It's not only the lame inferior weeb art style (Portrait has it as well but it's still enjoyable, and dont get me started on Rondo), it's everything that's subpar, anime trope, the antagonists, the meh plot, power of friendship nonsense, Mina being nothing but a damsel in distress, the dull colors and meh design for most new enemies, also, the game is a complete cakewalk and Dark Soma is such a lazy boss fight..
***** You could incorporate all of Simons whip moves, and the sub-weapons as well, so I think that Simon still has a decent set of moves. Plus, the item crashes work too.
Dude this intro still blows me away. I'm 32, but I was 14 when I played this and it was the first Castlevania game I ever owned and beat by myself. Permanent good memories of sitting with my best friend in highschool comparing maps and dropping everything to watch when one of us found a new area or secret
CalianSonadora Haha, yeah. It's a cool intro. I got this game along with my DS when I was about 9 years old. I didn't know how to beat Dmitrii, so I got stuck xD Then I *somehow* managed to survive him (and he was using the malachi attacks throughout the whole fight), gergoth got shrekt, and I beat the heck outta Zephyr. Then I couldn't progress because yellow meduse heads... But now I kick ass at what I do within the game, and all of my souls are on the highest level, lvl 100 and all weapons you can get through the use of boss souls. I've come a long way since back then.
+HetaliaCalifornia Dark Chapel wasn´t hard, when I was a kid, I got stuck with the ****** imp, I thought that Soma repeating his attacks was a bug, but no, Sadly, Imp is in Castlevania : OOE too.

Good thing there is that suspend feature! I literally abuse it whenever I go through that room with the pendulums and imps in the Cursed Clock Tower xD
So cool. I don't mind the anime style at all, just have Soma appear in all games from now on. Hell, give Soma a sitcom and I'll watch the hell out of it.
it allows for the developers to let the characters exibit more emotion without having to hire an artist to make portrait paintings, most characters now exibit a wider range of emotions, excluding arikado because, I have not seen one time alucard has exhibited any emotion, and soma for the sake of I have no fucking clue
It was actually to appear to a wider audience. With that said, the biggest issue is the portraits aren't even especially good for what they're supposed to be. Shading is abysmal, the colors contrast the game, and honestly drastic changes in a direct sequel is never a good idea. I don't even hate the portraits, but anybody that complains has a valid reason to do so. It's less jarring in Portrait of Ruin because a game isn't trying to sell you as more of the same while also ripping the carpet out from under feet.
@@whoopingmuffin9700 Finally, FINALLY someone who gets the artstyle change. And also the artstyle plays into the screen res of the system very well, it is much more readable and way less compressed looking than Ayami's stuff on the GBA, I do still like Ayami don't get me wrong, but her style barely works for GBA and DS and plus you need to have some variety, you can't just have Ayami doing artwork for all games since SoTN, back in the Classicvania days there were multiple artists working on the series.
