would be really nice if someone would port it to raspberry pi natively even if then no external software works
Oh one other Question I've ben looking for a raspberry pi laptop 3dprinted case online but I had no luck. And I don't have Good 3d modeling skills. When you make the shell for the classic laptop can you send me a dow load link on my gmail or discord or something? Bucuse I'm getting really tired of searching and all I find is desktop shells. It would help me for my project of making my dream laptop thanks. I can send the blueprints that I drew so it could be more easy for you to make it and you could agust the size to make the rasbery pi fit it in with the kind of ports I would like. But the internals I could do I just need help with the case.

@@KevinNoki Do you plan to sell that wireless retro 1984 mouse? I have been looking for a similar product to buy. (Maybe a little bit less original one with two buttons similar to C64 mouse and probably with a scroll). I must say that RAL 7044 made my day. Thanks for that. You sand so fast, you don't need a belt sander! I'm impressed.
Made my day 😂 to be honest the sanding part ist just faster. FYI since last year I’m a happy owner of a belt sander 😃

Kevin, any chance you'd make the CAD files to this available for the public?
Yes please. Really enjoyed watching this creative video all the way through.

Super Awesome, how did you get a Macintosh to work on a Raspberry Pi I have tried but no luck.
Thank you! Try Sheepshaver :-)
Could you explain that "decal making" process? Is that a special paper? or tape? How does that work?
Ian McCullough Decal is actually a special foil that you can print on but I did mine with a simple Laserprinter, Tape and Water :-)
