You are so correct about listening twice. At first listen I wondered if I wasted my money,but, on a road trip I gave it another listen. needless to say it is now one of my favorites. Yes,truly a listening adventure.
Great and very interesting tune, love the harmonies and Elton's voice, it's familiar, but a new style by Elton. What I heard so far I think, The Diving Board will be maybe one of his best records ever. Can't wait :)
O.K. it´s a special Album. A little bit Lestat and some accords from the 70th and 80th. You must hear the album twice before you can make a judgement. It´s not only Pop (popular) it´s classic pop but more classic. Best songs for me are 1. My Quicksand, 2. The Ballad of Blind Tom, 3. Mexican Vacation and 4. Oscar Wilde gets out. Hear "The Diving Board" not as a music album, hear it like you see a movie. AND IT IS A GREAT MOVIE FOR MY EARES. THANKS ELTON!
I absolutely agree that it is a fantastic, adult, grown album! But not during the first, even the second listening. I expected nothing else but a great album :) My favs are Oceans away (the most touching song I've heard for years!), Take this dirty water and Can't stay alone tonight, but also like The ballad of blind Tom, My quicksand, New fever walts, Mexican vacation and of course Home Again. Those "dreams" are fantastic. Generally it is a brilliant CD! :)
Voyeur sound like Rocket Man. I like all songs on this album but my favorites are specials. Sounds that I never heard before from Elton and very special harmonies.
It's funny,I loved the album,but the songs you mention would be my lower picks.I think Voyeur,Take This Dirty Water and The Diving Board are some of the best songs he has ever done.Town Called Jubilee also.
There doesn't seem much consensus on the best or worst songs on the album- for me it's strong throughout, but the title track is sublime. Even that isn't for everyone.
Well,his voice does sound great in this.But I don't know,so far I don't love the new songs.Yes,Home Again's chorus is magnificent,Mexican Vacation is kind of fun,and this song is quite mediocre in my opinion.I was incredibly excited about the Diving Board but it's let me down so far.Still,I'm happy Elton is making the music that he wants.
I heard the whole album, my opinion it is really boring. there are two really7 good songs. It is not nearly as good as The Union which is Eltons best work.

You´re right. Every time when I hear the album I find more special in the Songs. Diving Board is really a good end from a great album.
