this is the isle of man tt (tourist trophy) also known as the deadliest race in the world (the isle of man is a beautiful small island between wales and south ireland). this is a timed race, its 37miles long and all you have to do is come in with the fastest time. since its 1907 inception over 247 racers and fans have died, averaging 2 deaths per year. speeds are in excess of 160mph. practice starts in the last week of may and the races are in the first week of june. races are held, not on a track, but on country roads with buildings, trees and stone walls just feet away. one slip can result in total disaster. more to come

I usually hate any music soundtrack when played over motor sport, but Within Temptation - Faster is just so perfect. For those in the UK, just like The Chain at the start of the BBC F1 coverage from years ago - sets the mood perfectly (appreciate that it is still used on BBC radio coverage, but sadly not the same as the visuals) 🙂

I'm 78 now and raced Harley's on dirt tracks in the early 60's. I rode them and sometimes they rode me. I didn't make any money but I sure had a lot of fun.

The fastest lap (37miles) of an AVERAGE of 135.4 mph by Peter Hickman. EACH RACE HAS 6 LAPS thats over 222miles a race! Brick or Flint walls or trees and houses, kerbstones or manhole covers, all part of it. If you look at the last part, the bike is actually catching the helicopter! Not only do Riders die but sometimes the public too, sitting right on the edge of the road.
But not the ones that have 4 laps or even one ....and just how many sitting on/at/in "edge" of road is it ..not counting the ones that "die" in/off RCA ...As john small j done a dive on Google for the "Facts" ?
Most of the members of the public who are killed or injured are not spectators. Most casualties occur when inexperienced riders decide to push themselves beyond their limits on their own bikes.
One of these bikes cornered doing a wheelie at 150mph, there is also a slow motion shot of peter hickman sliding his bike into a corner at 130mph + he said its the best way to take a corne.r

If I'm not mistaken, that "cliff" at 14:20 is where Connor Cummins lost his front end at over 150 and broke his back tumbling head over heals down that cliff

I don't remember who it was but I read an interview with a racer after he retired from racing and he was walking the course remembering different parts of it from his races. There was one particular spot where he remembered he would always feel his helmet brush the leaves from the bushes on the inside of the turn, turns out it wasn't bushes but ivy covering a stone wall.
Really the only way to do this race is practice enough so you memorize the track, at those speeds you have to be setting up for the next several miles in advance.
I’ve been to the TT and nothing prepares you for the experience, not only the speed as they go by but the bikers who attend the main town Douglas is taken over and bikes are lined up side by side for miles three and for rows deep.
The isle of man TT is the most inclusive sport ever the men and women race against each other I'd say they'd even let TRANS riders compete I don't think any have applied maybe they don't have the balls 😂👍

You guys should react to Peter hickmans lap of isle of man (chin cam) go pro video for a VR feeling. He holds the lap record for isle of man and it will give u perspective of what its really like.

6:41 Not a death wobble. He was coming off a jump. Death wobbles usually happen whilst riding arrow straight and are rare if you have good front suspension dampers. Think of it as a sound frequency relating to vibration etc. If it hits the sweet spot, or sour in these cases it's akin to an opera singer hitting a perfect resonance and breaking a glass. Scary AF the first time you experience it but similar to aquaplaning in a car, dont panic. Ride it out.

37 miles is just one lap! They do 4 to 6 laps per race depending on the class.

Speed wobble for a light one, tank slapper for a bad one because the clip ons can literally slap your gas tank, I once had one so hard on my 1994 YZF750 the fork lifted up a few mm to where it sat in the front wheel.

When you see the bikes out on that wild country road, that section is called "The Mountain." At that point the bikes actually OUTRUN the helicopter taking the aerial shots. The chopper has a max speed of 180mph and the suoerbikes now top out st OVER 200mph!!! I believe the correct way to describe this event is MAD BONKERS MENTAL!
I haven't got VR so don't know, but can you watch youtube on a VR headset? If so, go look for "Fastest EVER Lap of the Isle of Man TT | Peter Hickman - 136.358mph". Most of it is an onboard camera facing forward. PS, the 136mph is average speed. These guys are hitting over 200mph in places.
This race is not sanctioned by the AMA, or any major motorcycle racing sanctions. They fought for years to keep racing safe. With safety barriers and other safety issues. This race is just for bragging rights/prestige. Insane, and awesome! One mistake going by those rock walls/houses, and it's over. There are several "Dark" videos, of lives being ended abruptly in this race.

This video is about 10 years old. Traffic manages to move around the island during the races. The races have been going over a 100 years. The current lap record is held by Peter Hickman at 136+ mph.
The public is allowed to take to the track between races, no speed limits. Or at least it used to be that way.

Watching these guys race side to side at +150 mph through the TT makes me imagine what would've felt like in the "chicaneless" LeMans seeing the Group C monsters chase themselves at +230 mph through the Mulsanne kick, just imagine
As of 2023, 261 riders died in this race. Which is a small figure -considering that it is annual event that started in 1907.
By the way at 17:09 in the video , you are watching him at over 150mph pulling into the corner on one wheel ... The high speed speed wobble was with Guy Martin . near the middle of the video you will see Joey Dunlop who has won the TT 26 times , Michael Dunlop who has won 25 times actually lives on the Island , he's the rider you see with a flag in his hand coming in on his bike . Oh in answer to your question about women in the race, In 1962, Beryl Swain raced as the first woman and yes woman can enter .... Oh and at 136.58mph average speed Peter Hickman holds the record .. I've had two friends go to the TT and I can assure you of this ( Virtual Reality does nothing compared to this , the speed of these guy's going by you will pull you forward and you can actually feel the after heat of them leaving you ) ... These are 1 liter bikes turned up to 12 . Yes they have smaller displacement categories, but your watching full on 1 liter power in this video ...

The reason of the the tankslap, or the wobble, is that the front wheel is going slower than the rear wheel when it's on the air.
Jenny Tinmouth who became the fastest female rider in TT history in 2010 setting a lap speed of 119.945mph.7 Jun 2023 there are NO rules to stop women racing . If you can get a bike there you can ride the course .
So, it has already been mentioned . Do the Peter Hickman full lap chin cam pov if you want a rider's eye perspective.!!
Also, not many people offer this next one up. Check out Mark Higgins' full lap pov in car lap record in the Subaru Prodrive STI race spec rally car. 2016. Absolutely awesome stuff, and very, very fast corners,faster than the bikes !!! Hence the lap record.!

There are female racers in pro motorcycle racing, but they are a relative rarity. Full speed race bikes put a lot of g forces thru the body, so the level of athleticism is higher than you'd expect. There is now a female only motorcycle race series in the US utilising Royal Enfield motorcycles to boost representation and provide a pathway to professional careers
I've always wondered about the weight difference, being generally lighter you'd think they'd have an advantage and there'd be more of them.
@@jefforymitchell5697 I think that was more true back in the 2 stroke era of GP racing, where in the 125 & 250cc support classes the technique was about super high corner speed. German Katja Poesngen did well in 250s.
The 4 stroke era is characterised by point & squirt - super hard braking deep into corners, turn hard, get bike upright and fire it out. It is the braking that is the physical thing. Someone described stopping at the end of the 180mph+ Jerez straight in Spain for the 40mph right handed as doing a push up with a 50kg/120lb person sitting on your shoulders.
In a race weekend you do that turn 100 times or more at full effort

BUT . . . . .THERE IS AN EVEN WILDER ONE AT THE SAME COURSE . . . look up Isle of Man TT Sidecars Racing . . i won`t say more . . you will love it . . . . . .also Fun fact . . . .The bikes you just showed, flat out, can do up and around 200 mph on good open parts of the course . . .also, it says it all when the fastest helicopters filming from above cannot keep up with them.
