  • One of the first lessons you will learn in boxing is "keep your hands up!" But there are different styles of guards, which are dependent upon your body type and strategy for the fight. That being said, don't limit yourself to just these 4 -- instead, use this video as a way to get creative and find your OWN style. In today's video, we will cover:
    1. The Philly Shell Guard
    2. The Peek-a-Boo Guard
    3. "Mexican Style"
    4. The "Drunken Boxer"

It's all about the set up. You've gotta make sure before the first punch is thrown, everyone involved knows it's 'light sparring' then just fucking unload on the guy.

I forget the name of the boxer, but he had a weird stance. He had a decent career and he laid right fore arm on his left forearm and pointed his left elbow out.
Almost like he was going to plow through your guard/offense with his elbow.
He had success because it was such a rare stance but it made his jab awkward and his right hand less powerful.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Thanks guys so much for completing the moves during explanation! Coach PJs head for example goes back after the punch for Coach Shane even though the blow is not in real time speed. It demonstrates the effectiveness of a punch thrown and also what happens on the defensive end should an opponent drop his/her guard and leaves him/herself open. My preferred guard style: Modified Philly with low/extended lead hand. I use it to to keep something in someone's face at all times, easy guard testing, fast up jabs, and good energy conservation. Only down side is the lack of defense, but if you've got good head movement, it works. At least for me that is :P

Number 3 is just having an active guard (control you opponent with feints and lead hand control). You should have an active in stance number 1 and 4

I like to keep my right elbow up guarding the face. One dude rocked himself swinging wild on me like that.

2:35 Usyk also uses this, good for holding the opponent at the distance
    3:50 Tyson Fury best example

Hey Shane! been following your videos for a long time. Have you thought about tackling Muay Thai styles and muay femur? I feel like people have a wrong idea that muay thai is all about marching forward and plodding on a light lead leg and exchanging blows till they fall. Would bbe esp. relevant with mma guys like Adesanya and Darren till showing that more varied style and blend of MT (even Masvidal blending the boxing and Muay thai)
Would love a video too about blending Muay Thai with some Boxing and more complex footwork and some of the kicks from full contact kickboxing/Karate/TKD.
    Cheers from portugal!

The only thing u guys left off about the philly shell or grand rapids roll is.... Your right hand has to cover two spots (orthodox). The right side of the face but it also has to go to the front of the face/chin to party and block jabs and potentially other shots (With an open palm facing the opponant). If u leave your right hand on the right side of the face u will eventually get caught by easily blocked punches. That's all great video 🔥🔥🔥

I am very interested in the Mexican style. Who would you recommend I should study? Is their any instructional clips out there you would recommend? Thank you for your help.
