  • Songkran party 2022 at Talat Phlu street food market. Lots of fun and games around the market and by the canal. I took a walk around the neighbourhood and found two historic temples, lots of khlongs, lots of wildlife and a great celebration for Thai new year Songkran 2022!

    A poem for Bangkok Pat:
    Think beyond a shopping mall
Khao Shan, Bang Sue, Thong Lor
    He's got it all
    What are you waiting for?
    He talks about history
    Reveals all the mysteries
Look out for the ghost story
    He loves the city cats
    His name is Bangkok Pat

Watched this video a few days ago then watched it again last night to share with my wife. We had done a coastal cycling trip back in 2016 that we began from the Wong Wian Yai station. We loved the way the neighborhood embraced the station and single strand of track and had a lovely local breakfast on the platform. On separate excursions we have visited Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen. We were there before they began the giant Buddha construction and then again when it was just the underlying support armature. Can't wait to go back and see the finished piece in person. But our favorite part of the temple grounds was the amazing green crystal interior of the top floor of the stupa. Between the overwhelming amount of translucent green and the day-glo murals I could not quite make out whether it is a peaceful vision of heaven or a jarring preview of hell. Another excellent video and tour that brought back some lovely memories for us and inspiration to return to the are to explore further. Thank you, sir...Cheers!

Another good quality video. You could make a full video just on those two temples, both have loads of history and incredible inside. By the way, not for the faint at heart, another way to get to/ from Talat Phlu is taking bus 111. That is an experience itself. That bus goes through lots of smaller Sois throughout the area and eventually goes pass Icon Siam (get on going east).

    • @BangkokPat
      @BangkokPat  2 роки тому +1

Thanks Richard, those temples could easily fill a video each, I kept them brief for that very reason, I could have gone on a bit more! One day I will do a video on temples and will go further on those two. I used to ride the buses all the time 20yrs ago, I had the bus routes map I had to unfold each time, not much fun in rainy season in the evenings, trying to find some light! Had some interesting adventures, will do a video about my first bus ride back in 2001 when I got lost on the 92!

Great video, I'm surprised everyone is wearing masks. Are infections up?
I don't think I see many mask in Pattaya video's.

Masks are like a religion here, positive test results are up and down between 20-25k per day but this narrative is wearing very thin indeed.

The best thing about Bangkok, you can get a bus to Laos, China, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Singapore. You can get a ferry to Indonesia, the Phillipines, without ever getting on a plane. I love travelling overland. Fifty four hours on a train across China, bring it on! I can't think of a better way of spending a weekend.

to where do the boats go...??? can we reach from the main chaophraya river via public boat ?...i like "a gentle spread of water"...makes me smile...the last time that gentle spread was a ton of water that i received at every street corner at least twice a minute...
since that " experience" I stay well away from bkk in songkran

Another place I now have to visit because of your channel damn you Pat. Have always been curious where those subway-like trains came from. My least favorite style of train in Thailand. Oddly you never see them in the south of Thailand. They remind me of the old subway trains out of New York city I traveled on years ago.

Talat Phlu SRT Station will become a major tourist attraction thanks to the movie How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
BKK Pat, have you seen the movie and what do you think of it?
