Glad to see im not the only one who chose to split them! I've gone for 40mm frontage bases with 15mm of depth and a single half strip per base, with cavalry on 40x30mm bases and 3 horse per base.
Great vid Leon I was holding off on getting these but looking at what you've done here has completely sold me on getting them, thanks again for the entertaining content, 😁
Excellent painting you have great idea by cutting them in half, i will give it a go looking forward to your painting videos and to see your completed forces and lookin forward to the next update .
Many thanks for this tip on splitting the strips in half as I was planning to do the same as I also wanted to play games on a smaller table. Good idea with basing the cavalry in 3's, I am going to base all the heavy cavalry the same way and my light cavalry in 2's for quick identification. Keep up the great content..
I saw this video months back and i have used exact same basing fo my epic waterloo collection as well and i might add that as i use Age of eagles ruleset and brigade stands vary from 3 to ten+ bases so this method is very cost effective and of course looks great on the tabletop. thanks leon great video.
@@leont66wargaming31 Yeah the frontage is certainly an odd choice in many ways, I thought so with Epic ACW as well. I think what I’ve gathered is that they’re aiming for a certain ‘look’ visually for Epic, of real massed ranks rather than what we often see with smaller scales, just smaller bases but pretty much the same number of models as 28mm. I like the vision, but I think they could have gone somewhere in the middle and achieved both maybe. I considered cutting the bases down myself, but couldn’t face the tidying up afterwards, I’d have had to make a clean job of it or it would have niggled at me - yours look great though. I’m just going to use less stands on smaller tables though, I’m only planning on playing Black Powder I think, so I’m not so worried about representing companies as individual stands. But love what you’ve done.
Yep I agree I get what they’re aiming at. And yes it’d of been better if they’d of found some middle ground. With my ACW I just use 3 stands instead of 5. I suppose I could of done the same with these really lol. But the composition of the battalions for each army are quite different for Napoleonic so decided to cut them in half. The clean up isn’t to much hassle but yes I could live without it. Agreed one single base could easily represent a battalion and that gives the more grand armies epic encounters. That way you can play divisional battles as well. Lots of scope with these minis. I wonder how far they’ll take it? If we’ll see Russians or Austrians? Don’t think I could face painting more Austrians though hahaha
@@leont66wargaming31 Russians and Austrians would be amazing. I’ve thought that Epic as a project was always designed to be relatively big, but limited releases rather than ranges, so in many ways I wouldn’t expect more. I think it’s more likely we will see Epic ECW, Epic Agincourt, Epic Romans Vs ……etc first. But maybe if the Waterloo stuff is huge, they might be tempted to invest in a few more plastic frames, and if they could cover it in brigade boxes as a release then maybe they will. I feel that would work better than a ‘Epic Austerlitz’ or ‘Epic Borodino’ big release, I feel Waterloo will have taken the limelight for the period as a huge release.
Wow they look fantastic both painting and how you have set them up. I do agree with all you have said about the frontage compared with 28mm. Love to see painting guides. Thanks mate 😁👍

These are fantastic mate, I love what you’ve done for the Hanoverians, they look as though they come that way. Very nice Leon. It’s not tempting me though. We shall have fun seeing how much space 3rd Corps takes up when it’s finished. I think most of a 6 x4 table with 29 battalions of infantry 1 cavalry Division and 5 batteries of guns.
Thanks for the reply fair enough I'll try that I just didn't want to damage them just started getting into wargaming lol thanks for showing it in the video, I love what you've done for the Belgium's and hanovarians aswell great set
They look great mate. Top job. Odd decision by warlord not to do the dutch Belgians but you've come up with a good compromise. Hope to see you at Hammerhead the bat should be open so maybe grab a beer.
Great video, and the figures looks very nice too. I will also cut the bases, I am doing it with the USA Civil War right now, but my bases are 20mm x 20mm. I am planing to play Black Powder and Fire and Fury for USA Civil War and for Napoleonic I am planning to play other systems as well as Black Powder. I am thinking the same as you, I prefer to make it smaller, otherwise I would stay with 28mm.
Great video! Good to actually see how the infantry are (mostly) easy enough to split as I'm planning to do the same, half bases. I've decided though to stick with the BP basing conventions, 4 infantry bases per battalion and 3 cavalry per regiment, mostly because the rules I plan to use (Black Powder, General d'Armee and Bataille Empire) aren't concerned with companies, merely that all battalion frontages are the same. The varying strengths of battalions on both sides further reduces my concern about companies and differing frontages. A real bonus of using strict half sizes is that I literally get double the numbers of battalions and 12 cavalry regiments per side, 9 figures per regiment fitting nicely into the sprue caused figures count which leaves you with a quite a few left overs if going full size. I do plan to use 6 bases for large battalions though, vs the suggested 5 as it keeps things more symmetrical. As an aside, IIRC, the French attack column was actually deeper than it was wide, 2 companies wide, 3 deep (22 yards by 30 yards). The British trained for it as well, Grand Division, but didn't use it at Waterloo, hence the (if it's been retained from Albion Triumphant 2) the 'Cannot form Attack Column' special rule. Quite a few STLs coming out for Epic here: www.wargaming3d.com/vendor/mcminiatures/?fbclid=IwAR2eU-xX1Irj6qWwchiOG2BxeJ3-p9IZrCYhCcA-PnqxJ0EAwSmaP8-e9kk
Thanks Ed. Yes for Black powder I’d definitely go with the same as you and agree I’d probably go 6 bases for large as well. There are some nice 3D prints there. Hope he does Dutch line and militia at some point seeing as Warlord won’t be doing them. Extra command groups would be very useful as well.
@@leont66wargaming31 AFAIK he has plans to do the full range of options. He has a test sprue STL up that I’ve downloaded and sent to my pal to print (3D printing is something I simply can’t be asked to get into, my hobby queue is long enough as it is without adding that to it). I’ll be picking it up next week and will see how it looks and paints up. If it’s ok I’ll order the battalion STL (all half size) and just get the Command strips printed. At $18 for the battalion STL and less than $1 per command strip it will probably still work out cheaper than 40+ Minifigs figures plus postage. Plus I have the STL if I need to print off any extra flank companies or increase any battalions to Large.
I need to find someone with a 3D printer as well lol. Very tempted to buy one but I’m useless with tech hahaha. I reckon at some point in the near future it’ll be how we’re all buying our minis, as 3D files and printing ourselves. Definitely works out good value. And having extra Flank companies would be very useful. I’ll keep an eye out for other things he releases. I’ve seen a few posts on Facebook with these files.
@@leont66wargaming31 yeah. It’s something I am confident I COULD get going ok, esp a resin printer, but friends of mine that have both types warn that it’s really a hobby in itself with a steep learning curve. Given I don’t actually need that much printed stuff it’s just something I’m not prepared to add to the things that suck my time. I’m more of a gamer than a hobbyist and even see painting as somewhat of a chore, so I’m definitely not adding yet more distractions. That’s the reason I’ll probably pick up the Geek Villain roads (and rivers if they improve the design) and the Warlord Hedges.
Yep I see painting as a necessary evil, I’d much rather be gaming too. I like the Geek villain roads but I’m not keen on the rivers. I wish someone would bring out a decent mouse mat range. I think Deep cut studios do some but I don’t like the design of them. Them hedges do look interesting. I’ll be looking out to see if someone does a review of them. On the website it says requires assembly and painting? Be interesting to see how the come and what needs doing to them.
Fantastic paint job all-round, the Hanoverians look unmistakeably like tiny Hanoverians, great job. Inspiring as well. Edit: Nassau troops still used French gear and mostly covered french shakos, you could even make some Dutch light infantry with french Voltigeurs if u feel adventurous 😄 (Current day Limburgse Jagers, still using Green/Yellow on ceremonial ocasions).
These are fantastic. What size bases are you using, and where did you get them? I am a novice to Napoleonics, and it’s a tad overwhelming! Basing them like this seem like it makes the BP epics more flexible for other games as well.
One sprue and it already looks like a small 28mm army ! Nice work. …… the “F” obviously stands for “ front” so you know where to blob faces on the guys! 😂
napoleon had given an order to the entire infantry to form 2 ranks in 1813, I was going to base 5 man strips to make 3 ranks for the french but did some research.
Interesting. My research says only 2 battalions of the 85th ligne were formed in 2 ranks at Waterloo. The rest were still deployed in 3 ranks. Although Bonaparte did give this order in 1813 the armies in the peninsula still used the 3 rank deep system (according to what I could find) and armies led by Ney ignored the order. So much contradictory information out there lol.
@@leont66wargaming31 that's interesting yeah I think I read from the source about Spain and ney to be fair, do you think it's worth putting 4 strips on 10x30mm bases then you can create a 3rd rank or just put 3 ranks across 4 bases?
Yes that’d work I reckon. I don’t think there’s really a wrong way to do it with so much variety in information on the subject. Plus at the end of the day it’s only a game lol, so go with whatever makes you happy. I’ll probably go with 3 ranks deep still, just for the look if nothing else.

For when I'm doing head swaps and arm swaps sometimes there are small gaps I need to fill in?
Hi mate. The 1/72 won’t fit with 28mm. They’ll be to small. Much closer to 20mm. For making moulds. Go on to the green stuff world website and get yourself some blue stuff. I’m going to use it to cast some command stands for this Epic. It’s real easy to use. If I can find mine I’ll pop up a video. If I can’t find it I’ll have to order some more before doing the video lol.
Don't worry about the British length of line as they threw forward their Light Companies as skirmishers and they shot at the French way out front then ran back into squares at any threat of Cavalry. So they were not standing in line. As for the French 3 ranks you are representing 600-800 in 6 companies and the rules (unless they do in your version)do not use rank firing

Yes mate. I show how I cut them down in this video. It’s really easy to do. Just cut the base in half then wiggle the centre and they come apart
Thanks for the reply fair enough I'll try that I just didn't want to damage them just started getting into wargaming lol thanks for showing it in the video, I love what you've done for the Belgium's and hanovarians aswell great set
@@boomtaylor8297 thanks buddy
Fantanstic painting mate, i love british soldiers design!
Thanks buddy
Very nicely done buddy
Thanks Lib
Where do you get your mdf bases?
I get them from warbases
They look great mate. Top job. Odd decision by warlord not to do the dutch Belgians but you've come up with a good compromise. Hope to see you at Hammerhead the bat should be open so maybe grab a beer.
Thanks mate.
Wait… stop the press. There’s a bar lol.
@@leont66wargaming31 oh yes.
THANKS BUDDY
Thanks John
Great video, and the figures looks very nice too.
I will also cut the bases, I am doing it with the USA Civil War right now, but my bases are 20mm x 20mm. I am planing to play Black Powder and Fire and Fury for USA Civil War and for Napoleonic I am planning to play other systems as well as Black Powder. I am thinking the same as you, I prefer to make it smaller, otherwise I would stay with 28mm.
Thanks buddy. Yep it makes sense to cut them down. With my ACW I use 3 bases instead of 5. But I might cut them down as well now.
A great vid!
Thanks buddy
Terrific job you've made of those. Not sure my eyes would cope these days. Actually I am sure- they would'nt!
Lol. Thanks Martin
So these are now 30x20mm bases now and 30x25mm for the cavalry?
They are yes. However I’m going to rebase them at some point so I can make them more scenic like my ACW. They’ll all be on 30x40 bases then.
Great. I like the rounded corners on the bases where do you get those or do you round them yourself?
Thanks Peter. Got them from Warbases.
Is there a place to get some extra commamd sprue when cutting down the stands?
There is a company that does 3D stl files but you’ll need access to a 3D printer
@@leont66wargaming31 ok great. I'm getting one next month. Appreciate the reply
No worries mate. Check out
“Wargaming 3D” they sell the files
Awesome
Thanks buddy
Fantastic paint job all-round, the Hanoverians look unmistakeably like tiny Hanoverians, great job.
Inspiring as well. Edit: Nassau troops still used French gear and mostly covered french shakos, you could even make some Dutch light infantry with french Voltigeurs if u feel adventurous 😄 (Current day Limburgse Jagers, still using Green/Yellow on ceremonial ocasions).
Thanks mate. Yes I was thinking of some Nassau lol. I’ll end up with too many allies lol.
@@leont66wargaming31 Lol, best allies 😆
Did I miss it... Are they 30mm frontage?
Yes mate. 30mm
Very nice painting and basing Leon. So how long before these are up for sale and you move on to your next project?
Thanks mate. Hahaha who knows lol.
Amazing stuff Painting is top notch Leon , Really enjoying painting these myself Jk
Thanks JK. Nice little minis aren’t they
These are fantastic. What size bases are you using, and where did you get them? I am a novice to Napoleonics, and it’s a tad overwhelming! Basing them like this seem like it makes the BP epics more flexible for other games as well.
Thanks Jeremy. Im using 30x20 bases for the infantry and 30x25 for the cavalry. I get them from Warbases. Yep definitely makes them more flexible
Very nice Leon. Have a look at David Napoleonic STL files. He's done Hanoverians and you can get the files adjusted to 13.5mm for printing
Thanks buddy. I’ll take a look
One sprue and it already looks like a small 28mm army ! Nice work. …… the “F” obviously stands for “ front” so you know where to blob faces on the guys! 😂
😂 that’s it exactly Karl 😂
Where do you get your bases. Do you make them or do you buy them?
Hi Andrew. I get them from Warbases.
@@leont66wargaming31 thanks
@@leont66wargaming31 what size did you use. Was just looking at there website
The infantry bases are 30x20 and the cavalry are 30x25
You could have different sizes for all the nations and alter the fire effect per base.
I’ve not played BP enough to foresee any problems.
Yes definitely. That is one of the advantages with these Epic minis I think
napoleon had given an order to the entire infantry to form 2 ranks in 1813, I was going to base 5 man strips to make 3 ranks for the french but did some research.
I want this collection
Definitely worth getting
Ya not selling in Indonesia 🇮🇩 or Singapore 🇸🇬
That’s a pity
@@leont66wargaming31 true
Two French or British companies were a “division” to form a column of divisions.
Cool
These are outstanding great work again. Have you ever thought about doing the US war of 1812???
Thanks buddy. Yes I have mate. It would be great if they ever made forces for the US troops of the period.
@@leont66wargaming31 I'm thinking of doing it myself as for the US forces it can be done with edits ( conservations) as it's called shouldn't overly difficult??? Am running behind and late with my AWI project should have new vids up this week I been busy as I got a baby chinchilla at the weekend 😁
Nice. Maybe someone will bring out 3D prints for the war of 1812.
Haha yep they’re cute looking little dudes.
@@leont66wargaming31 it'll be great if Perry or Warlords would just look in-to it. Is like the forgotten war... I need your wisdom on something as my US continentals are meant to be 1/72 but they are 1/76 so would 28mm fit with them? Next is there a gel mold? For when I'm doing head swaps and arm swaps sometimes there are small gaps I need to fill in?
Hi mate. The 1/72 won’t fit with 28mm. They’ll be to small. Much closer to 20mm.
For making moulds. Go on to the green stuff world website and get yourself some blue stuff. I’m going to use it to cast some command stands for this Epic. It’s real easy to use. If I can find mine I’ll pop up a video. If I can’t find it I’ll have to order some more before doing the video lol.
AWESOME! Ive been struggling painting these. Took me a whole weekend to paint 8 strips! Please share your secret :O
Thanks Josh. Yep took me a while to get to grips with them. I’ll be doing a load of how I paint guides. Starting with the Rifles
Thanks for the input buddy
What rules do you use?
Hi Andrew. I use my own rules
Some of the best content on the subject, but MAN the mouth sounds are driving me up a wall.
I think I’ll have to get a new mic. Never used to have that problem on earlier video. I think this one is too sensitive
@@leont66wargaming31 i was hopping around in your back log, and it doesn't seem to be the case. It's generally cause by mouth movements, hydration, and mic distance/position.
It's something voice actors have to constantly struggle with. Since I had it pointed out to me after a recording session, I can't not hear it in everything I listen to, and it's become a pet peeve, like chewing noises. Look around for eliminating mouth noise videos, it's a whole rabbit hole.
I'm sure you can mitigate most of it without dropping more cheddar on a new mic. Keep up the good work my man. Love your stuff. Inspired me to grab some 15mm just today.
Thanks buddy. I’ll certainly try to keep an ear out from now on. Might try just using the mic on the phone rather than the headphones
I think your French should be two companies wide and 3 companies deep.
Thanks Nic. Yep that’d work. I’ll try it out when I get them based up
