When he refers to music'd pioneers Basie , Miller, Sachmo and Sir Duke, he is referencing I believe his influences Count Basie, Glen Miller, louie Armstrong ( Sachmo) and Duke Ellington. The voice he was talking about was Ella Fitzgerald. Such amazing influences❤️

He's shouting out some of the greats that inspired him. Sir Duke Ellington, Ella's Fitzgerald, etc. Stevie is absolutely amazing and humble ❤

This song was the most fun I ever had playing in the high school jazz band. Everyone liked it so much we usually got to play it twice!

I can't dance for shizzle, but even I danced to this one!
When he started out, he was a child prodigy called "Little Stevie Wonder" and was about 16 years old.

Went to see Stevie in 1971, great concert. Edwin Starr opened for Stevie with his song "War".

What an amazing video. It sounded like the audio but it sure looked like they were playing live there. Incredible. Great song!! One of my favs by him is I Wish. you may have heard it before bc it's extremely popular.
I know Christmas is a ways away, Greg, but his version of Ave Maria is absolutely mind blowing. IDK if he's singing in Italian or Latin or maybe something else but his voice pierces right through to your soul. ❤❤ If you're starting a holiday list, please consider that one. It's perfection!! Thank you and have a blessed day.

JIC, he's specifically talking about the physical groove that's cut into the vinyl vs. this funky rhythm and melody that makes a song groovy.

Braids were not a thing in 1976. Afros were. This album, "Songs in the Key of Life," was the big one my senior year. "I Wish," from this album was the class song. You should listen to the one, too.
"With a voice like Ella's ringing out there's no way the band could lose." That's Ella Fitzgerald. If you feel like going back a few decades further, you could listen to Ella. Try "Cry Me a River," "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," "Miss Otis Regrets," or "It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing."

In high school, our concert band attempted to play this. It was a disaster, to put it mildly.

This isn't his best record. However, it is my favorite. The groove goes on for days!!

Just so you know, this isn’t the real Stevie. The guy is impersonating a young Stevie and he’s not even pressing on any keys on that keyboard. I can recognize Stevie’s smile from a mile away and this is not it.

Sorry. It is Stevie at 26 years young.

@@sandj8378 This is definitely not Stevie. It is an imitation with the reconstruction of the time. There is no official video of "Sir Duke" from the time, just a studio version made 20 years later^^

Thank you! I totally agree. About 30 seconds in I started noticing it, while thinking about how I never knew there was a video for this song.

At that time the short fro and pork chop sideburns was the look.Stevie was with the times.
As far as his writing Genius.
I don't think there is an instrument he cannot play, except nsybe Bag pipes,Accordian,or the Didgeridoo.
