    Hello
    I wanted to ask if there is any universities that give conditional acceptance for learning the language or if they have Institute in their university to learn the language

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  3 місяці тому

      Generally in order to enroll you need to have the minimum level they require because you will need to be able to understand the classes from the first semester. However, there are some universities that have Spanish language learning programs that you could do first to get better before you start studying

    Hey there, im interested in studying in spain, an undergraduate course fully taught in english since im unfamiliar with the Spanish language. Is there any way I could avoid taking any Spanish entrance exams? Or should i be looking for another country to study in?

      If you really want English-only for undergrad in Spain, your best bets are the private business schools like IE or ESADE, perhaps Navarra. Some CEU programs can be all English. But if you're not beholden to Spain, you'll have a way easier time finding programs in the Netherlands and Germany. Almost everything in the Netherlands is in English, Germany it's a little more hit or miss.

    I'm about to graduate from high school soon and I would like to apply to study in Spain translation and interpreting, preferably in the north of the country since I'm not a huge fan of such climate but I'm sure I also would survive somewhere in Madrid. I started learning Spanish almost a year ago, I'm currently at b1 but I think I have enough time to achieve b2 or c1. I have 2 citizens, one of them is Romanian, so basically I can be considered as a eu student. I read that eu students don't need to pass any entrance exams, is that true?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  8 місяців тому +1

      EU students still have to pass exams for public universities in a lot of cases, heck even most Spanish students will take them so having EU citizenship has nothing to do with it. It depends on where you got your education, and whether or not your base grades are high enough for admission. If you want medicine in Madrid, you need to take exams, even if you have perfect grades.

      Thanks for asking! I checked out the UPF site for you and didn't see any specific requirements. It looks like you should create an account at Catalonia's portal here: accesuniversitat.gencat.cat/accesuniversitat/login if you want to apply. Perhaps in there you will find more information.
      However, on the giant list that I showed in this video (www.sepie.es/aplicaciones-web/i18n/html/tablagrados.html), it says for several of the all-English study programs that they recommend a B2 in English, so you will probably need that level. It seems like their business programs are exclusively in English, so you might not need to show proof of Spanish or the requirements won't be very high.

    Hello, I’m a college student in the United States looking to study in Spain. I’ve already done two years of community college here but I want to go study over there. Would you recommend going as a foreign student or as a european citizen?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Рік тому +1

      If you have dual nationality in Europe, apply with that nationality. But you will still have to do the same process as any foreigner would really, because your education system is from another country. If you're looking to transfer, that's pretty tricky. In our experience, private universities tend to be more generous with transfers than public ones. They don't tend to transfer a lot of credit in general, at best maybe a year of studies. Some branches don't allow for transfers period, like we've found psychology and medicine practically impossible to transfer into. But if you want to apply as a first-year student, that's an option too.

    The US sucks. Weather here in the northeast sucks.
    Everything is expensive unless you want to work all the time, then you can't spend time with family and friends because you are always tired.
    Pursuing higher education sucks because it's so expensive. I could go on, but I won't I will just watch this video and see how the Spanish live it up with super-affordable higher education and nice weather. Along with a healthy life-work balance.

I am a non-EU from the Philippines and graduated with a bachelor's degree but lack experience required to be qualified as a skilled worker. I just want to work in a hotel.

      They're not a bad school, but they're small. They only have 2 undergrad programs and mostly they focus on their MBAs. They're relatively new (2014) so they don't have a ton of recognition yet or very high rankings as a result. They do have some partnerships with universities in the UK, so that's cool. If you want business in Barcelona specifically, put it on your list.

      @score-yourcollegecounselor  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Fatma! Public university admissions for masters are much simpler than the undegraduate admissions process. I didn't discuss masters in this video, but what you should do is first think about where you would like to live and what kind of master you want to study. Look for universities in the area and then see if they have the program you want.
      As far as the IELTS, that will depend on the university. You may need to email them to ask or look for their policy. For many masters programs if your undergraduate degree is from an English speaking country, then you can be exempt from the IELTS.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  3 роки тому

      Thanks for asking! Right now most universities are being very flexible because they know there are lots of delays with the COVID situation. You may be able to sign up for the exam using your passport number instead of your NIE number. If the NIE number will stay the same, you could use that and bring the proof that the renewal is in process, that should be good enough. I would recommend calling UNED and asking what they prefer, but you should totally be able to take the test even if your card is expired. Since many foreign students take their tests with a passport number I think that would be the easiest option.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Рік тому

      So I actually looked this up, and you can do the homologation for a GED, the only problem is that you won't be considered at the same level as a typical student. So you wouldn't be able to take the PCEs straight away.
      They ask for at least 4 of the core courses in your program Literatura, Historia, Geografía, Latín, Griego, Filosofía, Ciencias Naturales, Matemáticas, Física, Química. They mention which courses can satisfy that requirement.
      Like a regular diploma, you'll need an apostille and official translation. I agree with you, it does suck, but there is some good news!
      I found another useful link that mentions what you can do with only a 4th ESO. which is what the GED gets homologated too (see the first link), it seems there is a "ciclo formativo" that you could enroll in and then be able to study at university there. Alternatively, you could apply to a US university in Spain, like SLU Madrid.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  2 роки тому +1

      Hey! Thanks for asking. So it seems the public university doesn't have a dentistry program. But the CEU Cardenal Herrera does! You can apply there directly without taking the PCE exams since it's a private university. You should contact them now to ask what documents they need from you. You might have to do the "homologacion de estudios" by sending your high school documents to your local Spanish Embassy.
      If you want to do engineering at the public university you have to take the PCEs and do the Homologacion procedure, no exceptions. So you should get started with the homologacion because it can take a while, and you can't register for the PCEs without starting that process.
      As far as tuition goes, CEU is reasonable, and actually the Cardenal Herrera one has a full scholarship available for international students. One of our students actually got that full ride scholarship this year! The public university would be cheaper but it's also more difficult to get in because of the PCEs. If you also have Spanish nationality, or another European nationality, then the public university becomes a LOT cheaper and would be a very good choice.

      Depends on the region and university to be honest. What you want to do is look up the cuadro de ponderaciones. That tells you which exams have more weight for specific majors. You always want to take as many tests as you can that give you 0.2 instead of 0.1, since that'll give you more points in the end for your final score. You can check out an example at UCM here:

If it's just a language course then I don't think they would ask you for a B2 if your goal is to learn Spanish. However, if you were looking for some kind of advanced Spanish course then they might ask you to show a more basic level to make sure you won't be far behind other people.

      Oh ok cool! For full undergraduate courses, it'll depend how much Spanish is in there. If all your courses are in English except the language courses, then they probably won't ask you for a B2. But if they have a few other courses in Spanish, they might. They may also just use their own evaluation. A lot of private Spanish universities have their own exams they use for languages so you don't necessarily have to go and take the official one. Send Nebrija an email if you're not sure.

They ask for a 6.5 minimum (no less than 5.5 in any section) to qualify for the English 6 level in their country. Or 7 (minimum 6 per section) for level 7.

      Hey Alex! So there have been some changes to Spanish student visa laws, I'm actually working on a script for an update video. In our experience, it's better to get the student visa from your home country if you can. While the law does allow you to convert your visa to a student visa from Spain, there's not a clear procedure for doing so and you'll likely need to hire a lawyer over there to figure it out. It's a very new process and it's not well defined. A couple of SCORE students were able to do it but they got lawyers to help them out.

    how I can apply for medical university in Spain? and do they accept full scholarship from student in Philippines?

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  3 роки тому

      Nice question! So "grado en medicina" takes 6 years in most places. It's probably going to be taught in Spanish, although some private schools may have courses in English. For public schools you'll need to do the PCEs or EBAU that are equivalent to the Spanish Science Baccalaureate. Private universities like this one even have an exam that's just for medicine students.
      www.uchceu.es/nuevo-alumno/proceso-admision-grado/medicina
      As far as scholarships go, if you're going to a public university you've got the same Spanish government scholarships as everyone else. Since the cost is relatively low, like 7000 euro a year, they don't usually offer more scholarships. Look around to see if there are specific scholarships for Filipinos or if you have any kind of agreement between universities in your country and in Spain. Given the cultural history, there might be something for you.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  3 роки тому

      Sure! So this link has a list of degree programs in universities in Spain, I don't know how complete it is, but it's from the government so it should be fairly comprehensive. If you search "medicine" you'll see some options.
      www.sepie.es/aplicaciones-web/i18n/html/tablagrados.html
      And this page explains how scholarships work in Spain. Again, if you're looking to go to a public university, you probably can't get a full scholarship in most cases. But these scholarships are available to everyone:

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  3 роки тому

      You're welcome! If you're thinking of starting in 2023 then you should start thinking about what universities you want to apply to. Email them and ask if they have any other scholarships or financial aid. Spanish universities take a while to respond, we often have to wait like 2-3 months to get an answer. So maybe some of them have other scholarships or plans to launch new ones, if you ask now maybe you can find some more options and make plans.
      You could also see if a local university has a partnership with a Spanish one. Sometimes you can study abroad for a year or two and only pay the same as you pay locally. One of my friends is actually doing that in the Netherlands!
      In our experience, though, most of the time there aren't a lot of full scholarships because the government is already putting money into the schools to make them more affordable.

    I am an Irish student but have been told by UNED that I may have to take PCE exams. I don't understand as I am a European graduate. I am so confused and they have been so unhelpful

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! So it is possible that you might have to take them, although it will depend on the university. You need to find out what the "nota de corte" is from the Spanish public universities you want to apply to. That is the grade that the lowest person who entered the year before had.
      Then you need to figure out what your grades are in the Spanish system. There should be a reliable conversion scale from your EU country to their system.
      Then, you compare the grades. If you're over the nota de corte, you should be good. But if not, you may still need to take some PCEs to get over that hump.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  2 роки тому +1

      You're welcome! So the PCEs are typically done in May but then there's a second round in August-September if I'm not mistaken. That seems really late to get your results back though, do Irish students that stay in Ireland usually just apply later? Or do you start applying before those results come back? I'm curious because Ireland is on my list of countries to cover for 2022.
      I would write to the public unis in Spain that you're interested in now to see what they recommend. They can take a while to reply so the sooner the better. You might be able to start the application process and take the PCEs even before getting your final results in.

      @@score-yourcollegecounselor Thanks! In Ireland we have this thing called the CAO (Central Applications Office) and students must fill out their preferences for which courses they want to do and that's finalised in the start of Feb. Basically we take our end of year exam (Leaving Certificate) in June through out the whole month as we typically have 7 subjects. Once we are finished, we have to wait until August 13th when our results are sent to our schools for us to collect them. We choose the 5 best grades which will give us a number depending on grade (max being 625) With this score the Universities you applied to will either let you in if you have adequate marks or deny you. Some courses require certain subjects to be taken and certain grades. Collage starts in early September. The reason the grades take so long to come back is as the grades every year must fit a bell curve, so only a few fail and only a few get full marks. If you fail maths you fail your whole leaving cert and if you don't get enough points from your leaving cert you can either do your final year again and retake the exam next year, or take a PLC (Post Leaving cert Course) to boost your points from the prior year. It's kind of complicated and is a severely flawed system as they change the marking scheme of the exams if too many people get high results.

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  2 роки тому

      Wow! That is way more complex than what I figured. Thanks for explaining it. That sucks though cause like you say if it has to fit a curve then somebody is failing every year nomatter what and that puts some people at a real disadvantage.
      So what's considered a good score over there out of 625 and what kind of score are universities expecting? And are gap years common then since some people will have to do that PLC or retake the exams? I'm thinking that if you wanted to study abroad and you don't get your results until August that you'd almost have to do a gap year with some countries.

    do you still have to take the PCE exam if you have more than 30 credit that transfer over? How would you recommend studying for the PCE exams? I feel like i’ll have trouble with the history of spain exam

    • @score-yourcollegecounselor
      @score-yourcollegecounselor  Рік тому +1

      So if you're entering as a transfer, you usually still have to take the PCEs. Your transfer credit gets determined after you enter, and to be honest, don't expect much. We have helped people transfer only to be told that none of their previous credit would be considered, and this is after they had like 3 years in university. It's very case-by-case and the public universities in Spain are not good with communication.
      As far as preparing for the test, I definitely recommend checking out the guides and temarios on UNED's website. They have one for each course, here's the History course: unedasiss.uned.es/archivos_publicos/AccesoExtAsignaturasExamen/100765/guiahistoriadeespana2122.pdf

      Hi Julius! Thanks for asking. That depends on the exact tests she took for the PCE. There are tests for "sociales" "ciencias" and "artes". So if she took the exams for "ciencias", for example, she could start applying to universities that offer those programs. You definitely want to start applying now because the deadline is July 5th. You can do a "pre-inscription" and finish uploading documents by the end of July.
      This site has a list of all the programs that are offered with courses in English, if that helps:
