One of the best Nirvana songs and for sure underrated as hell
I still love this song as I did 30 years ago
From my first listening to Nevermind 30 years ago I always thought this song was way better than SLTS!
@@Ncebulsky Of course agreed! :)
YES
underrated?
“I don’t care what you think unless it is about me”
every time I hear that line it feels so real people are naturally made that way Kurt’s writing here is just at one of its best
What did you think when you heard the Fall Out Boy song that copied that line (I Don’t Care)?
Unlike yours.
@Chicken Parma Love both, but Kurt said it first!!
@Chicken Parma homage, think a bunch of bands have given Nirvana shout outs like that (eg. Blink 182 etc)
Check out our cover
You can't be misanthropic when you write a relationship song like that. Kurt had emotional deficiencies, but he wrote this song when he was happy to discover love. A great song. And what great inspiration! Great riff!
ua-cam.com/video/l9agX9mRCW0/v-deo.html
he got drain you from a gf he was dating when they broke up she told him it was a job to drian you
to me kurt was the complete opposite of misanthropic. he cared too much.
He definitely drained his brain a few years later...
it's not a love song lol
Nirvana will never be forgotten. The simple riffs Kurt made proved that riffs don’t have to be technical to make it a good song. I’m currently starting a band rn, and I’ll always give credit to Nirvana for inspiring our riffs.

This song is such a blast to play. I got a concert coming up in six days of me writing this where I'll play bass and sing this song. One of the best Nirvana songs ever.
how did the concert go??
@starrybear-0 was good.
this is literally my favorite nirvana song ever. kurt’s voice is so beautiful and dave’s harmonies😤😭❤️
is not Dave .. is kurt overdub
Kurt had such a unique voice. There are harmonic overtones, the timbre, the pronunciation. It's just so unique. Often imitated, but never duplicated.
@@paranoizehfx Not bad dude.
@@paranoizehfx Pretty good.
He had a terrible voice
Well the harmonics are Dave
@@caseydopp318 those would be harmonies, harmonics are naturally occurring overtones that happen with every sound
Can we all agree to play this song every April the 5th in memory and honour of one of the greatest rockstars that lived ?
That's pretty sick, man.
But, yeah, I do it.
Sad day, April 5th, 1994
Usually I'll make it a point to listen to Nirvana a lot in April anyway,
Fun Fact: This was actually Kurt's favourite song he made.
Mine too
About his ex no doubt 😉
This was probably tie with SLTS for my favorite song on the album, back when I first got it in the 90s.
mine too
Never heard that before. Site your source limey.
Fun fact: This was the song, Kurt actually thought would be the main hit of the album, not "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
And for a good reason. I always considered Drain You to basically be a perfect pop song. Now, after all these years I find out (thanks to this comment section) that Kurt himself considered it to be THE hit for Nevermind. Wow. I just have to say I agree with the person who created it lol
I thought it was come as you are
@amandabrewster5327 I think it's the second biggest song on the album?
@@Edd1sl0st 2nd biggest song on nevermind is in bloom
fun fact: he was probably bullshitting a little bit.
i dont know what it is about nirvana it just gives me this nostalgic sweet feeling, and a slight feeling of sadness,i cant describe it,it makes the air diffrent and i have no other way of describing it.
Yes. Yes. AND YES!!!!!!! I can't put it in words either, but this is the closest😢😊

Nope, I mean they're good but still not Alice in chains
I am 43....grew up with Kurt and this music.... And nowadays.... It's still amazing.... I fcking love Nirvana....
So you mean you were about 10 or 11 when this came out and you 'grew up with it' oh ok. I thought being in my 50s and late teens at the time meant I grew up with it. Who knew? Well, a lot of ppl after the fact it seems. Just like all the Americans who only knew they even existed a long time after they were already big in England, about the time when they saw their worst ever song on mtv.
Listening to "Drain You" invites not just an emotional but also an interpretive engagement. The listener, harboring a dream of living a great love story, may find themselves reflecting on the lyrics and music in relation to their own life experiences and desires. The song becomes a canvas onto which they project their longing, fears, and hopes about love. The act of listening thus transforms into a deeply personal experience, where the song's narrative intertwines with the listener's internal narrative, creating a unique and subjective interpretation.

Lyrics:
One baby to another says, "I'm lucky to have met you"
I don't care what you think unless it is about me
It is now my duty to completely drain you
I travel through a tube and end up in your infection
Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth
In a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you
With eyes so dilated, I've become your pupil
You taught me everything without a poison apple
The water is so yellow, I'm a healthy student
Indebted and so grateful, vacuum out the fluids
Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth
In a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you
You, you, you
You, you, you
One baby to another says, "I'm lucky to have met you"
I don't care what you think unless it is about me

The whole Nevermind album is full of Beatle inspired pop hooks. 'Drain You' is the perfect example of combining a beautiful melody with a cutting edge.

@@billy1126 nope, the one, that's the point of my post
This song means so fucking much to me. It’s one of those that I can never get tired of hearing, an immortal theme. Sure, it’s not the most complex piece of music ever, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s just damn good, and that’s more than enough. Brings me back lots of memories too, makes the song better for me.
cool story bro
so many Nirvana song i just can't get sick of
I swear to god I feel the same way every time I listen to Drain You it’s like the first time, lots of memories in the early 90’s with my brothers and this album too.
I feel the same way about New Way Home by the Foo Fighters. Some songs just hit different.

Long live Nirvana
Smells like teen spirit hit hard when i was just starting high school. I bought Nevermind, and then accidentally found out about Bleach (there was no internet for the masses to speak of in 1992), and became addicted to Nirvana. This is, by far, my second favorite Nirvana song.

How deep down the rabbit hole you go is on you.
December 1993 in Los Angeles live at the great western forum i was truly fortunate to see my number 1 band of all time NIRVANA! watching Nirvana and listening to Kurt singing drain you was unforgettable moment. it’s a time I wish and wish I can go back to my 90s teen life !!
the song has weird lyrics but it goes so well . its so powerful when they get to the part where David Grohl sang with him adding another voice track. i love the commitment
fun fact kurt thought that this will be hit of the album, and he thought smells like teen spirit will be least
wasn’t drain you one of his favourites (if not his favourite)

This gives off one of those Love/ Romantic Movies if you know what I mean 😩 0:07
Yes! Like one of those high school love movies!
Nirvana is a Generation in it self ....and i am glad to be part of
This is one of the rare songs that at least for me seem to perfectly describe selfish, narsisitic people that you’ll meet in life. People who really think ”don’t care what you’re thinking unless it’s about me” and how they’ll completely drain you. But I love how unique and artistic the lyrics are. Probably my favorite nirvana song. It’s perfect.
pretty sure its that + heroin
@@ShleemenLive another good perspective of the song is the pov of a baby talking about its mother, lines such as "it is now my duty to completely drain you", "I travel through a tube and end up in your infection" and "one baby to another says I'm lucky to have met you" prove this point
Maybe you are a hypocrite
The meaning of the song has nothing to do with it. This is a love song, about passion
