- From our base camp in the Alagna Valsesia we took a series of cable cars up to Punta Indren at 3,200 metres. From here we climbed up to the Refugio Gniffetti sited at 3,647 metres. After a day acclimatising to the altitude by climbing Piramide Vincent (not featured in the video), we proceeded up to Europe's highest hut, the Margherita, at the summit of Signalkuppe (4,554 m) on the border of Italy and Switzerland. We bagged a couple more peaks on the 1,500m descent back to the cable car. We couldn't tackle Mont Blanc - the weather forecast for was high winds so we aborted our mission - gutted after such perfect preparation!!!

Amazing up there. I thought I'd take a look at an old video Martin. Glad i did. Slow going it looked but the rewards in terms of the views and the purity of the air well worth it. Wow the highest hut or building in Europe. Good going. Monte Rosa...spectacular-really spectacular. All the best. Mark.

Watched your kangchenjunga vid. Your vids are great. If you ever come to the states go to north cascades national park you wont believe it . A hdden gem. You will think youre in the alps. Hidden lake lookout if you go.
Hi Earl, thanks for the thumbs up! The US has some of the finest national parks in the world and the landscapes in the west are truly amazing. Utah is up there in the top places one of us has ever visited, and we'd really like to do a mega road trip round the western states sometime in the future. Always good to have local knowledge, and we'll put North Cascades NP on our itinerary.
