Some other videos suggest to not use grease on the gears as it will fly off and could dirty up the stator. Instead light oil is what is suggested. Anyone know what is called for by the factory?
Great video - thanks! One question: Should you/should you NOT lube the axle ends of the bendix? I mean, does the bendix axle rotate inside the bushings?
Yes, absolutely put soem not tacky lube in the bushing abnd bendix mating surface. And use after market bronze bushings that come with a tool to install them. The bronze will last the life of the start.
My KTM 450 exc 2009 is having starting issues so I test the battery and I’m getting 12.95 V fully charged. Could that be one of the reason why it’s having theses issues ?
Do not used the stock bushing but use after market bronze bushings (come with a driver for installation) which should last the life of the starter. Be careful using a drill bit because if the bushing rotates too much or too fast it will gouge or remove some aluminum from the housing and then a new bushing will not fit snug enough!
Really an excellent video. I'm doing a full rebuild on my TX300 and never even considered the Bendix bushings. I'll order 'em up! Thanks.

how about the 4 stroke? mine makes similar sound
Can you tell bushing part # for XCW300 2017 please?
Part #55140030100
Never use the KTM bushings. Use after market bronze bushings that come with an installation tool. Bronze will out live the starter typically.
