Since ther arent really any "new" ideas to me when they say "good artists borrow great artists steal", to me the implication is that if somoone is sufficiently good they become the person everyone associates wth that idea or style even if the innovators came generations before.
To me Knopflers guitar solos sometimes sound like magic. As if he was not even using scales. It might be the arpeggios but still it sounds as if it was sth different...

The moment I get stuck is when I try to figure out which tuning I should use, I can not hear in a song which tuning they use. Do you have any tips for how I can hear the different tunings?
