Steve, a few hours after you posted this I was watching several of the early episodes of your aberration let's plays. The episode where a raptor gets into your starting base via the front door... and that got me thinking... The raptor is able to enter because you are just close enough for its pounce to connect, which forced you to lie prone and placed the raptor over you and past the door which it normally can not pass through but can attack through. The idea that came to me was even though the velonasaur can not pass through the solid wall, it might be able to 'tele-punch' through an obstacle that could be attacked through, like when a rex can bite through a window even though there is no physical way for its head to fit. I attempted to recreate your tests by using all tek, random spawned velonasaur, etc. But the effects were not what I had hoped. It appears that it is not actually teleporting, but rather being yanked, as if by say a rope, towards the location. Upon the punch, the velonasaur was pulled tail first through the door but gets stuck as it's hips are too wide. It then floats there as if swimming. My next thought was to see if I could get it to port through a dino gate, which it can normally pass through, but had a door in the frame. I wanted to see if the movability of the gate would cause it to be, for lack of a better term, 'less solid' then a non-moving object like a wall. If it worked it would allow players to port their dinos through closed gates. This would be useful in events such as being swarmed by hostiles. The player would want to get their dino to safety behind a wall but be unable to do so because opening a gate would allow the hostiles access to the inner area through the breach. Testing again proved unfavorable. The velonasaur was yanked towards the smaller ring, but stopped and made to swim in the air in front of the gate as if yanked by the tail. I did note that as I was using a tek gate, as I neared it the field melted and the velonasaur blinked over the the ring. Apparently the leash continued to yank on the velonasaur even after it impacted with a solid object. The third test centered around weight. This test was promising. Weighing the velonasaur to its maximum capacity seemed to have zero effect on the tele-punch, meaning a player could weigh a dino with more then it could carry and then move it via leashes over large spans of distance, however I noted that if there is even a tiny bump on the ground, such as tree roots crossing the bridges found in sanctuary, it will get stuck on them and be unable to be pulled any farther to the ring. Elevating the velonasaur so its starting point is higher on the X axis then the obstruction (in this case roots) does alleviate the issue. This shows that the yanked dino follows a straight line from the x/y/z starting point to the ring rather then following the floor as if it were walking at a very high speed since previous testing shows that it must act as if it were physically walking the distance. The next test is with something far too large to be punched. In this case I tested a rex, as they are found in most players collections at some point. As expected, a whip works beautifully, though after several tests, simply whistling follow will have the same effect as a tele-punch, though it may pivot and watch the player for a moment before blinking over to the ring. For the final test, I tested height. I placed a leash at the very edge of a bridge with a rex far down below. Upon several attempts, I was able to reliably teleport the rex up several stories with little issue, though having a place for the rex to 'land' is advisable. Bridge used for testing was at 45.0/46.5, with the rex at the bush by the lone tree with 4 blue crystals. This would allow me to move dinos of any size to locations that were either far out of the way, or not reachable at all, such as yanking siege golems up to pound on the walls of a sky base (rather then building a corkscrew stairway to heaven's cannon, lol ^_^). After these tests I believe the mechanic it's using is as if the dino is shooting the leash point with a grappling hook and then reeling itself in at extreme speed... which has now given me the thought of golems climbing shear walls with grappling hooks, lol. This all took about 2 hours for all tests to be completed.
You know you can now pickup recently placed structures for a 30 second period. For the teleporting glitch the devs are probably going to make the Dino walk into the smaller circle. Thanks for the video keep up the good work nooblets.
The Dino Leach can also be powered by outlets if you choose to place indoors. I use one on Ragnarok for my water pen, and due to my location, I use a Wind Turbine in a 100% zone.
I know I'm late but this is why I absolutely love your videos. There are things I wonder- "is this possible?" .. and I cannot form them into questions for Google, but nooblets has definitely tried it or done something I cannot even imagine. Punching to teleport made me lose my MIND.
Thanks for the video! I just got Extinction and now have the dino leash. Very useful information. I was curious about the life of the device as the Wiki says it needs batteries, but you mentioned the solar power, which is great! one less worry for me!
One thing to note on leash breeding is that smaller creatures such as wolf's or ovis etc. Have a smaller mating radius than the minimum leash radius so you're better off just building a small bedding pen for those tames.
When i let them walk around in the red ring they always stop in a few minutes and stand next to the red ring. They don't move after that. Why aren't they walking around?
I looked up this topic because my quetz keeps teleporting across the map. I take it out for metal runs across map, then randomly when i've jumped off of it for the 1-10th time it just disappears. I find it back at base... So, I suppose rather than just flying it out of the leash radius, i'll fly it out, land it, make sure there isn't a red lock icon, then proceed from there. Thanks for the tips.
As cool as the new leashes are, they have a on of bugs and other issues. The worst is that despite what people say your dinos CAN just randomly come unlocked from a leash. I've watched it happen and there was no reason for it. Sometimes mounting a dismounting a dino will lock it, sometimes it won't. So you often have to turn off the entire leash then back on to relock everything, which can be a problem if you have a lot of dinos on wander inside. Further more, the AI doesn't handle movement inside the ring very well. It looks like they just took the easy way of implementing the leashes, which is the dino still picks a random wander to destination as before, but is blocked by the leash. What they SHOULD have done is have the dino pick a random wander to location that is inside the leash, but it can pick locations outside the leash. In other words it can pick locations it can't get to. This often causes dinos to clump up along the perimeter of the leashes. So you can't use them to have dinos just wandering about for coolness. If you are using leashes for mating, the babies are not locked. So you again have to disable and reenable the leash. The "solar powered" is pretty inconsistent. Won't work through greenhouse/glass but does work in the middle of the night in the domes. And can we please have an option to turn off the ugly rings? This is the #1 reason why I don't use them.
Does a dino on leach keep the agro of other dinos attacking it after being teleported by such an attack? If so, you could drag those attackers back into turret range with the teleported dino. Would only work with unmounted dinos i guess, but seems like a way to use that mechanic.
I think is going to be great for taming, put leash down next to my tame, set it on aggressive, and I can leave the area, maybe dont have to put down spikes?
I'm about the height of the dino leash and the way the dino can fly I don't think there is actually a limit I chained like 16 wyverns off of somebody's base with a dino leash and I just flew up to the skybox and they followed me
Dear nooblet I don’t know why but I’ve been trying to get a bee hive on extinction I’ve only ever seen one queen bee and it died from me destroying the hive but I’ve done about 30 hives and only found one queen can you make a video about this but I’m not sure if my servers just glitched

I usually prefer to find printed info because of time/info ratio, which most videos fall very short compared to what I can get from reading. When the tapejara went down during the fight I think it's a newer AI update to keep your birds from getting in fights and flying to max world height

Man leash sounds really good to park ankylo on metal and just occasionally come back to pick up the motherlode.
to bad they dont have auto harvest, so they wont gather metal for you if u not siting on them.

I think there is a glitch on console. My dinos just stay at the border of the leash and just stop moving.

Could work. But I wouldn't risk it - too much chance your tame would accidentally hit the unconscious creature in a fight.

The changes to the Dino's are major haven't seen any videos on it yet.
You should have mentioned the dino leash bug that if u go too far from a breeding pair of dinos in the leash it stops working on them.

Does anyone know if you transfer your character to another map with gets dark if the leashes will turn off when it's dark
They do turn off because they are solar powered, you can use batteries or a generator to keep them on tho

Anybody been having an issue with there dinos hanging themselves on the leash? Had 3 now that have killed themselves.

You forgot the enforcer. It does not work on them. How did you get tek building on extinction? I killed 3 titons but only got armer
