    My wife was given an 05 silver model from her grandmother's Arizona winter home after she sold the home. Such a weird little car. It eventually fell apart at the seams and while it was running, we were constantly fixing something on it. Honestly, we changed headlight bulbs weekly. Even after all the trouble it gave us, I still kind of miss it. Maybe it was the weird proportions and the invisible but unforgettable presence it had. Such a goofy warm little ride. RIP

      I had a white 05 and that was my first car. I loved that car so much and I had to eventually get rid of it because it was falling apart at the seams. I sold it to a family that did not have a car for $500 and I still talk with them and they still are giving that car lots of love to this day! While I drive a BMW wagon now, I still miss my Malibu

  • @danieljones1861

    I own and drive the same model. A white 2004 LT. Being a more obscure kind of car, I never expected it to show up on this channel. It was really interesting seeing what the redisign ended up looking like. I agree that it is definitely quirky in terms of looks (the rear obviously, as well as a sunroof being standard for the rear seats, but only optional for the front), but I can appreciate it because it makes it stand out from everything else.
    It has never really given me any major problems, and it is pretty easy and fun to drive. There are a few gripes I have with it, such as the obscured rear visibility and the button being hidden off center on the trunk/boot when I'm trying to open it. But regardless, I don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon. I actually named it since it is my first car. I named it Alex, as a play on words because it has a GM LX9 engine.

    Your redesign came out as a big improvement. It actually reminds me alot of a car I owned a few years back, one that was always one of my favorite wagon designs: The Mazda Protege5. It was a really great design, it had great proportions, and it was a really fun car to drive around. I had hoped they would give the Protege5 the Mazdaspeed treatment, but they never did, so I did it myself, with the larger Mazdaspeed Protege 5 spoke wheels and Mazdaspeed lowering springs. It was a GREAT looking little hatch.

    When you stretched the rear roof, the zoomed in D pillar reminded me of that signature GTI boomerang that spans across generations. The final design would be a good competitor to a Crosstrek. All it needs is a rear decal that says Maxx.

    The maxx shared the same weirdness as the SSR, fun times for Chevy in the early 2000’s. Also, Dodge Caliber would have been a competitor but came late after the last year of the maxx production.

      Chevy didn’t want to compete with its own HHR which competed with the PT Cruiser, so what is the Maxx? Let’s just say Chevy did it first and the Kia EV6 did it better.

  • @weatherwarriormedia
    @weatherwarriormedia 3 роки тому

    Must be young and totally don’t understand, the Maxx was never marketed as a “wagon”. The stretched wheelbase was to allow for wider rear seat capacity because the wheel hump intrudes way less. Longer wheelbase also meant a much better ride quality. Additionally…market was WEAK for wagons. But there was a stronger and stronger SUV market based on cars (what we now know as crossovers). This was a simple way to bring an alternative vehicle with minimal retooling.
    The comparisons are completely off. The Magnum was a REAR wheel drive vehicle. The proportions did NOT need fixing. If you want to have a MUCH closer comparison, the Dodge Caliber was much closer in design concept and market (although smaller segment).
    Hell, should do a Dodge Caliber episode!

    The problem is that the magnum and older caprice wagon were rwd and I believe the volvo was too, where the Malibu was fwd. So it would have been hard to reduce the front overhang with the motor and trans up there. Why the rear overhang is screwed, I have no clue, I got nothing lol.
