  • The obvious thing to do when shooting a lightbulb is to switch it on and try to expose for the light source... but we're on a mission to do something different!
In this shoot, we're using the curved glass surfaces for some abstract and colorful reflections!

A few mirrors with several Adaptalux arms aimed at it behind a posed subject could make for some spectacular bokeh.

Even some crumpled tinfoil would do the trick to create bokeh, we have done that a few times to create effects in the background of a shot.

Great concept and exercise. As you demonstrated your approach, I was thinking about attaching some wires to the bulb (in an unseen manner) from a ac or dc variable power supply. Just raise the voltage enough to begin illuminating the filaments in the lamp at a low level to add more effect from the filaments themselves rather than being dead.

That would be really cool for sure, especially if you can keep them hidden! It would look like the bulb is just glowing on it's own!

Nice one Ben! Gave me a few 'Lightbulb Moments' that did! #GROAN! I've had an idea for a shoot. What about fruit? I think you might've already done it though? I'm thinking maybe macro shots of Rasberries, Strawberries or Kiwi Fruit maybe? As I say, you might have already done it. Just an idea. 😊😊

I've done slices of fruit, and Kiwi under UV, but maybe it's time to do some little berries like you suggest. Raspberries and strawberries would look very cool close up!
