I was about 22 years old when this happened, I listened to the whole hearing for several days, I was so proud of Clarence Thomas standing up for himself. When a women never filed civil charges against someone and it never goes to criminal court it should not be tried in congress with a hearing. There is due process in this country, and the fact that certain politicians like to pay off people to make false claims is atrocious,

Clarence Thomas' statement is stunning in its eloquence, clarity, and honesty. Have always held respect for the man, but viewing this once more has just multiplied that respect tenfold. Those hearings were shameful at the time and were aimed at destroying his integrity and humiliating and permanently damaging his reputation simply due to his constitutional beliefs, beliefs the founding fathers would have admired. How sad and telling that 32 years later, the head of that committee and his party are still employing the same tactics today but with greater weaponization of gov agencies. Disgraceful.

I never heard of Clarence Thomas until he was nominated for the Supreme Court. I wasn't sure if his testimony was honest. Over the years having time to learn more about him, I am 110% confident he was slandered by Anita Hill and she was either paid to make her claims or threatened to do so.

Politicians talking about ethics when they are driven mostly by lobbying is quite amazing.
That's why fines are just cost of doing business for companies. Fines in general are regressive unless they are income based. Speeding and all other fines are no big deal if you are wealthy. I couldn't believe it when the supreme court denied the case during 2020 to not look into the 18 states' claim that the election was not properly conducted in other states. Thomas voted to accept it and wrote a disagreement with the court saying how he thought it was a big mistake to not accept that case.

The best thing we could possibly do is to have every candidate for Congress and other federal jobs complete an application for federal employment. As a past employee I did and part of the process is a complete background check. Drug use, criminal background, past employment, etc all verified. These people serve on committees that have complete access to classified top secret documents. There is NO reason not to do this immediately. Millions of federal employees have to do this. What is the cost of of this compared to sharing of classified information? Bonus: we would not have George Santos from NY to deal with or anyone like him in the future.
