1977 GE FilterFlo Washer Full Cycle (18 Minute Wash) #2

  • -- The second and final load from 09/17/16 in the 1977 GE FilterFlo washing machine. This load was a permanent press load and balanced significantly better than the first. I also put some foam where the cabinet was rattling so now this washer is the quietest FilterFlo I have ever heard, even with the lid open though I am unimpressed by the straight-vane agitator.

Attachment to equipment, (like washers), used to be considered abnormal, Now its considered a (great) therapy tool for insomnia! Great job in keeping this old classic running...🙂🙂🙂

Yep, I have one left me by my aunt, same washer same year 1977, definitely one of the best of the old school washers. I love this thing, ive been stocking up on N.O.S. parts on ebay so I can keep it going as long as possible. I was there the day she got it, it was her first automatic washer, the one before was a maytag ringer washer, in 1977 imagine that-! Alas my outer wash tub is starting to rust at the top so one day it wont be repairable, but ive sealed it and replaced a few parts for the first time in 40 years. Mines got a new pump which had started to leak from its bearing, a new upper tub gasket under the machine top to stop a minor leak when the tub was completely full, a new belt even though the old one is actually still good believe it or not. I also installed a new water control valve, new agitator coupling, lower transmission seal with new updated synthetic gear oil. None of the parts for it are available from GE, I had to get everything online from NOS sources. I know one day I will have to replace it, so while I still could I bought a worthy successor, a new Speed Queen commercial duty which sits right next to it, both get used off and on so the old girl doesn't feel left out-lol

Compared to the mediocre washers on today's market, I'm sure this washer still works. Thanks for posting. 🎖️💯

Sooner or later they got to bring back those style washers again. The newer ones just don't out last that long.

I just picked up an 80 series Kenmore washer from 1999. Any washing machine made after 2010 is complete garbage and won't last long. Now that it's 2019 is your beautiful washer still working? Please let me know :)

That's great it still works, but a washer that old must be filthy inside. You would need to do a thorough cleaning everywhere including the filters and a deep clean of the basin. You will need white vinegar, baking soda, and bleach to clean an old washer, but tobe used sepatetely with a rinse in between. Your clothes won't be clean if your washer is not. I'd keep it to wash car carpet mats, athetic shoes, and other really dirty items. Old dryers are not worth keeping because of high electricity costs. If you have city water, and wash alot of clothes a new front-loading washer will pay for itself in a year or two.

Jenny M I have a 1975 Whirlpool dryer with the lint filter on the top. It has the same wattage heating element as a Whirlpool 29” dryer made in 2020. There is no difference in efficiency because there is no such thing as a high-efficiency dryer. In fact, the older one has a thicker cabinet and might even be slightly better at retaining heat. It also has an electronic sensor control that “feels” the dryness of the clothes; if a dryer is working fine, it certainly is worth keeping.
