- Former Vice President Joe Biden is facing questions over claims that he took part in the civil rights movement as a student in the 1960s.
Shaun King, a prominent surrogate for Sen. Bernie Sanders (and former Intercept columnist), drew attention to Biden’s often confusing and at times contradictory statements about what role he played as a young man in the struggle for racial equality in his home state of Delaware.
During Biden’s first run for the presidency, in 1987, the then-senator frequently described himself as a teenage civil rights activist, only to withdraw those claims later. More than three decades later, having served under the first black president, Biden seems to have reversed himself again, and now describes himself as a participant in desegregation protests in his youth.

You know who else wasn’t 100% for school busing? The black community. Seriously. Look up the stats from the late 60s early 70s regarding the actual effectiveness of busing. Part of the African American community wasn’t for it either. It’s only effective for communities that are ready for it. There’s nothing racist about that. It’s quixotic to assume integration would have occurred without any pandemonium or pause. Even AFTER grilling Biden about it at the Democratic debate, Kamala Harris admitted she wasn’t 100% for busing either.

That's the dominant form of bigotry. Flags, symbols, hateful rhetoric and plans are a very small part of it. It's the culture that perpetuates it. A culture that refuses to be honest about it's history or critically examine itself.
I mean, how else do ya get people to consciously and subconsciously buy into a bigoted pseudo scientific social construct like he concept of "race" where lines are drawn along arbitrary superficial characteristics and that was initially used in Europe to prop up and justify monarchs, aristocracies, and the brutality inflicted on neighboring areas before leaping an ocean to morph in to the caste system of "race" here in the Americas to prop up and justify the exploitation of all by colonial settlers and their states? Can't tell em the truth about it! So ya gotta slip it in and make it seem like a natural law.
That's why so many struggles for "progress" fail so miserably. Ya can't reform parts without fundamentally changing the core. Ya can't solve the problem of harmful social constructs by making new ones or being "proud" of being a part of or calling for "power" for lower ranking parts of the caste. I don't want "black" power any more than "white" power or queer pride any more than I do straight pride. I want us to treat each other with dignity and respect regardless of what we look like, how we present, who we sleep with, etc. GSM is only relevant with the existence of a cishetero dominant culture, "black" is only relevant in the face of "white" supremacy, hell, even xenophobia is only a problem in a world where imaginary lines in the dirt are held as sacred and cultural chauvinism is the norm, so I don't care to define myself in opposition to those social constructs as much as who I want to be as a free person. I don't want a new box to lock myself into, I wanna abolish the box system of identity and domination. There is no better way to undermine and eliminate the walls that divide us and make us easy prey for power than to stop treating them as if they were real when they're simply not based in material reality.

Though some citizens of Delaware were sympathetic to the South and joined the army of Virginia or Maryland, by far, the majority of soldiers from Delaware were union soldiers. Thats the God’s honest truth. Everybody that didn’t have money was a slave. That’s the only way they could get a piece of property. When they’d work off their debt, which took anywhere from 3 to 7 years, depending upon whether they traveled here from another country or lived here and sold themselves into servitude to be able to buy a piece of property. Not all slaves were treated poorly either, yes some were, but not all. Not most. Only the wealthy owned slaved. Even black slaves sang a song… that goes “you can’t build nothing on sand, I rather be a n*gg*r than be a poor white man.” Poor whites hated slavery about as much as the black man because slavery disenfranchised poor whites. Slaves took jobs from poor whites. Poor whites in south fought to end slavery. They fought for states rights but the poor fought to end slavery. Poor whited couldn’t read, they didn’t own property, and weren’t allowed to vote. Poor whites were held to all of the same black codes, “jim crow” laws that black were, including vagrancy laws. They were whipped on the whipping post on court house lawn too. If you stole something you got whipped, a piece of candy, a Slice of bread, even men that beat their wives were whipped on the whipping post. That’s how they kept law and order back then. Whipping posts were not for colored people. Everybody got whipped for breaking the law. Another fun fact, a lot of the scars on their backs from being whipped were already there when they got here from doing tribe rituals. Even the women. People don’t like to hear that, but it’s true. I’m not saying blame people weren’t mistreated, because a lot of them were, but not all. The white man didn’t go to Africa to buy up land and take the settlers, they didn’t go and hunt for slaves either. Muslims invade North and west Africa, and any black person that wouldn’t convert to Islam was sold into slaves by Muslims. A lot of people don’t realize that most were already Christians. On the ship coming from Africa, to America, the captain would stop in the water right before they stuck land and baptized every black person on the ship. Because a Christian could not be bound to servitude foe life. That’s a fact! We didn’t convert them from their religion because they were already Christians. The captains might not have know that because I’m sure there was a language barrier, but no person of color was allowed to enter the US without becoming a Christian. We even bought Liberia for them. Long before slavery ended. Because the ones at that time, most had already worked off their debt. So many were sent to Liberia, but it was too hard. They wrote back to the states wanting to come back, and we sent for them. Which is the stupidest think we could’ve done after buying the country We should’ve done was went back, with the materials and helped them build there, their houses, their municipal building, their churches and school houses, there stores, We could’ve traded with them, Liberia is know for gum trees that’s used to make tires. The country is rich in natural resources which include iron ore, diamonds, gold, fertile soil, fishery, and forestry. The economic potential of these assets remains largely untapped.

As a child, i also lived through all of this. I was not racist at all, not even as a teenager and young and middle age adult, but as a senior now and i do feel more so now because of all this polictal propaganda that is being spewed at us 24 7 through the media and these extreme left wing race baiters. I was always a Democrat, i am now a swing voter. I am voting for the one that will not race bate and bring our country together to help all legal Americans.
