The most notable team's improvement happened on Zhang, Yuan and Li, making the team even sharper and lessening Zhu's work loads... more balanced burden sharing among the line-up starters.

I think that coach specifically appointed to take care of "setting" things while head coach Manabe deal with the team in general. You can see the other setter "Koto H." Are there too.
Of course, overall, the Chinese are a better team having experienced players. Yet, I'm surprised by the fantastic fight put up by the younger & less tall Japanese girls .

Japan had a strong team back then. There was Saori and Nagaoka. I like the physical bodies of Japanese players, they look slim and full. I like bodies like that😋. It's just that Japanese players are not tall. very difficult against china, they are the best team in the world. and have zhu ting as the best spiker in the world.
