Guess who just run outside and popped a couple pansy seeds in my tulip pot before sunset. Thanks Laura!
Is there an update to this video/these planters?? I can’t wait to see what happens!
I have such a small garden so I live through you and your adventures!!! Thank you!
It's nice to see your enthusiasm I get the same way and people think it's a little weird sometimes when I get too excited about my garden
Your kitty jumping outta the tree was adorable :)
Thank you for showing affordable projects! With a $500 annual garden budget, I love projects I can do also!
Love the “grown up gardener” comment! I feel that way when I get a new tool that is priced that took me a long time to purchase! Lol! Glad I’m not the only one! You are awesome.
I saw seeds at the garden shop the other day and now you explained why I need them. I planted tulip bulbs in a planter and now I need a fill in!! Thanks again😀
I’ll say it again, you have the patience of a saint my friend 💚🙃
Oh Laura, if this works, these pots are going to be gloriously gorgeous! Thanks for bringing all of us along for the ride❣️
You are definitely a grown up gardener ♥
Oh yes...I had seen huge potted flowers with tulips and pansies...Springs just round the corner...
Looking forward to your huge flower pots in full bloom...
Thanks for sharing...💖💝
Oh how fun, coffee with Laura and one of my favorite flowers getting planted! I actually still have pansy's growing in one of our pots on the playground so this is making me want to grab some seeds and a couple of pots and start some more!!!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the progress of these. They are going to be so so pretty!!!
I can’t find a video to see the progress
Those pansies look glorious! They should grow, if they grow in the garden from seeds than they don't need seeds starter soil.
Laura enjoy the winter and the down time, you will be plenty busy starting spring! 🤗🤗💜
I love your trial-and-error method, so like all of us novice gardeners. You seem to have mostly success as you try various things.
Can wait to see how they growing and look gorgeous 🌷👍
Brilliant idea for sure~ Those pots will be an absolutely gorgeous show with pansies and the bulbs! I can hardly wait to see!
I am so nervous and excited for this. The suspense!!!
That will be so pretty. You're not the only anxious for spring, I live in minnesota. Don't think I need to explain current weather to anyone. BRR.
I can't wait for the update! 😍
If no one ever experimented, great things would never happen. Love your spunk!
A short video is better than no video and I certainly enjoyed this one knowing that by this time next year things will look more grown-up. Thank you for all the hard work you do and letting us be there with you.
Oh fun! I did a few more planters with bulbs recently (as we've had such a mild Winter here on the Coast in Cape Cod) so you've inspired me yet again. I'm getting some pansy seeds tomorrow and sprinkling them on my bulb planters!
Me too getting some Pansy seeds to put in my bulb planter.
It took me two months to watch all your videos :) Thank you for all the wonderful tips and ideas. I'm glad I found your channel, you're great! Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
I LOVE pansies. You made my day, thank you!
Gardening is trial and error. Every year!
I love these and pansies are so much easier to dry. Can't wait to watch them mature.
My grandmother told me, when i was very young, "Pansy's are a happy flower!!" Excited to see these planters bloom!! 🍀
Now you made my eyes water up. My grandma used to say "I just love pansies, they have the sweetest little faces."
@@trace9657 Love our grandmother's described this sweet pansy the same!! I take a handful twist tied and use her coffee cup as a vase. Memories...
They do have such happy faces!
Love this How did they turn out ? where is the flow up video ? ❣️
Living vicariously through you right now, no where near ready to plant here yet. It's -40 right now, close to -50C with the windchill. Planting is so far away...
Where are you, the North Pole???🤣
I put pine cones in my pot and my asparagus bed to keep my cats out
Karen Gilchrist Very smart, Karen!
I do that, too!
I cant bring myself to pull the 🌱 out to thin...cant do it!! Laura, i love hearing you crunch across the gravel when you walk, little feet walking fast lol!
I can't wait for them to start blooming. It's the waiting that drives me nuts. Then they do & it's so beautiful.
Great idea. Spring is coming!😀😀🦋🐞🐝🌷🌸💐
Can't wait to see how these turn out!
I’m waiting for my lavender seeds to arrive then the seed starting begins! Thanks for the constant inspiration!
Right now Laura as I watch this video it is -42 below in Regina sk and how i wish i could be seeding seeds,I love pansy all colors
What a great idea. Should be Gorgeous. 👍Love the sprayer. Need to look into getting one. Those seeds are so tiny. Oh my gosh. Your amazing.😳💙
If your planting all works, it will be beautiful! Thank you for bringing us in on this potential loveliness!
To keep cats out, I use chicken wire. I cut it to the shape of the pot. Place it on top and then cover it with about an inch of the soil. Cats can't dig thru so they leave it alone. The plant has no problem growing through/around the wire.
Hi, Laura!! Great episode, thank you. Do you start seeds in-doors under grow lights? If you do, can you show us your process. Also, about how many flowers and veggies do you start from seeds and do you have any favorites? Thanks again!!
She has a video where she shows starting snapdragons from seed, using a grow light system from Gardner's Supply.
Hi Jody, there is a nice guy from MIgardner on utube who did some seed basics. This guy is very smart and he remembers when he started out. He also explains growing lights to start seeds. Plus sells seeds and sells 99 cent. Check him out, I have found it nice he tries to be mindful about money. Hope that is helpful.
@@sallieluna Thank you!!
@@TheJennBrown Thank you!!
i love your channel hello from perth australia xx brillant ideas
"I'm a grown up gardener" I feel like when I buy stuff like that too! Lol
Hmmm gave me the itch to try seeds again.
I have never used seed starting mix; frankly I didn't even know it existed. But I have never had problems with seeds starting, and if I of all people had success, you of all people should have success...
You are, 'The University of the Garden.'
I wish I could use some of knowledge you share with everyone.
To much back pain here in NJ
Hi Laura! What a great idea! I have trouble growing pansies because my back yard gets so much sun, but I have Violas that self seed and come back all over the place the next year. I even have some that are still blooming! Thank you for sharing!
My pansies are still blooming from September - NW Florida. My oranges are getting ready to pick and I want to start seeds BUT heard a really cold front will come in at the end of this week and be here for about a month! These changes in temperature are so hard to follow! I can almost see those pots in all their glory - what a show!
LOVE PANSIES! fav of mine, and for YEARS i didn't bother with them as I thought they were spring flowers, and since we are military I don't do spring flowers but now, LOVE ME SOME PANSIES
Never thought about planting pansies
Hi Laura. I live in zone 9b and each Veteran’s Day I plant a whole lot of tulips and I over plant the area with pansies. This past summer I ordered my bulbs from Color Blends (thanks to your video I now have a new source for ordering my bulbs) and I planted 600 Gamay variety tulips (in our zone we have to chill them in a refrigerator for about 6 weeks before we plant them). I then over planted with 15 flats of (720 plugs) pansies in lavender shades. The pansies are stunning all by themselves, and now our daffodils are beginning to bloom (which is common for our zone). Our Gamay tulips have popped up and will probably bloom in the next 5 or 6 weeks (which again is common in our 9b zone). I can’t recommend enough of over planting tulips with pansies. Our home is on a corner and neighbors and strangers alike will stop and tell us how beautiful our garden is. The joy gardening brings to others is such a wonderful blessing to me and my husband. Blessings to you and your family, and to all your gardening fans ☺️
Where I live I plant bulbs in containers in layers then plant the pansies on top. So there is a succession of bulbs one after the other. Then when the pansies die out in summer, I plant summer annuals in their place.
Looking forward to the spring show of flowers!!! Tiny tiny seeds!!!😊💪🌱
At your inspiration, I finally planted lots of bulbs this year. Mostly in containers. All of them I topped off with pansies and violas! I’m in zone 7b, so they are beautiful all winter. I’ve been loving them...
When ever I plant pansies in pots the tulips and daffodils new growth pushes them and dislodge them. So I'm interested to see your experience.
Thanks!
I think this is brilliant!!!! Can’t wait to see the outcome!!!!
Hey Laura, thanks again for your video. I absolutelly love experimenting with you. Trying new things in the garden, is what makes gardening so enthralling. I can’t wait to see what happens with those pansies. By the way I’m so jealous of your green house!!!! Keep up the good work
I would love to start seeds this time of year but I do not have a proper place! And I love pansies! I am also ready for Spring, this weekend while I am watching the snow storm, I will be making my list & possibly preodering!!!! 😁🌱💚👍🌱🌷🌷
The pansies I started required they be in the dark until they sprouted. I just covered them with a black plastic. They came up in about 7 days and are doing well so far. They haven't gotten true leaves yet but when they do I will transplant from plugs to 4 inch pots and begin fertilizing 50% solution once a week.
Thanks for sharing:) it’s going to be fun watching all of the flowers bloom:)
Can’t wait to see what these look like in just a few months (woo-hoo!) I do wonder how people sow really tiny seeds. When I planted the winter sowing containers, I just did my best to sprinkle and spread the super tiny seeds in and then I wished them luck!
Here in South Carolina we plant pansies in the fall and they overwinter even if we get snow then in spring they get huge and out on a big display.
Do you water these containers sparingly also in order to avoid damaging the containers in winter as the water might freeze on really cold nights in the greenhouse? When these bulbs bloom in spring, you won't fill up the self-watering reservoirs with water, just water from the top, because the water could freeze in early spring when they are out at the fence and blooming, right?
Would you consider covering the pots with clear foil for the pansy seeds to germinate? In my area we would starts seeds in June for pansy flowers from early September (going until end of spring), or sowing end of July or early October at the latest (but these flower only in spring). I like both pansies and violas, but I like it when the blue-yellow ones or simply yellow ones self-seed themselves, they can be so fragrant.
Don’t you just love a mild winter? We are in Michigan and I’ve been able to do so much outside this season!😊
Can’t wAit to see them grow!!🌱🌷🌺💐
I bet the display of pansies will be beautiful! They’re such a hardy and cheery plant 🌱 definitely a favourite here in Manitoba. The green thumb itch is starting but we have to wait a bit to start seed sowing. Last year I started peppers indoors in March and they were blooming by the time my garden was ready for planting 🙃🌶🌱 hoping to try flowers from seed this year. Thanks for sharing 🙏😀
You are so cute and sweet! You are a very good teacher.
I'm excited for more seed starting!
Here where I am on Maryland's eastern shore the Pansies & Violas are still blooming beautifully right now, it's been crazy warmer here too. I just recently put up a sign for my AirBnB and planted Tulips and Daffodils around the base, guess now I need to get some Pansy seeds =^)
It will be interesting to see how this works! I always thought pansies need to be started on a heated seed mat for proper germination...you are my favorite UA-camr!!😆 keep up the good work!!
SO Sad! Woke up to 10 degrees in Tri-Cities WA. I'm ready for SPRING Thank Goodness for your videos!!!
Love pansies. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out. 😍
Wooohooo let’s hope this works for ya Laura ... I just sowed 180 desert roses seeds last Friday and Sunday, I’ve got 3 up so far so that’s a good sign .... Looking forward to a future video to see the progress of the tulips and pansies Laura. 💕🌺💕
Looking forward to see how it works out for you.
Hey Laura they make a metal nozzle for misting seeds. Gives off a super light stream waaaaay better then an a pump sprayer. A professional greenhouse supplier should stock them.
It going to look beautiful.
Thanks for teaching us so much and taking us along on the journey. Your enthusiasm and attitude are refreshing. I think we all feel like you're a family member! I'm curious, do those pots have Braille on them?
Pansies are sooo expensive here , I have to start from seeds too. Can’t wait 🌸
Love your channel love your energy, LOL just wanted to mention that water mister is also a great emergency shower if you ever need one, LOL
Yay! I’m so excited to start seeding. I have had Superbells from Proven Winners over winter, but the petunias I started from seed act like we have never had freezing temperatures. It can be a pain, but starting plants from seed seems to make them far hardier than store purchased plants. I understand why, but it is just so cool to see your little babies go to town!
🌸 This is going to be so pretty!! A few questions.
1. If I want to do this in a very cold zone 6 (no ideas why we aren’t zone 5) could I do this outdoor maybe later in February when temps are around 30-40 or is that too cold? Wondering how cold is too cold to start pansies this way!
2. Probably a stupid question. Since these are shade loving plants can you start them in outdoor shade..? Or do I need to move the containers to the sun until they get established, then put them back in the shade?
3. I really hope you d updates to show how they’re doing and how to pinch / thin / etc. I guess this ones not a question 🥰🤣
I could test those extra packets here in South Florida 😍😍😍
oh wow I have one of those sprayers, bought it to spray and scrape off old wallpaper and forgot it is actually meant for gardening. I totally recommend it for misting the walls if you have wallpaper to take off. It works wonderful.
I do have some wallpaper inside to remove! Thanks for the tip! 👍
Hi Laura thank you so much for the seed planting information I am just starting to plant from seeds, we have two plus acres to fill so there's no way I can get all my plants from the garden shop. I am also trying starting from cuttings, if you could give us some help with that I would really appreciate it. I have watched Mike Kincaid's channel he is very helpful, but would love to see your approach.
Thanks so much for all your help over the years love watching you every morning,!
Very nice
Awesome video as usual! Thank you!😊😊😊😊
I can't wait to see how these turn out! Can I do the same if my pot is not in a cold frame? I am in zone 5 as well and have bulb containers on my open balcony so it doesn't get any wind or snow, but it is just as cold.
Laura I just went to the cinema to watch the new Little Women movie and in the film the family were making orange pomanders, popcorn wreaths and sliced dried orange Christmas decorations and I thought of you.
Trial and Error my Darling that is how we all learn. x
A bit of lemon or even better, lime zest will keep cats far away. They detest citrus. Smear it around the top edges of the
pots.
I don't think the fact that this isn't seed starting mix will be a problem, since I have seen them germinate in compacted gravel!
I plant pansies in the fall in my yard. On an sunny warmer day in the winter they will bloom. And it gives them a huge head start on the spring. I am in Ohio.
If you have trouble with cats around plants, citrus should help. So peels, or spraying the pot/plant/soil with water/citrus mixture. Make sure to read up on this before trying, citric acid after all can damage plants.
I love that flowers in my garden too.. but i dont have much space.. container gardening only.. i need that to attract pollinators.
LAURA, YOU ARE DEFINITELY A GROWN UP GARDENER!!It's a great experience to watch your videos. I'm excited to see how those pots turn out. I'm in zone 9b (northern California) how do I know how long I have to plant bulbs? Thank you so much.
I am wanting to try seed this year! I have outside with unpredictable results in containers or it could be my inexperience with seed lol!!
I loved that area that you had all of your supplies!! I wish you could do a video on it!! I need all the inspiration I can get to get more organized!! I have stuff all over and can never find it when I need it!! I am a little upset because I can’t find my favorite # 6 telco pruners!! I have the # 2 as well but I love the 6 so much better!! Maybe they will show back up!!!
Btw Laura, you are the most grownup Gardner that I know!! I am many years older than you and have been around gardens and growing all my life but you have taught me so much!!!!
I would also love to hear some recommendations for landscape bushes for my zone 8 here in Alabama.
Hello Laura, I love watching your videos and imagine how it would like in my garden. I saw you started some before and after videos. However, if you can edit/update same video with pictures in the screen after the results like bulbs or seeds..... it will be amazing to see the results in same video as they come to life. You have amazing talent. OMG
This was 2 months ago!!! I need an update Laura! ;). I just planted my pansies seeds today, so re-watched this one. Can I put them outside once they sprout? Or wait till mid April?
Good
