You're not alone. Trackmaster broke my heart and wallet. Wooden Railway was too rare. And we never speak about ERTL. But Take-Along? That is my pride and joy.
Trackmaster is quite inexpensive if you know where to look. About wooden railway; It’s frustrating and expensive… almost impossible to get into if you’re broke… it’s not worth it.
Track master: the battery’s bother me Wooden railway: my favorite in my opinion ERTL: 3rd favorite. It’s fragile but I like the designs Take along: my 2nd favorite. They look cool
I really agree! Take Along is absolutely amazing I grew up with it and absolutely enjoyed it and I’m glad a bunch of other people feel the same way about Take Along like I do You’ve earned a subscriber lol
The Take Along/Early Take & Play range we’re definitely my favourite Thomas toys as a kid. The Ertl is cool but the constant inconsistencies when it came to proportions, stickers and the coupling system just threw me off. And while the Playrail/Tomy/Trackmaster Toys I also loved as a kid, once again the proportions always threw me off and they weren’t exactly portable. But Take Along never had any of those problems! They were cheaper, better proportioned, looked good, they came with little cards which showed of the actual character, Thomas had lining on his back which I loved, they had many characters and they were portable! I remember on family holidays that used to have my rucksack filled to the brim with Take Alongs (with another pocket filled with Doctor Who figures) with the constant noise of metal clanking together when I walked (and the weight). I remember one time in a hotel where I met a random boy who also had Take Alongs and we played all afternoon! The only problem when it came to Take Along, for me at least, was the rolling stock. Obviously being a product of the Hit Era, the rolling stock toys were mainly very ‘kiddie’ and not that realistic. There were no red or green, express coaches, no red or orange branch line coaches, no Henrietta or Scruffy, no troublesome vans or tankers and no proper Break Vans either. Only American styled cabooses which never made sense to me. Everything else stuck close to the shows models so why change the grey brake vans to red cabooses? The only rolling stock Take Alongs I wanted to play with were Annie & Clarabel, some tankers, Troublesome Trucks and the Breakdown Train which I loved! It might of been my favourite Take Along toy because of all the detail on it, the flatbed and it’s magnet. It became it’s own character despite not having a face, like a TUGs character. So basically...I too loved the Take Along... And I too am a virgin and will die alone
Here's my top 10 Thomas & Friends ranges: TOMY/Trackmaster/Motorized. I only got into these ranges in 2015 because I got into because of DieselD199, Ramahfool, Maddalonefarms and Trackmaniamatt. ERTL/Nakayoshi. I'm ranking these two lines together because both are highly detailed and BigEngines87 uses them. Take Along/Take-'N'-Play/Adventures/Push Along. I grew up with the Take Along and early Take-'N'-Play items. But, I don't hold them very high because over half of the line went down hill and the two later versions of the line are not very good. Wooden Railway. It's good and the lead paint era ones have a unique flavor.
10/10 video. I have never laughed so hard or so often during a thomas discussion/essay video. Not only that but you have solid reasoning to back up your points, and you don't drag the video any longer than it needs to be. Editing is spot on and matches pacing. There are VERY few thomas youtubers who know how to do even one of these things, let alone all 4. If you return to content creation similar to this style of video you WILL get many subscribers as the t&f youtube scene desperately needs something like this. Thank you for this video.
Take Along was my first Thomas range, and I love it! I do like the Ertl and Wooden engines even though I never had Ertl. But Take Along Thomas (and Bob the Builder too) was the best
Hey dude, great video! I loved the comedy! And you made a really great point about how underrated these are. The Take Along series has always been my favorite for how accurately they represent the show's models, and it felt like they put so much care into each one. Obviously that went and faded over time, but I'm glad someone other than me feels the same! I'll always remember all my beautiful die-cast toys...despite their eerie lack of eyebrows due to fading. XD
@@zackanderson7440i cant even get a proper job (like mcdonalds) legally yet, plus im autistic which means i might not be hyperfixated on thomas in time for my birthday
I'm still collecting merch from the past 30 years (1992-Now) Even this one, the take along range, this range started 20 years ago and was "cancelled" 13 years ago, I am still collecting them/these
I agree in my opinion take along is the best, cuz it represents the characters, models, and everything in-between not to mention that it is extremely collectible! I love all ranges (except for uncolored Thomas wood and push along) but take along just stands out to me and lets be real here, take along has the best scaling.
I literally never understood the take-along debate. All these toy lines are awesome in their own way. No need to debate whether they are better because of nostalgia.
I really love Take Along, I grew up on this Thomas merchandise line and I have been collecting Diecasts ever since I was younger. It is childhood Nostalgia for me and it's a shame that it gets overshadowed by bigger/newer merch ranges.
Fantastic video! It did get a chuckle or two out of me as well. Growing up, I was a Wooden Railway kid but a few Take Along engines sprinkled amongst my collection. However, the older I've gotten, the more Take Along pieces I've obtained. It's needless to say that the Take Along range does the best job at representing the characters from the television series. Whilst I adore the Wooden Railway and ERTL lines of toys, as far as Thomas merchandise goes, Take Along had it's obvious strengths compared to all other Thomas merchandise lines. However, unlike Wooden Railway, you couldn't really create much of a "world" from the system. There weren't an avid amount of destination pieces and track to collect. Sure, there were a few playsets released, but compared to the Wooden Railway, wasn't much to work with if you wanted to build your own Island of Sodor. Sadly, the Take Along line seems to have fallen into obscurity these days. But lucky for us fans, we'll always remember it quite fondly. Once again, great video!
As someone who grew up playing with both lines, I personally prefer Take-Along/Take N' Play over ERTL. Take-Along has the engines better proportioned with each other, the tender engines have detachable tenders, and best of all, they have the smart magnets that can connect either way. They might not have been as detailed as the ERTL models were, but they're still much more accurate to their TV series counterparts than today's Thomas merchandise lines.
trackmaster and take along will always be my 2 favorites since I grew up having these 2 ranges mostly as a kid. and yeah I did have WR and some misc Merch but overall it was these 2. and yeah take along is underrated.
I can see why trackmaster has a weird shape but that’s so it can fit the motor and engine but there’s NO reason except for it being hard to make detail on wood so wooden railway should not look like that. Also I love take n play it’s soooooo underrated
A great range but only one thing I don’t like about take along is that the tender engines tenders are treated like rolling stock and the tender engines are treated like tank engines with buffers in the back
Take along is the most realistic toy range honestly because of the wheel arrangements its very accurate but that's adventures ruined it for its coupling system and compatibility with wooden and older take alongs are excellent
I have a question I remember this one episode where James and Thomas try to get Percy to the moon with a drone I wanna know where that episode is and what is it’s actual name
i both love and hate DeAgostini tbh Sometimes, they model the characters surprisingly accurate but other times... *they pull a De Agostini Arry and Bert*
Take Along/Take N Play was a good toyline, I wish Mattel never discontinued it. But anyways Mattel ruined the Thomas The Tank Engine merchandise. 2009 - 2012 will always be my favorite era of Take N Play.

It's not just a merch range, but it's the best one
also: thanks for the Megaman X music 👍

I would love to work on a Take Along video. They came out after ERTL ended. In the U.K. ERTL ended in 2004, while the U.S. ended in 2001.
Seeing the take along engines so close to your TV scares me
This video is why I love UA-cam
i prefer collecting the old trakmaster stuff and i would only get take along for the narrow gauge engines cuz they scale well with trackmasters
Take Along are the Toys most Detailed of Thomas and Friends
I agree with everything said in this video. especially for trw I just dont care that much for simplicity
