Appreciate you sharing the ups and downs throughout the day. For those of us that ride; we identify. For those that are new it provides a great perspective on the sport and what to expect.
Listen. This channel is like crack for the subscribers. Those of us who cannot ride every day of the winter are living vicariously through this channel. This is part of my winter daily routine. Once you start the season you cannot go a day without a video without a damn good excuse. Christmas, you say? Uh uh. Save a little snippet and make a little short video and schedule to post round 6am on the days you don't make a full release. That is all. Thank you.
Double check your chain tension in the Chain case. Some of the g5s showing up the chain tension has been super loose causing a grinding noise on take off.
I know of 3 gen 5’s with a loose chain case. I have put 4 full turns on mine in the first 200 miles. Might change the oil as well. Mine was straight silver after 200 miles
Check your secondary if the rollers broke, if they did see if the fett brothers racing rollers are the same for the turbos, there a fiber material instead of a plastic. The stock one break when you hear the clunk when you go from reverse to forward hard
Having a coffee Christmas morning watching FreeRider videos, awesome. Funny how it happens bro, first ride, always a rusty buzz hahha . Have fun ripping, and yes the most snow i have seen around here for awhile, riding real rusty tooooo.....
I was there yesterday too and had the exact same day. The old tracks weren’t quite covered and mounds of super deep clouds of snow here and there. Impossible to predict what the sled was gunna do. Super hard to ride. I’ve never felt so useless and out of shape. Still good times tho. “Maybe I shouldn’t have dropped down here” hahaha. Classic. Saw a half dozen remotely triggered class 1 slides let go. Anything with a convex roll that was steep enough and near a creek. Heads up to everyone about that.
Most excellent Christmas present! Thank you so much. Seems combining a first of the season ride with a first impression of a new whip video sends kind of a convoluted message. I purchased an unclaimed g5 and have rode the flats of Mn. I love it so far. Watching you in the mountains has me apprehensive about a upcoming trip to Island Park and West Yellowstone. Stay safe enjoy and know your video efforts are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Just my opinion ( and in no way am I trying to rag on you), but seeing Matts first ride (and acclimation to new sled) thru some pretty snotty stuff (and he does have a talent for finding the snot), and how it handled it, I would think that it would have given some confidence to you seeing first hand what the sled is capable of. Wishing you a Merry Christmas from Colorado. Side note, greetings from a former Minnesotan, Brooklyn Park to be exact.
Seen that clutch side panel broken by a few different youtubers already. I'd be packing stuff to field repair that but I don't think we'll have a G5 in our immediate group.
New screen looks awesome, sled also seems more punchy… excited for the rest of the season and the daily vlogs… thanks Matt… curious about your first impressions of the gen5..
Merry Xmas to all Best Xmas gift today is already here...Muskoka freerider and my morning coffee....just getting ready to go ice fishing...and now I want to go sledding...lol... Glad to have you back on the snow Matt....can't wait to see where you go this year... From my very snowy windy igloo on the mountain in alberta Canada 🇨🇦 D.
The wierd clutch grinding sound could also just be your track tention.... Pretty quick and easy thing check while you're out there. Might keep happening for the first few rides, I would do that quick test before tearing apart the clutches! Same sound coming from my 2023 Polaris tightened the track and no more bad noises.
I like how there isn't a single bit of skepticism in regards to the clutch and panel breaking on the first ride. If this was a Polaris, the comments section would be a slaughterhouse. But since it's a Doo then it's acceptable/ignored. I'm seriously questioning Doo's claim to "185hp" too, cuz every video I've seen of them has the skis in the air. They look more like 190/195 to me - which is absolutely insane. New screen looks great, hopefully you don't lose cell service and are able to keep track of your buddies throughout the season. Still think the manufactures should set their egos aside and work on a compatible system between the 3. Merry Christmas Matt and Chloe!!
OK I'm not alone! First day we got 3 foot of baseless super fluff and I couldn't ride to save my life! Boy that thing stands right up in the deep stuff, keep up the great work bud.
central nebraska. a dusting that blew and made some drifts in ditches. thats it. but was able to ride for a bit yesterday on both sleds. thats whats nice about old sleds, dont need much snow to keep slides lubricated and cool. plays heck on carbides tho. lol luv your vids
haha so that’s what it looked like up top. seemed like it was nuking when i drove though town before the pass closed. excited for what the next week brings. the trip starts tomorrow!!!
Awesome first video. I did get out for a ride today but of a very different type. Buffalo NY here. We’ve experienced a disastrous storm for 3 days straight , 60-70mph winds, subzero temperatures with 0 visibility and blizzard snow fall. We’re buried. many without power and heat since Friday. The city and surrounding areas are like war zones abandoned cars everywhere..I spent today going through my entire neighborhood, stopping and asking everyone I saw outside or in their cars trying to get warm if they needed help, water/supplies.. or medical attention. Thank you for the video.. it helped me disassociate from this reality for a moment..
Welcome back Boss......Nice little present seeing this video. Even getting paid to watch it (double time and a half-holiday pay) because the other boss man has me for the day. Merry Christmas to you and yours.....
I had a noise similar to that on my Polaris. Ended up being water in the chain case that froze. Once it’s melted it was fine but over night it would freeze.
First mod I do to my skidoo is a MVM belt drive. I still cannot believe skidoo has not gone to a factory belt drive. Just blows me away! It’s gotta be coming soon in the next couple years🤞
Boy I was waiting for that one, watching your Instagram stories and wondering which morning I was gonna wake up to a video. What a nice Christmas gift!
So that snow you are in is from the same system that dumped 1/2" of freezing rain on my property bringing hundreds of branches down. Bu the storm we just had dumped 5 and 1/2" of rain in 36 hours. Given that it will be warm, and assuming 20-10% WBV (Water by Volume) snow that will be 27-55". I don't know how much will make it up there, but I would expect a solid whack from the incoming system.
Rust, in Alaska it was always the third day when I would come around, same day my thumb muscles got in shape and stopped hurting also. Wish we had finger throttles back then.
It looks like your sled is acting a little heavy on the skis and diving a bit. My first day out on my expert 165 it was handling the same, felt like I forgot how to ride all of a sudden. I stiffened the front track shock all the way and put the springs on 5, and it turned into a totally different machine. It’s a bit front end heavy, and you need that center shock stiff to weight transfer better. Ran into others that felt the same about it. Handles way better now.
Great Xmas present. Thanks Matt. Happy new year to you guys. We’re heading to fernie for our first trip in a couple days. Hope to be in Revy soon. Keep rippin and ride safe.
What was going on with your clutch? Did you figure it out? And we just started getting snow deep enough now lol cant wait to ride and put my Muskoka freerider stickers on the sled!!! Love the vids on your good and bad days lol
Man my first day out this year I was blaming every new aftermarket part on my sled, and now getting out on it today for my second time. Even in worse snow I felt a-lot more at home. I did delete my t-motion and go zrp front end spindles, and C&A bx skis, which do make it feel a bit different from last year.
Finally waited a year for some quality vids, living my dream through you. The sounds it was making sounds like the clutch gripping/engaging a little too hard but I am not sure since its just video audio. I know when my friends rebuilt sleds it can be a bit jarring/janky with a lot of new parts breaking in.
Merry Christmas! Also word to the wise about your Summit. I have the exact same sled. Was riding it in fine powdery snow at -8°F. Snow dust made its way under the hood, melted and froze at the bottom of the steering system getting tighter and harder to steer through my ride. Eventually I couldn’t turn left at all, only right. Had to back up and turn like an old RC car. Eventually compressed the front suspension and heard a bang. Right tie rod broke. Both boots shredded. left it overnight and it was frozen solid and could turn the bars. 12 hours later in a heated garage and the hood off it’s still frozen. I though the Gen 5 was supposed to not have intrusion issues as they got rid of the front venting. Huge design flaw. What’s going to happen to everyone who goes west for a week, rides fine powder in the super cold and leaves their sleds outside by the cabin? Hope this was an anomaly. Cheers and Feliz Navi da.
Sorry for the black screen in the video from 19:15-19:26
Anyword on what the secondary noise was? Heard it on a few 23s now
Sounds like belt slip to me
My sled made that noise when the secondary rollers were broken. I wonder if maybe something was stuck and then freed up over the course of the day??
Appreciate you sharing the ups and downs throughout the day. For those of us that ride; we identify. For those that are new it provides a great perspective on the sport and what to expect.
I try to share it all. It’s all about the adventure, not just the highlight reel
Best Christmas gift is a new upload from Matt! Hope you have a great season dude. I look forward to Al the killer content that’s to come

100% the best way to describe it
Been watching for about 3 years now never missed one yet! Love the videos muskoka keep ‘em rollin!
It's good to see the older style filming with the commentary. Just riding, no jumps, flips, just riding . LOVED It!!!
Some days we do this others we show the action, all depends on the day!
I still can’t believe how much snow those sleds can get through, pretty amazing
Even without the audio, still the best sledding videos to watch anytime! Love yr merch too, wear mine almost everyday.👌
Double check your chain tension in the Chain case. Some of the g5s showing up the chain tension has been super loose causing a grinding noise on take off.
I tightened it and it still did it
I know of 3 gen 5’s with a loose chain case. I have put 4 full turns on mine in the first 200 miles. Might change the oil as well. Mine was straight silver after 200 miles
Why am I getting the impression that Doo rushed these sleds out the door? I'm seeing random problems with the G5's quite frequently now
LETS GO!!!!! Merry Christmas!!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has to knock off the rust at the beginning of the season. Grateful to have the Freerider back!
Ready for the season! I would love to hear your thoughts on the Gen 5 vs. 4 ? Happy holidays to you both 🎉
I’ve heard a lot of people love the new chassis’s compared to the g4, skinnier and more playful
I’ll get more in to it in a future video!
When is the R9 going to be there?
Merry Xmas Matt, Thanks for your mellow disposition when riding and looking at at every thing like its only a first world problem.
Check your secondary if the rollers broke, if they did see if the fett brothers racing rollers are the same for the turbos, there a fiber material instead of a plastic. The stock one break when you hear the clunk when you go from reverse to forward hard

I said this last year when you doo'd fresh deep.
Today I'm skiing!!!
Tomorrow I'll ride.
Anytime in the snow is a magical day.
Happy boxing day!
My wife and inlaws are sick in bed this morning so myself and the little guy got up alone and voila, your videos are back. Perfect Christmas morning.
I was anticipating a x-mas morning video! Perfect!! Absolutely love watching your videos and all the content.
The guy is good to us in so many ways....
I was there yesterday too and had the exact same day. The old tracks weren’t quite covered and mounds of super deep clouds of snow here and there. Impossible to predict what the sled was gunna do. Watching these videos while having my morning dump....life is back to normal. Glad your back for another season.
Yeah, some of his line choices will help push out the morning dump....
First of the season boy
Very smart day to upload first vid, high quality content
New screen looks awesome, sled also seems more punchy… excited for the rest of the season and the daily vlogs… thanks Matt… curious about your first impressions of the gen5..
These are the best snowmobile videos hands down good times with good dudes!
Best snowmobiling chanel out there.
Refreshed my feed like 3 times and yours was still the first vid to pop up👌
Thanks for sharing the struggles! Excited the season is here and looking forward to your impressions of the Gen 5. Merry Christmas!
Let’s go do hyped 3rd year of watching have been waiting for the new mod for ever merry Christmas
Merry Xmas to all

Agreed there. Heard that clutch cover panel on the gen 5 is a complete piece of bleep.
Merry Christmas Matt!! Nice to see you back riding this season. Looking forward to all the great content.
OK I'm not alone! First day we got 3 foot of baseless super fluff and I couldn't ride to save my life! Boy that thing stands right up in the deep stuff, keep up the great work bud.

Early season first rides, deep conditions and shit visibility all make for a good challenge. Good to see you boys back on the sleds 🤘🏾
The Snowmobile Lawn Dart ! NICE !
Awesome first video. I did get out for a ride today but of a very different type. Buffalo NY here. We’ve experienced a disastrous storm for 3 days straight

Yeah I’ve seen a bit from it, looks crazy
Merry Christmas Matt and Chloe! Good to see ya back at it!
Most relatable vid yet!
Welcome back Boss......Nice little present seeing this video. Even getting paid to watch it (double time and a half-holiday pay) because the other boss man has me for the day. Merry Christmas to you and yours.....
So stoked for you, Merry Christmas Matt!

Merry Christmas Matt. First thing I did was check for a video this morning
Favorite sled channel on UA-cam!love the build, how did you find it worked compared to the G4
Need some more seat time before I get in to too much detail
Happy braaapping!
Yeeees! I’ve waited a while for this!!
Merry Christmas.
I have been eagerly anticipating your trip west and the start of another season.
Awesome first video of the new season

So hype to see you back for another season
Our first ride was full of stops. So out of shape and the rust. I don’t feel so bad now. Thanks Matt.
NEW sled content could not make this day any better the new sled sounds mean😈🤌
Totally relatable, important to remember you are on a completely different sled as well, a lot of changes.
Glad you made it out! can't wait for this season's videos!!
What gear are you using this year and why did you go with that?
Those first rides are always a re-learning curve
Accidentally ripped the front end of my artic cat f7 off trying to get it ready for the season😫 . Great start of the season😅
Boy I was waiting for that one, watching your Instagram stories and wondering which morning I was gonna wake up to a video. What a nice Christmas gift!
It's awesome to see u out riding again.... Been waiting for this... Stay safe and keep em coming....
Good to see you back at it. Have a great season!
Hell yeah new sled video. Great job Matt happy holidays. Have a great one. Can't wait to watch all the videos
my favourite sledding youtuber, cannot wait to watch all your great videos, merry christmas and a happy new year🤙🏻🤙🏻

I was exhausted just watching, wow.
Great video - I was leaning with you in my chair when you were going through the trees in the first half, lol.
I think the sound is just the track not being quite tight enough, under load it skips a notch or two before hooking
Rust, in Alaska it was always the third day when I would come around, same day my thumb muscles got in shape and stopped hurting also. Wish we had finger throttles back then.
He's back!! Ready for another winter🔥
Merry Christmas buddy another great start to the season.
Not a bad first ride. I can’t wait to see the rest of the year.
Good to see the new setup out on the snow!!! You get it figured out!!
Muskoka is back for another season! Let’s gooooo!
It looks like your sled is acting a little heavy on the skis and diving a bit. My first day out on my expert 165 it was handling the same, felt like I forgot how to ride all of a sudden. Merry Christmas Matt! Excited for the new season!
Merry Christmas really appreciate the video you did an amazing job on the wrap and I hope your sled doesn't have any further noises/issues.
Merry Christmas and stoked the vids are going again!
Merry Christmas to you too. Awesome first ride
I'll be at the cottage on Kawagama tomorrow. I can't wait for all the snow!!!
Seeing you guys struggle definitely make me feel better about how bad I did last week haha.
That’s just how it goes some days haha
Great Xmas present. Thanks Matt. Happy new year to you guys. We’re heading to fernie for our first trip in a couple days. Hope to be in Revy soon. Keep rippin and ride safe.
No problem on the GoPro and what not.
Merry Christmas! So glad you’re back!
i wonder if that clutch noise isn't from a brand new belt grabbing hard on the primary and causing the belt to chatter.
Awesome job. Glad ur back
It’s All in the Hips ! Steering !
Thanks for the Christmas video!!! It’s been a long summer!
Merry Christmas.........big day for your first time out.
It's good to see you finally made it. Love watching your videos daily. Excited to see you ride the boost
Nice first season ride man. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Christmas! Welcome back! Appreciate that everyone is a bit rusty on the first ride!
Merry Christmas,, glad your back,,, looking forward to Jerry!!!!!
What was going on with your clutch? Did you figure it out? And we just started getting snow deep enough now lol cant wait to ride and put my Muskoka freerider stickers on the sled!!! Love the vids on your good and bad days lol
Didn’t figure it out. Thanks!
Chain tension would be my only thought on the noise, crazy skidoo hasn't gone to a belt drive yet!
Best Christmas present
Check your chain case tension, my g5 straight from the dealer made the same noise and that was the issue
Glad to see it’s finally starting to snow there. We went first week of December was a struggle to find untracked snow
Yeah been a slow start for sure
Finally waited a year for some quality vids, living my dream through you. I have this issue with every one of my ski doos. It’s a huge pain
@@MuskokaFreerider how do you address it if it’s outside overnight?
